Root Ask question's here (Dont flood the root topic, please)

Im having an issue trying to decide how i want to go about re-rooting my phone. While I was attempting to update to froyo last week i bricked my phone. In order to root the original one i had to do it manually with Z4, and id rather not go through that again. Any suggestions about a better way to root my phone?... BTW i am looking to root so i can install velocity 1.0 and I was able to update to froyo, but had to do it fresh with the new phone

Made the move to update to froyo on my wifes phone last night. Was getting rid of the some of the bloatware, when i came across something called LGDunn Something that seems to run all the time in the background. Anyone know what this is, an is it safe for remove?

Wondering why i have installed 1.0 am using apps to sd majority of the apps are installed to card but yet phone says i only have 6 mb available and i dont even have anything close to number of apps i had installed when i had .4. Anyone throw any assistance my way or tell me what and how i can clean up unnecessary.

Try wiping the Dalvik cache

So I went to xda dl SuperOneclicker 1.6.5(believe this is the most recent version of the program.)

I root my phone using this program, at first glance the phone look rooted but soon as I try to use setcpu or any other root program, the superuser program won't accept any of them, it wouldn't even pull up a notification window asking me to accept/disallow them.

Is there a way to fix it or manually get superuser to accept programs

using a lg ally
2.2.1
VS740MVD.6040.1001-baseband version
2.6.32.9 lg-electronics@balto #2-kernel version
FRG83D-Build Number
VS740ZVD-SW Version

also I tried both exploits in the superoneclick program and they both have the same effect

I had root. I can not install busybox because i am out of system storage? any ideas on how to fix it. Without any storage, i cant get root back. Am i Done? pls help on how to fix. linux code confuses me.

I think it has to do with the 3G Mobile Hotspot.

Well, the simplest way to gain more internal memory storage is to uninstall some apps. Use the Settings/Applications/Application Manager and its menu setting to sort by size so the biggest ones appear at the top. Remove a few of those and you should be good to go. You can re-install them later.

Hi I have been flashing phone roms for a month or so and thought I got the
hang of it. sighh guess not. I have a lg ally phone. I have velocity 1.1 flashed
on my phone and decided to give raptor a try. I used rom mgr premium to flash
the rator rom and its gone down hill from there. It put me in a loop . You see
the lg screen the the verizon logo then android... only for a sec or two then it
reboots. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it. I admit I dont know
much as this but I would like to learn. This is the last thing I have tried I am
totally out of ideas. I currently have RA-aloha_v1.2.4_getitnowmarketing on my
ally. I used the partition sd card function. I wiped the data reset cache last
but not least dalvik-cache. I then install the raptor zip on my sd card using a
usb sd card reader . Its the only file on the sd card. I then select install. It
shows its doing its thing then says install complete. I select reboot and
NOTHING it loops again. HELPPP I have sat here for 6 hrs trying to fix my phone
and nothing. What am I missing or doing wrong.. When I flashed the velocity boom
it worked perfect. I did have clockwork mod on at that time. I tried CWM a
hundred times to fix this and nothing so I put aloha from a suggestion on your
forum. I dont understand what I am missing. Please help a new be I am willing to
learn thanks Cherie

well i have 60 MB/s of internal storage. but when i tryed to install busybox, it said there was 38Kb of space left in /system. So i can assume that apps directory and system directory are different.

I think they are. But if installing something is your goal then uninstalling a few apps should make enough room to install the newly desired app. You'll need to clear a little more space than what is required for the new app. Personally I feel the app space LG gave us is a joke, and moving my apps to my SD card was the first reason I got into rooting the Ally.

Well clearing apps did not help but because it says i have insufficient permission /system/bin/su plus failed to copy superuser.apk (but i did it in android market.) How do i remount my folders for superoneclick to work? stupid me unrooted. never doing that again :) i have the logcat type work on it. Should i try adb?

* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *

You can't overclock a stock kernel.

So then my hope is lost? i cant change permissions on a filesystem not rooted cause i have been using adb shell and getting some where and i remounted with read and write access but it still says permission denied! i have a temp root but i want make it stick. grrrr i should not have unrooted!

What apps can I use on a stock kernel? I'm guessing Titanium Back up won't work as well on a stock kernel.

Most apps available in the market such as Titanium Backup will clearly state "requires root" or "for root users" if they need root to work.

I tried Titanium Backup and superuser still won't accept it, Im guess Im going to have to install a custom rom or something.

ok, so i am able to get all the way up to $ but cant seem to get any farther... and keep getting this in the cmd display
/data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
[1] Killed /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
$

have tried changing from 0755 to 0777, mounting & unmounting, removing vs leaving in the sd card, heck even spinninng around counter clock wise while hopping on 1 leg lol....and nothing.
have also tried universalandroot, superoneclick, z4root with out any luck either... although read on android central forums that superoneclick v1.6.3 worked for ally but not other, newer versions, so then spent hours trying to find the download and then just gave up....

is there anyone out there who has or is having the same problem as me? is there a solution? or should i just throw in the towel on trying to root my ally? any little thing would help.... thanks
