[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

Chewedpup -
There is a fix for the Yahoo - but I can't remember it off hand.
Just download the Yahoo mail and Yahoo IM Apps of the Market...work Flawlessly

Yeah, +1 on the Yahoo Mail app. I tried setup Yahoo Mail for a friend on her Verizon Samsung Fascinate and it would not work either.

I ended up just downloading the Yahoo Mail app for her and it worked like a charm. Give it a try.

Version 2.3.6.1 is the latest release, SUPERUSER

I tried every combination of superuser, SU, super user, permission, etc. Could not find what looked to be the correct app in the market. When I open SU, it says it is up to date, it is v2.3.6, with v2.3.1-ef binary. Is that the most recent build?
Thanks!

Well I didn't do a full wipe, simply wiped Cache and Davlik and flashed over the previous version, I did not get anymore Internal Memory, still at around the same 32 MB's, I would do a full wipe if I was assured it would make the difference but from I have read a few have done so and did not make a difference. Other than that this Rom Rocks!!!, Love to lockscreen option, I kinda like the AOSP mixed in with CM7 and options, makes it a nice little touch

Haha. Lots of battery drain questions lately. :D

Actually, this raises a quick question that I have. If I wipe battery stats for a ROM and then calibrate, Nandroid, and flash to a different ROM, then some time later restore my original Nandroid from above, are the battery stats preserved? I guess what I mean is, can I calibrate battery stats on each ROM independently and have those stats restored in their respective Nandroids? I am assuming yes because the stats are part of whatever is restored in the Nandroid and are not global for all ROMs, but I figured I would ask anyway. :)

That raises a good question and I'm not totally sure but I feel, once the phone is wiped from restoring a nandroid, then those battery stats will be reset and you will have to calibrate the battery again, imo;)

Can someone tells me how exactly to update the SU app?

Also, I really liked the popular 2.2 theme for CM6. Is there anything like that for CM7?

Hmm, I guess I need to research it more. I appreciate your answer though and your private message replying to this question as well. :)

I would have thought that the battery stats would be kept along for the ride in what files the Nandroid backs up, but maybe not. Do you tend to recalibrate your battery stats every time you flash a new ROM or restore a Nandroid, andygu3?

I know I saw that reading over at XDA but i will wait until they get a better GPS fix then I will wipe all then., I got the dreaded GPS reboot for the first time

Don -
Memory issue is fixed with a full wipe.....

Interesting - My GPS is Locked in and Running Great.
Try running the sprint nav apk once.
That has fixed it for a few

Initially, the problem was solved. Thanks to aqualls on the http://forum.xda-developers.com/ website (thread url is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11558196&posted=1#post1155819), who suggested:

Step 1. Are you setting up manually or automatically. I've always had better luck setting up manually. If so you have to make servers say:

Smtp.mail.yahoo.com
IMAP.mail.yahoo.com

I tried it and it worked IMMEDIATELY!!!!
Thanks Aqualls.

Unfortunately, this method somehow stopped working yesterday - I just kept getting "incorrect username or password", even though it HAD been working before.... and DonB pointed me in the right direction (what WOULD we do without him? ) - xda forum to the rescue again - and here is the fix for those wanting yahoo on their phones.
Steaminloaf from xda developers posted a thread:

This method is no longer working... says "setup could not finish, Username or password incorrect. ()"

found out the port changed...

SO...... STEP 2
# Incoming Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
# Outgoing Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
# Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
# Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL)

This seemed to work just fine now - hopefully the ports won't change again

Thanks everyone

Is there a way to get the battery percentage in the icon in the notification bar like in cm6? I've looked in all the settings and feel like I've missed something.

