Gamefly: Is it a good deal?

lol Gamefly I signed up for them like back in 2005 and when I got my first game I played it and didn't return it as I was to lazy to even send it back with the paid postage :P they charged me $59.99 for the game. So just remember to send it back ASAP as they will send you next one in list.

hahahaha i ll remember that... although based on my history with netflix and movies i never sent back in college i might have to reconsider.

I think GameFly is pretty sweet. If I like the game enough I'll buy it but I'd rather be able to try them out for cheap first to see if it's even worth the $$ ya know. You can get a $15 rebate when you sign up for a membership here .... GameFly Deal

I use GameFly too. I forgot to return a game once too. I couldn't find it for the longest time then I finally did like months later.

lol I am talking way back when they use to send notice I remember they sending me 2 letters saying if its not returned ill be charged. Matter of fact I know exactly where the game is as its in very same place where it was when I took it out of PS2, its still there :P what a waste $59.99 could have bought some beer now.

They don't charge you for the game anymore. They got sued for that. As long as your subscription is active, you can hold onto the game for however long you desire.

It all depends on your location, honestly. The turn around times for games is a bit long and majority of the time you won't get the game in your top 5 picks although they say they send out 90% of them (it's bullshit). I've actually just cancelled my account again for the 4th time lol.

When I saw the deal JBCB posted and the $15 off any subscription, I was pretty much sold since it would almost give me 2 months for free... but if the don't send you the games you want then that sucks :( I guess i'll give it a try. I can always cancel

I could've referred you and you would've got it for $7.95 for the first month. Although $15 off any subscription is a darn good deal considering the min sub is for $15.95

That's a pretty cool thread... this deal seems like it makes it worth it for at least a couple of months. Do you know if it is a pain to cancel the service if you don't want to pay monthly anymore?

I canceled it is a huge rip off after the 7.95 a month deal.

Takes 3-4 days to receive a game and 3-4 days for them to send it out so if you rent 2 games a month then you get to play about 2 weeks out of the month while the other 2 weeks are transit/queue.

On your first rental they normally send out your first queue - after that they won't send you anything that has "low" availability which is about half of the good games.

As for gamefly dollars and buying used - I wasn't able to purchase 1 game because they were all in such poor condition.

In fact I had to return one because it was unreadable.

So it is nice for the first month or two with the 7.95 deal and they send you want you want initially - all down hill from there.

I've had it on and off for about 3 years now. It's pretty long wait to get the latest and greatest. If you have patience it can be worth it. It all depends on where you live and how far away you are from the center. I live in texas and the center is in austin and i live in houston, it can take about a week to get a new game after sending one in. The que levels have always seemed kinda bogus to me anything less than High or Now availability is pretty much never shipped to me.

It's a good deal but don't expect to be playing new great games as they come out.

I liked gamefly as long as I could afford the 2 game at a time plan. It suck with the 1 only because you are a day or 2 to get there, 1 or 2 for processing, another day or 2 just because, and then finally a day or 2 to get to you.

I used it more a testing ground to see if I wanted to buy them. That was pretty handy.

I tried it for a while. I simply don't have the time to play through enough games to make it worth it for me. I'd rather just buy them used 6-12 months after release and have plenty of time to play through them. If you are the type to jump from game to game, or just play a ton of games (believe me, I was there in my late teens LOL), then gamefly is the perfect service.

Thanks a lot for the deal... this will make for a great present idea for my boyfriend. I don't really know much about video games but I heard him talk about Need for Speed, Tiger Woods and Red Dead Redemption. Which one should I rent first??

At the bare minimum, Bananas78, CandyKane, and CandyApple are spam.

Heads up everyone - gamefly is a huge rip off. Buyer beware.

They don't have customer service and turnover time is 1-2 weeks.

Just google "gamefly rip off" or the like and you'll see many horror stories.
