But......I don't think he was "gloating". And based on some of your posts, it seems to me your sippin the haterade too much on people buying the Xoom at $799.

I can see you on the freeway, rolling down your window next to a BMW and saying you're stupid for buying that car! And the person in the BMW thinking...WTF did I do to him??? haha.

And please don't think that I'm hating on you for hating on the Xoom buyers but it's just my observation.

Let's take a step back and realize people want this at $799. No need to be rude.
 
These tablets could really change the MMO scene. Most MMO don't require much to run on the low end. This could really mean playing your favorite MMO on the go, and that is super exciting!
 
Just sold my NookColor on eBay, come here baby Xoom! I am buying the 3G as a hedge against technology. Never know when I might need 4G.

Actually doing Honeycomb on my Nook got me wanting the Xoom even more.

Seems unlikely... I mean, in World of Warcraft, you have to have four directional buttons, plus 10 - 20 hotkeys for different abilities/different levels of abilities.

Pocket legends while not a port of a PC title MMO has full 3D movement. I think we the size of tablets we could see a more "stream lined" interface to accomidate the space. Just like browsing isn't fully PC like I wouldn't expect to get the full bang of playing your favorite MMO on PC, but I think you can get it to a playable status.

How much did you sell your Nook for? I just bought one yesterday because I was board and wanted to play with something. I'm rooting today. I do love all the magazines you can get with the Nook. I hope the Xoom will do somthing very similer.

$300 for Nook, case & 16GB Sandisk. Bought it now.
 
To all of you who in your Android fanboy frenzy who have constantly insisted that the IPad pricing has nothing to do with Xoom pricing; Motorola Exec Sanjay Jha as quoted by the WSJ:

"The price is set by iPad at $599 and we will be right around there.”

“We felt that our ability to deliver 50Mb/s would justify the $799 price point. It is 32GB with 3G and a free upgrade to 4G. Being competitive with iPad is important.”

I will be getting a wifi only Xoom myself, so no, I am not an Apple fanboy (the only apple product I own is a touch that was a gift). I am just tired of hearing fanaticism based on opinion and not solid business sense. IPad rules the market with a well established head start and new hardware soon. They have name and product recognition. Everyone else is playing catch up. Other than our enthusiast groups, a tablet is a tablet to most consumers. And price is king!

Oh, and I said earlier that the early adopters would be paying subscription fees to Verizon and was told "no that is not the case." Well...if you want to use wifi on your 3G you'll be forking over one month and an activation fee :rolleyes: They didn't partner just for the fun of it...profit is the motivation, but crippling wifi and demanding a ransom is pretty shady for Verizon and doesn't speak well for Moto to let them taint their own PR machine by allowing it.

Who said this o_O? I don't think anyone made claim that the price point apple has created had nothing to influence the Xooms. People have said they don't need to lower there price to be competitive with apple. Seems like Sanji agrees. They need put quality products out there, and price accordingly. Apple set the bench mark, and other companies are following that. I didn't see anyone say otherwise in this thread.
 
melantus, it is a generalized comment thrown out for the spirit of conversation. On this forum and others people have said that the xoom price should not be contingent on the ipad price because the Xoom is more machine and better (for now, we don't know what the IPad 2 will be). While I agree it is a better device (at least for my own wants and needs) price, as we have all seen in the recent outpouring of negative articles about Xoom's price plus one month sub plus activation fee, can make or break any consumer device aimed at the masses for consumption. I DO think at $600 for the wifi only, Moto has made the right choice and will sell tablets. I DON'T think a 3 or 4G radio is worth an additional $200 plus Verizon fees. Not to mention if you want to use that radio we are talking an additional $240/year minimum.
$600 wifi only and teathering my phone for no additional cost...priceless :)
 
Well the fee has always been there. Call them now and ask if you need pay an activation fee and at least one month for a galaxy tab. They well tell you yes, this has been standard practice at Verizon. It's getting heavy press now because a high profile device is coming soon.

I'd agree 200 dollars for a 3g/4G radio is a bit much. Since a wifi to 3G iPad is 130 swing. The fact too though is someones going have physically do the work for this change to happen so maybe thats why this cost more. I'm sure Verizon nor Moto wants to eat that cost so they pawn it off on consumors lol.

No. It's going to be a software update, nothing more.

First of all, he said "around $600" for the WiFi version. It could very well be 639, 629, etc. So, don't assume $600.

But more importantly, the Xoom has a first-generation CDMA/LTE chipset inside. As with all pieces of new technology, the manufacturing costs are naturally high out of the gate. So, of course, it'll cost more than just a vanilla CDMA radio.

And I think even the biggest Android fanboy can't deny that Ipad rules the tablet market. I never like the pricing for the 3G Xoom but I understood why it was priced that way. Not only is Moto basing their price on the Ipad but also Samsung Galaxy tab. I think Apple and Samsung f'd up the tablet pricing curve.
 
How does $599 w/ a two year contract sound? I think this will be one of the options when purchasing through VZW.

I could be wrong, but am pretty sure we will see this announced soon...:D

This right here is flat out greedy and WRONG. I can't believe they have the unmitigated audacity to charge consumers (who are paying a nice chunk of change for the Xoom) to unlock the WiFi option when that is ALREADY part of the device. Verizon can goto HELL as far as I am concerned. This is why I will not pay for the $800 unit. This is as Shady as you can get. They are basically telling all those who are going to fork over $800 to grab their ankles and enjoy what's about to happen. The only way that won't be allowed to get away with this type of greedy business tactic is if enough people give Verizon the Middle Finger and say I will wait for the WiFi only Xoom. After the iPad2 releases, we can expect at least $100 to be shaved off the initial price (especially if Apple has another entry level iPad 2 for $499). I have a feeling that the $800 Xoom is not going to sell well at all and may well go the way of Samsung's Galaxy Tab.