I am sure the exchange app will do that

Thanks for the suggestion - I have tried it (the full yahoo app), and as I said, I know it works like a charm, but that's not what I want. I want to be able to have the email shortcuts working like the gmail does, as it did when I had the unrooted phone, and also when I had it after I first rooted to Froyo 9.9.2. I don't understand how it worked so well on those two systems and doesn't work on gingerbread. I just don't like having full access to my yahoo email right on my phone like that - I know it works, but that's not what I need. I want to click on a shortcut and boom, I'm in my yahoo account number 1, and press on another shortcut and boom, I'm in my other yahoo account. Just like I do with gmail. So I'm still open to suggestions!!!! Thank you anyway.

I am glad you got it figured out. I only suggested the Yahoo Mail app because it was really as simple as signing in and boom, you are setup.

I use the regular email client for my email as well. I do not use a dedicated app. It requires a bit more setup, but it works well for me. Cheers.

Yep exactly what I thought that the exchange program would work, it does work auto as I just tried it but must be different on some phones I guess, and yes a manual set up usually will do the trick, glad you got it going, K9mail is another app you can use to do the same with

Every time I try to download an update it stops around 80% and says download unsuccessful. Any suggestions?

I'm using my phone btw.

Firstly, thanks DonB for talking me through the rooting process.

I have just rooted my phone to Gingerbread, and I just LOVE it. I was able to set up the gmail accounts easily, so I have two separate gmail "labels" on my phone, each one for a different gmail account. I still cannot get the message count to show up on my notification bar, however, but that's not the reason for this post.
I am trying to do the same thing for my yahoo accounts (I have two of them). Yes, I can download the yahoo widget/app and that puts yahoo pretty much live on my phone - but I'm not looking for that. I'm looking for the shortcuts, like Gmail, so I can click on them and it takes me to a brief list of emails etc. I don't want to have full access to yahoo on my phone, but just the shortcuts.

When I try to set it up, this is what I do:
1) put a shortcut to the Email icon on my screen and name it.
2) When I try to configure it, I put my yahoo user name (xxx at yahoo.com) in and password
3) the message that comes up is "Mailbox access is not supported for some times of yahoo mail accounts" etc. I click on OK
4) it tells me setup could not finish as there is an incorrect username or password. I am 10000% certain I enter the correct name and password.
5) if I try a different yahoo email account, I get the same error message, plus (530 Access Denied: need SMTP privileges to access this server).

I used to have yahoo email shortcuts on my phone before I rooted - and they were great. I had two icons, and the message count showed up in my notification bar. When I rooted first (to I guess AOSP 9.9.2, before gingerbread), I could get the yahoo mail icons to work, no problem. I was not able to add an account in the "accounts and sync" - that only offers me "google" or "corporate" (which I guess is exchange). It's only with gingerbread i am having this problem.

I am VERY basic when it comes to using the phone, so if anyone responds, please pretend I'm about four years old, so please explain in basic language what I need to do. Anything complicated, and I might not follow (sorry). Still a newbie.

Thank you everyone.

I don't use Yahoo, but see what you are talking about. There is no POP3 account type in accounts and sync. However, if you go to add an account within the email client you can get that option. Enter email address and password, then select manual setup. You can then choose pop3.

A better option IMHO, is to pull all your accounts into Gmail. Then you can manage them with labels. One address book to maintain. Gmail has best in class spam filtering also.

Im having a problem where ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5 hangs when I try to do a nandroid backup. So, Im going back to 2.5.0.7 or whatever that last one was.

Yes I noticed the updated recovery hangs on a few different things. First time I booted it took about 10 second or so for the text to show up and I just wiped my battery stats and that took a good 20 seconds for it to wipe. Also on my first boot I done a full wipe like I usually do with a new build, and it took a good bit more time on initiating the wipes and then on a few it said out was finished and the orange text took a few seconds to come back. It's not like those few seconds are that precious to me, it just usually has me freaking out for a second thinking OH MY GOD I DONE SOMETHING WRONG!!! or being in the middle of my wipes and recovery is just going to completely crap out on me with all my data wiped and nothing flashed. But that's just me on a good day. self doubt sucks lol
