the apology about analogies was because they tweeted, and deleted quickly, that using an iPhone 4 on AT&T was the equivalent of killing a kitten.

With the iPad 2 slated for next weekend, it'd make economic sense for VZW to drop the Thunderbolt this weekend. But that could be just my wishful thinking.

Edit: A few days ago I posted that if this thread hit 4,000 posts with no Thunderbolt, I'm getting an iPhone. We're at almost 4,500. lulz

What am I missing here? What is wrong with the existing Android phones' messaging services?

-Frank

Nothing is wrong with the phones messaging services, just like nothing is wrong with the iphone's messaging services. As someone who currently owns a blackberry curve, however, I can tell you that BBM is the one redeeming quality of the phone. BBM is just a superior messaging service.

So in short, nothing is wrong with it, but BBM is better.

Exclusive: BlackBerry Messenger will launch on Android and iOS Exclusive: BlackBerry Messenger will launch on Android and iOS | BGR

Unbelievable...I am tired of waiting

LOL And here we thought BGR is going to make some huge Thunderbolt announcement. Honestly, outside of us geeks here, I don't think the rest of the world really gives a whole lot of crap about the Thunderbolt.

RIM releasing ttheir vaunted BBM on other platforms is interesting. I wonder if this is the begging of the end (or the end of the beginning) for RIM as a hardware manufacturer and just shift to providing enterprise-level services to other mobile eco-systems.

After all, by the time RIM Playbook comes out in April, the iPad 2 would have a whole month on it.

If you used that would it go through BES? Or a BB server?

To be honest I work in IT, but most of my friends are very mainstream. Most mainstream people have no clue that the iphone 4 is 3g, they all believe the iphone4 is the best phone available, they dont care about droid really. They dont research or keep up with this stuff online. None of them would have any idea what the Tbolt was if i didnt talk about it all the time. I would have to agree with Left Coast on this.

It doesnt go through BES, it is an app technically. It is a data usage thing so you cant send and receive them while on a call (except with the TB!). Its basically a well thought out, easy to use, and versatile instant messanger.
