Samsung Media Hub & Froyo

Now that we have froyo, the Media Hub is supposed to be available. Every time I attempt to launch it I get a "Network Timeout" box asking me to retry or OK. I've attempted to open the program several times over the last three days - won't do it. :( I'm on wi-fi.

Anybody know what's going on?

Thanks.

It works fine for me.

Though I am not going to spend $3 on a movie to watch on my phone.

Edit: And that was on my wifi...

It would be cool if the Captivate had HDMI out, my 50 something eyes couldn't deal with watching a movie on a 4" or so screen size

After the Froyo update I ended up with two Media Hub icons. One works and the other gives the coming soon. Anyone else have two icons? Maybe I should just uninstall both.

You can probably uninstall only one and the other is automatic.

I had installed the "Car Home" app from the market before. Now it's part of the rom, so I had two copies. uninstalled the one in the app list and it's just one now.

I'd like to uninstall and then reinstall the Media Hub app, but I don't think that is possible . . . the OEM apps can't be removed without a custom ROM and the Media Hub app isn't available in the Market for reinstallation.

If anyone has a work-around, I'd love to hear it. In attempting to get Media Hub to launch I've gone into Settings:Applications, cleared data and force closed, but I still get the failure to connect indication. :(

I don't know if Media Hub is worth the effort, but I'd like to be able to look at it to check it out.

I ended up using Titanium to freeze the app. At least then it will not launch and no longer shows up in the app drawer. Problem solved.

Hate to ask the obvious, but you do youhave a Samsung Tv or blu-ray connected on wifi, yeah?

Edit: Checked my settings. Nothing earth shattering. Phone name. Wireless router (ssid) name. Nothing else that needs adjusting.

It may not really be worth a lot of extra effort. It allows you to show pictures, videos or music from your phone through you tv or blu-ray. You can't (that I've seen) view apps as they're running.

No, I don't have a Samsung TV or blue-ray on wi-fi, but what has that got to do with using Samsung Media Hub which is a movie or tv show renting/purchasing application. The Samsung website doesn't say anything about needing those other products.

Are we talking about the same application?

That is AllShare not Media Hub. The big problem is that Media Hub loads initially and just sits there.

Mystery solved.

A bit of background. I live in a rural area where I only get Edge service. 3G is available 5 miles away in town. At home I'm always using wi-fi through my satellite internet system.

Apparently the Samsung Media Hub only works on 3G. When I went into town today and tried it on 3G it instantly came up and worked with no problem. I guess this is so the data used during download goes into AT&T's system, so if you're on the 200mb plan over limits could easily happen (I'm on the 2gb plan). So it appears to be set up so that both Samsung and AT&T profit from Media Hub use.

BTW - there really isn't anything there worth having.
