Root The New LGNPST Lab 1.2 Thread. Now with HD Video!

When i used the lpnpst_general application it would not let me go through the folder and it did not show my phone info on the right side i dont understand

I followed this to the t and ot didn't go wrong. Everything worked good. Little history my girls phone came with 2.2 I upgraded it then downgraded it. Hey she doesn't know what she wants. :D

i'm getting the same thing. anyone what is doing wrong?

That happened to me on my laptop with windows 7. I attempted to change the properties to be compatible with windows xp sp3 but could never get it to work.

I went to another laptop I have with windows XP and had no issues with LGNPST seeing my LG. Gave me all information and read the model number

Never figured out what process I was doing wrong but if you have another pc in the house with xp give it a whirl.

Help! I can't open the program. It said LG USB/Parallel dongle is not detected.

Your selecting LGNPST_General.exe instead of LGNPST.exe which is included in the LG-LGNPST12.7z. The one your selecting is already in the LG electronics folder. Remember to place LGNPST.exe in the folder and create a shortcut to your desktop.

I followed all your directions, but for some reason after it shows the phone info; the program stays open for at least 15-30 secs before closing. If I do manage to get everything done fast enough and press upgrade, nothing really pops up and CDMA manager doesn't detect the phone. I'm confused.

EDIT: The program just works, and I followed the directions on how to get everything properly set up. Reggie also successfully installed so I will try to the process when my friend (phone owner who wanted it hacked) finishes showering. I'll also update this post to give a report on whether it worked or not.

Update: black screen; followed all directions.

Update2: Was able to restore the phone so it was only a semi-brick.

:confused:is there ever gonna be something like z4 for the freaking 2.2.1 after i read all this stuff i think I will just put up with the daggone bloatware and other metro crap!!! I suppose some one is working on a way of doing it... right?? i am far from computer literate and rooted my 2.2 (which was stolen)after 2 tries no problem but mucking around with the 2.2.1 kinda scares me!!

Greetings everyone!
I'm right there with ya' maczroid, and I am computer literate. Jailbreaking my daughters iphone was easy peezy compared to rooting an android v2.2.1.
My wife and I just purchased our Optimus M's about a week ago, now it's up to me to figure out how to remove the bloatware and change, or remove, the MetroPCS boot screen.

Has anyone used, is familiar with, and or had any success using the Absolute System Root Tool to root v2.2.1?

Thank you

Well I just have used it to change the boot the screen and also the fonts. But I`ve never heard of anything of rooting 2.2.1 with that app.

will this work if it came originally with 2.2.1. if not do you know how to do it? please please please help. I'm so screwed.

Me too. I want to know how to make my own roms. I am sick of not having control over my phone. I am sick of not being able to fix this thing. I am sick of it. This is completely frustrating. My whole business was tied into that phone and it is completely useless.

I know tech shit, and I can wrap my head around this shit. Where do I go to learn about making Roms? I'm so pissed off at this phone that I want to beat the shit out of something.

First of all, thank you for all the help andyo. ;-)

I'm hoping Andy or anyone has a clue here ...

I have 4 phones I bought for the family.
2 of them came with 2.2. (Using z4root, no problem.)
2 of them came with 2.2.1

I upgraded one of the 2.2 phones to 2.2.1, then couldn't root, so I used the LGMobileUpdate method to downgrade to 2.2. No problem.

Then I try to downgrade one of the ones that shipped with 2.2.1. I get the black screen problem. It scares you at first, you think you bricked the phone, but I'm able to get out of trouble by running the standard LG mobile support tool update utility B2CAppSetup.exe, to upgrade to 2.2.1.

BTW, when you have the black screen problem, it's only the screen that doesn't work. By holding two phones side by side, and clicking on precisely the same locations (on the black phone and the good phone) I am able to enter USB debugging mode. But that doesn't seem to be useful in anyway, and it's tough to do this blind. But I mention it because it's useful information. It suggests there's a problem with the screen, and hopefully nothing else.

Then I searched more, and found the new & improved LGNPST method. I did this, but unfortunately the result was the same - I get the black screen.

So I can only reach one conclusion: They must have created a newer version of the hardware, which requires some newer version of software, and they put the new software changes into 2.2.1 and shipped that. So now I'm wondering...

(a) Is there any hope for someone to root 2.2.1?
(b) I wonder if it's possible for me to look through the files of the 2.2.1 and the 2.2, and compare them to see what's different, and then backport the necessary changes into 2.2, to make a 2.2 rom which will work on a phone that shipped with 2.2.1 ...
(c) How do you download a copy of the firmware to a file on the computer?
(d) If you download said rom file, how can you look inside it?
(e) If you succeed in finding something you want to copy, how do you modify the 2.2 rom file?

This all sounds like a long shot. But I'm going to try. And it would sure be nice if anyone who knows more than me has any guidance to offer.
