Do you feel you lose any voice quality on serendipity? The loss of the audience chip (or something like that) is something I've heard can be a problem..

Not at all. Trust me, if this were an issue it would be all over the Serendipity xda thread. The boring thing about Serendipity is that it's so good that wish lists have nothing "meaty" on them.

I had a first generation Captivate, always powered off. I have a refurbished one, 1007 build, rooted, flashed Paragon RC6. Runs like a cheetah, no powering off.

Samsung is already way past Froyo with the new phones coming out. So I don't think they care how this bandaid operates. I am happy I rooted and flashed about 2 months ago. I will not even think about trying out their "authentic" version.

I would say do it. My captivate was working perfectly before the update. I didnt have much lag, and GPS was good. Did the upgrade, it still works great and the little lag I experienced with 2.1 (when dialing from contacts) has disappeared. I'm still testing the battery. I disconnected at full this morning (2 hrs ago) and its now at 99. Sent a few txt and checked FB twice.

Agree. They're interested in the tactical nature of the "sale," not the strategic nature of customer retention. Not only with the Captivate, but with my Samsung monitors and TV.
Bye, Samsung. Future purchases will be from a company that gives a sh*t about support after the sale.

Absolutely. Tactical versus strategic. I will boycott all Samsung products, not just the smartphones.
I updated to 2.2 yesterday from 2.1 (rooted). Last night, I was able to get 2.2 rooted using SuperOneClick:

Yes Captivate is back on top! The universe is back in harmony.I agree and I even have had TWO defective Captivates.
AT&T has been nice to me in at least trying to get my defects worked out, so I'll just keep going back and forth till the problem is fixed.
I guess I've had very low reliability expectations of most new technology. So, if I can find a way to work around a problem, thats good enough for me.

When i got my phone with 2.1 i had no problems what so ever with it was super fast with no lag, i never had any of the common problem like random shut off or slow gps, to me it was an amazing phone.
So when 2.2 came out i figured hey if 2.1 was awesome this will be even better........... but i was wrong for me 2.2 is worse, I now have some lag which i never had before. For instance when i sending a text and i hit home the keyboard stays open for about a second or 2 when one 2.1 it used to go away right away, the touch screen seems less responsive at some points, and also it gave me the old android market place that introduce with 2.1 i dont have the new updated one that i did have.
And for some reason now when ever im downloading apps from the market place the phone will sometimes vibrate 3 times and then market will crash and ask me to force close it does this about 4/10 times.
Has anyone else run into these issues? Are custom roms more reliable? cause if so i may just root and flash i like the way paragon c6 looks

Agree loving mine even more now. Also haven't read much about it but I like the two new "home pages" of desk and car. Now the Captivate can sit on my desk with clock, weather etc right there. and the car setting gives me what I need for that too..prety cool.
The only app that had issues was quick office and the app actually worked, just the icon is hosed up. Can't seem to fix it and it is no longer in the market as a free download.
By the way somehow my Captivate started doing screen capture shots, but I have no idea what I did to make that happen. Anyone have any ideas?

I was one of the lucky ones with a great Captivate out of the box. No GPS issues. No lags that weren't introduced by apps I was using, etc.
I use my BT Headset a lot. I *loved* Voice Commands on my prior WinMo device. That is still the only thing that the Android OS has not even come close to. I could activate VC with my BT and say "Call Jane Doe" and it would do so.
So today, I was trying to see if I could activate the Voice Search on the phone through my BT Headset...While it couldn't activate the Call so and so feature, I was able to accidentally RE-dial my last call, which is what happens when you double-click the BT activate button on the headset. So I'm hopeful that this means I'll have some form of Voice Commands (or Voice "Actions") that will work eventually.
It's faster overall and at boot up and I love being able to move apps to SD, although most of my apps don't support that feature.
Haven't tested GPS yet. On the agenda for this weekend.

Its a quick update via Kies. Overall, the phone is faster, and I think the GPS is locking faster than ever. I recommend you upgrade it.

I say upgrade, why not? I did it yesterday and I have no problems. Most of the changes though are not HUGE. Gmail is one big difference. Menus look a little different.
