Impressed with Epic's official Froyo firmware

Voyager Pro works great on mine. And the Icon worked just fine prior to 2.2. Stopped using it a while ago. It's still in the car, but I still can't find the damn thing.

Voyager pro works...until you disconnect and the phone remains muted...doesn't happen all the time, but enough to want my Moment back (i know... I'm sick)...I have bought the Q2 and Icon to see if it improves....waiting to try the Q2...the icon acts the same as the voyager....I took it back...meanwhile, I have borrowed the parrot mini slim speakerphone (with internal dialing) to see if it improves things...

I downloaded EB13 from Samsung, and was about to do a hard reset when I read on other forums that this is becoming a common problem with EB13....:cool:
 
Still don't think you can determine anything with the upgrade unless you did it with a clean install. Between here and XDA I thought that's where the bulk of the problems occurred. And with how you can backup and restore, there is zero reason not to do a hard reset.

And I haven't seen the mute problem, and I've been using EB13 from day one.

Last I heard and saw samsung pulled it too. That's why I said it was official but not available...

Of course the file is available all over the place so it can still be had, just not through official channels.
 
Pulled list of issues from an earlier response...

- Significantly lower performance speeds overall, lagging everywhere
My particular unit ran really well on 2.1, and continues to run really well on 2.2.1. I haven't noticed any degradation in performance, and to be honest, it seems to run a little more smoothly.

- Wifi would not connect more than once per restart
I'm having some trouble with this too. I'm getting wifi to connect more than once per restart, but it frequently won't connect and shows error. I have to let it time out and try a few times before it will finally connect.

- GPS unable to lock on within 2000 meters
GPS has been working very well. I've been getting locks quickly. I'm still seeing some caching issues with network-only locations where it will remember a location from earlier in the day. Switching on the GPS radio to get a quick lock does the trick.

- Calendar applications and widgets were unable to detect Gmail subcalendars for syncing
I only have one gmail calendar, and one outlook calendar for work. So far, both of those seem to sync and display OK for me.

- Bluetooth connectivity prone to shutoff on its own
I don't think I've ever used bluetooth on this phone. I don't have a headset, so, I just leave the BT radio off.

- Camera automatically geotagging photos
Hadn't noticed, but hadn't looked. I'll have to check this one out.

- Voicemail app was not recognizing new voicemails (instead I had to dial in to check voicemails)
new voicemail messages come in OK. I did notice when I rebooted my phone today, it displayed a bunch of missed calls from the previous 4 days that I had already cleared on those days. wierd.

- Some Desktop Visualizer widgets would sometimes not work after a restart (and then repeated restarts), so I had to delete and re-add the ones that didn't work
The only desktop widget I run is pure grid calendar. So far, it has worked flawlessly. Luckily.

- The pull-down notification window's brightness adjuster feature was inconsistent and was left to either the brightest or darkest settings
I'll have to try this. For me, brightness has been mostly set it, and forget it.

- After selecting to download or update apps, the phone would fail to do so, leaving the "Beginning to downloading" or "Installing..." going on in the background. I had to make sure the phone would follow through on downloads, otherwise the download would disappear into the background and murder my battery life.
Now that you mention it, I have noticed issues with this too. Usually cancelling the download and restarting it is enough to get it to go. I haven't figured out a pattern, but it seems to be when I try to update multiple apps at once.

go figure. Didn't hear about Samsung pulling it. Just checked the page and it was gone.

well the voyager pro isn't a2dp and that's where the issue seems to lie. So I wouldn't see the issue. The VP+ would be a different story and one I can't comment on.

Initially I installed 2.2.1 before doing a clean install, but had taken it to a Sprint repair center twice since then, where they did do a clean install. Everything seemed to be working fine, except for slow 3G speeds, and much lower battery life. Now back to 2.1, and everything is working great.
Those issues aside, I didn't really see any huge benefits going to 2.2.1. What am I missing?
 
that is why i waited for the update to come out instead of installing it myself...too many issues with that. i took mine to the sprint store to do it and i have have zero issues. and i have had 2.2 for 2 weeks.works great.

to the people that updated their phones and bricked or done something to them remember this, patience is a virtue!
 
I installed via the .zip file on Samsung's website and didn't have any issues. GPS was funky but I pulled the battery and that fixed it. And I did not do a hard reset or clean install or anything like that.

Well even after taking mine to a Sprint store, and having them do a clean install, I still had issues. I couldn't go more than 10 hrs. before my battery died, and that was mostly in standby.
 
I tried just upgrading with update zip and it is crazy buggy.

Does anyone still have the .exe program that will clean install 2.2??

Is there a way to clean install with the update zip?

Since the upgrade I have batter pulled and reset often, but no factory reset.

I had everything backed up from Sprite, Launcher Pro and my SD Card backed up. I just wanted to try the update to upgrade.

If I do a factory reset and install update.zip is that considered a "clean install" or do I need to use the .exe or go into sprint for a "clean install?"
 
A clean install is obtained by using the .exe flash and update method. Not saying that it wouldn't be fine to do the reset and flash update method, but it wouldn't technically be a clean install.
 
there is nothing impressive about this release - other then the flash update and other things there are major problems with this

most notably is the stupid call logs problem showing text messages with no option for all calls

yea 2.1 was great, but it was outdated when this phone came out so thats no good, and it took this long to get 2.2 out only to be pulled back because they are to incompetent to do it correctly or hire the people who make the custom ROMS because they know there stuff - already got 2.3 working, with some problems but from what I know 2.3 works on the SGS line of phones

so NO there is nothing impressive about this release other then the fact that it actually happened!
