Help I disabled wifi and now can't re-enable

This seems pretty basic, but I was tapping the buttons along the top of the home screen to see what each one did, it seems the leftmost button is for wifi. Unfortunately I can't get wifi to re-enable! I've power cycled, pulled the battery, tried enabling wifi from the options menu. When I hit the button to turn on wi-fi in the options menu, that button becomes greyed out for a few minutes, but it never seems to turn the wifi on.

Any suggestion?

This happened to me when I installed "Wireless Tether for root users". Uninstalled that and evrything was fine.
 
the same thing happened to me when I downloaded a wep cracking program, I would have to open the program and enable wifi from within. I have since uninstalled and the problem was resolved.
 
I had the same problem when i first rooted my phone and used wireless tether for root users all I did was just leave the wifi on so that way it doesn't ever grey out. I need the wifi tether for my laptop I can't function without connectivity to the internet honestly

Which WEP cracking program did you use?
 
You know for some reason when Wireless Tether is installed it disables the ability to use your WiFi. I uninstalled Tether and WiFi is selectable again.

Now, is there a way to have Wireless Tether installed and still be able to use WiFi?

So ... IF I want to use Wireless Tether I will need to install it at that time ... When i need WiFi i need to uninstall Wireless Tether. I suppose having both installed cancels the other out.. Wireless Tether is a HotSpot software .. but if you want the speed of the internal WiFi then Wireless Tether NEEDS to be uninstalled.

That is how i see it anyway. Maybe there is more on this somewhere...

Do you have Titanium Backup? I'm wondering if you could freeze Wireless Tether when you want to use wifi and unfreeze it when you need Wireless Tether.
 
Has anyone come up with a fix for this? Happened to me as well, had to uninstall wireless tether for root users to use my own wifi. Anyone know if this bug is still occurring or if it is a non issue? I am on CM6 if that matters at all
 
I did have this issue before, and I switched to CM6, and then installed wifi tether again, and I have not had this problem anymore, i am not sure why....Maybe the CM6....I can use both whenever I want.

if you tethering you cant use your wifi at the same time.

No, I was not attempting to use my wifi wat the same time as tether, but after I install the app my wifi cannot be re-enabled even on CM6. Also, when my laptop attempts to connect to it (which it gets stuck trying to connect) it cannot reconnect to my verizon wireless router. I have to restart my computer, router, and uninstall tether and restart my droid in order for wifi to again work normally for my computer and droid.

Any suggestions o wise Nuttmeg?

uninstalled Tether and WiFi is selectable again, its crazy like that...but you can use titu to freeze the app untill you need it, and than unfreeze it when you need to use.

Try "BARNACLE",available in the ANDROID MARKET(FREE).I've NEVER had ANY problems w/it.Extremely simple to use,no problems.
 
I have tried barnacle, not easy tether yet tho. Not really wireless tether with easytehter, its usb. Is it because I am on metro? does having the cricket phone make wifi tethering easier for some reason?

well for one thing metro is only 1x and with cricket they have 3g...bigger speed different, with metro is like having dail up.
 
Okay,after installing Wireless Tether my WiFi on my Ascend would not turn back on. I used Android Assistant to turn my WiFi back on with NO problems. I run iCarus on Ascend."BARNACLE will NOT work on the Ascend with iCarus ram installed.
