Help Smartphone noob

I have had my Galaxy for just over a week. Quite a lot of bloatware which needs to go.
My question is: Does the phone need to be rooted before I can get the apps over to the sim card? If not how can I move them?

Before you can remove system apps that are preloaded on your phone...yes, you have to be rooted.

So how about a guide to rooting the phone? I can find oneclick, etc - but nothing tells you what to do AFTER you have rooted the phone. Or what ROM you will get.
I'm like the original OP - I just want the crap off - especially that damned Doubletwist!
Thanks,
Zuben

The phone has been out for...15-16 days? Not going to find much in terms of ROMs just yet. I don't think Vibrant ROMs will work because of the 4G radio that the Galaxy S 4G has (and the vibrant is lacking).

In terms of getting rid of system apps (aka "bloatware") once you root, there are several options. ADB of course, Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, etc.
