Help My screen is stuck on landscape- now what?

All the sudden my EVO's screen is stuck on landscape mode. I have auto-rotate checked in the settings, I did a battery pull and still no luck. If I turn off auto-rotate it goes back to portrait.

Ugh....Factory reset time??? :( :(

The most common thing to start with is a g-sensor calibration. I forget where exactly the option is, though, and I don't have my phone with me at the moment. I think it's somewhere under menu->settings->display. Start with that, and see if it helps.

That's what I did (calibrated it) and then after I did it, it was stuck on landscape. I tried doing it again but no luck. I've done a 60 sec battery pull and a 5 min battery pull with no luck.

That's definitely strange. The only other way I've heard of to fix it is to do a factory reset. You might search xda, though. I'll see if I can find anything else.

Yeah just started the factory reset. I can't believe how fast my phone is now with just the stock HTC Sense. My phone had slowed down considerably. Hopefully after restoring my apps & data from MyBackup Pro, it will continue to be as fast.

*crossing fingers*

Yeah, starting over usually speeds things up a bit. So, I take it that fixed the landscape issue?

YUP! Phone is MUCH MUCH faster - auto-rotate is working. Feels like a fresh new phone - no lag.

Used MyBackup Pro - totally worth it - painless restore. Only thing it really didn

Great - now all the sudden it's stuck in landscape mode again. CRAP. Another factory reset?!!?!? This is frustrating the hell out of me!!!!!!!

Yes-both times it's happened I had just calibrated. Each time I calibrated, the next time I went into landscape mode it stuck there unless I unchecked auto-rotate. Right now I am using the stock htc sense and have not be restored any of my backups. Either way I am not going to calibrate any more.

I would blame hardware before blaming the system, but there are ways to verify. Is your phone rooted or not? I don't remember.

OH my phone is NOT rooted. So far I'm still using the stock UTC sense UI and haven't loaded my data or apps back yet.

Before you ran the calibration, and it got messed up, was it acting up? Is that why you decided to calibrate it in the first place?

No. I was bored and was tinkering around with my phone and saw the calibration setting and opened it and performed the two calibrations. My phone was very slow before this happened - but other than that it wasn't acting up in anyway pertaining to the auto-rotate.

I really don't want to have a lemon. I'm still using the stock HTC Sense UI and am afraid to restore any of my apps or data. There MUST be an app that I recently downloaded or installed that has been causing this - you think?? Because it's working fine on the stock HTC Sense -however, I have NOT done a calibration and I don't want to because I don't want to have to keep doing factory resets. But now thinking about it - maybe I should to see if it does happen with the stock UI - that may answer some questions.....?

Hey thanks for sticking with me on this issue -you're the only one responding and I appreciate that!!!
Jerry :o

What apps have you installed that use the accelerometer? Perhaps check accelerometer usage in spare parts, too.

I have no idea which apps use the accelerometer. I use Launcher Pro Plus, Fancy Widgets, Desktop Visualizer, MyBackup Pro, Folder Organizer, Smart Keyboard Pro, Google apps, TapTalk Pro forum app, Extended controls, iSyncr and iSyncr WiFi, Angry Birds and that's about it.

How would I check "spare parts?" where or what is that??

OK - there's a problem. I just did the calibration again with the stock HTC Sense UI without any of my apps installed or data restored and after doing the calibration once I moved it to landscape it got stuck there again.

So, I have a lemon. I can't believe this. I'm so frustrated.

Hmm, that's definitely not good. You might want to take it in. I do remember seeing this happen to others before, and I don't remember if there was ever solution beyond taking the phone in if a recalibration didn't fix it.

Just called Sprint and told them everything. They said I was still under the 30 day customer satisfaction guarantee so all I have to do is call Order Support tomorrow when they are open and they'll send me a NEW phone NOT a refub.

This sucks tho. Everytime I get a new gadget it's always been a lemon and I've had to replace it. Happened with my Blackberry, Instinct, my computer and now this phone. WHy me!??!:confused:

UGH.

I hope they FedEx it.
