Best Launcher now?

I just made a switch over to ADW Ex yesterday and so far it's working out great. I do have one question about it though. I have a tendency to forget that the trash can is defaulted to the top and when I try to delete something I always drag it down and end up replacing the app drawer icon. Now, I know where to go and change trash can position, but after I put the app drawer back on the dock bar, when I change themes it keeps the default app drawer icon instead of switching to the one that comes with the theme. Is there a way to change it to the app drawer icon for a given theme?

Yes. Long press the icon and then choose edit> from there you press the icon photo and it will give you options to replace this photo.....Whala

Well what if the EX stands for exceptional?;)

haha Maybe it does. I have Launcher Pro though.. its pretty nice though I can't say I've tried the others so I'm sticking with Launcher Pro until I hear another one has some awesome feature that I want.

personally ive used about every launcher at some point...still stick with my endorsement of ex

Done the same and I switch back and forth a lot. currently my favs are Go launcher and Ex but Open Home has a new version 6 with is really nice also.

I don't blame LPP for adding animations as it seems to be the "thing" lately with just about all the launchers adding them. Frankly I'm looking forward to LPP rewrite even if it is a month late. When was the last time you saw a software project completed on time? A month overdue is nothing.

They all have some feature I like that the others don't have so I just can't settle on one. :-) Maybe someday.

Best advice is try them out.

Go Launcher has the best home screen editing (add/subtract/rearrange), it's just like MIUI.

ADW Ex is fast, but it does NOT have the nice widgets of LP+.

I'm on LP+. I bought ADW Ex and wanted to return it but didn't realize the new, ridiculous timer for returns.

LP+ uses too much memory and often slows down, but the widgets (messaging and calendar, for me) are worth it. Very clean looking.

you can use colorize widgets from xda...its not an exact copy of lpp widgets...but it certainly makes adw ex more usable

Being new to the Fascinate, I would like to try a launcher. I am perfectly fine with what is on the Fascinate now, so if I do not like Launcher Pro, Go, or any of the others, can they be easily uninstalled and go back to the stock Samsung? Is it simply uninstall and there is the Samsung launcher or is it a big deal to do? Thanks!

Does ADW ex have scrolling dock?

Yeah, you can customize the dock on it too. If you just wanna try it out (EX I mean), go to 4shared.com and search "adwex.apk" and download from there. I kinda use that as a trial on all the apps I have to pay for.

You can always get rid of it and go back to Touchwiz, even though I know once you use an alternate one you wouldn't wanna go back :P

Don't think there is a scrolling dock, but there is the hidden dock in ADW. GO, LP, and Zeam have scrolling docks AFAIK

I know you are just trying to help...but please don't advocate getting paid apps for free (or instructing others how too)

I'm sure you do the right thing and purchase them if you plan on keeping them....but I'm also sure many would just steal them

I paid for EX, just can't find the function to allow more than one dock...

There is a hidden dock and it is scrollable. Go into adw settings, ui settings, hidden dock...enable. it. Then back out to "gestures" and select how you want to open and close it. Mine is set to open/close with an upward swipe on my screen. Then just go into app drawer, long press, place on home screen, open app drawer, long press on app icon again, place into drawer. It becomes scrollable once you have several apps in there. Helpful?

Thank you for this ;) I was confused... I thought my dockbar had gone missing and so i would just reboot haha

I installled a couple of themes but what exactly does it theme? Does it conflict with the themes for roms?

I wondered the same thing when I started using themes. They actually work well together (rom themes and adw themes). The adw themes include mostly the app icons, dockbars and wallpapers. Some include extra icon packs too. It will sometimes overide the themed icons that a rom theme may include. But it won't touch the larger elements, like the notification bar, pulldown shade, dialer, themed markets, etc. I took out the themed apps from the nextang theme because they were overiding the adw themed icons that I prefered. With adw ex if you long press on an app on your homescreen or dockbar, it will let you select to edit it. You can then choose a photo from the gallery or choose from the added adw icon packs that some themes include. Its really nice to be able to do that extra customization. So really, you can mix and match if you want.

I tried Launcher Pro, its was broken from the start. Messaging Icon never worked, nor did the Browser icon. uninstalled it and said forget it. Awhile later I found TagHome. Its lets me organize apps without fighting with rearranging pages of icons if i get enough apps installed to need a new page in its group (Games, Utils, etc)

TagHome lets me create a tag(tab) and then on each app tag it with the associated tab i want it in. Games, Personal, Business, Utilities, GoogleApps, GPS Apps, etc. I can use multiple tags per app. you can also prioritize them 100-0 so your more important/liked apps appear higher in the list. When you get alot of apps an easy organizational method is needed.

LP also miserably failed with that. one long alphabetized list? Useless.

To be fair, most launchers do not have that.

adw themes will swap out system icons, icon press color, launcher dock background, wallpaper and thats about it...they usually include multiple wallpapers as well to choose from..which you can use without the theme actually selected...just as long as its installed...same with the adw icon packs

Anyone know of any nice ADW themes floating around out there? I have a few, but none that I've looked into really popped out at me.

I really like the elegant and inverted themes. I also like the text icon theme although it seems the icon choices are rather limited. The inverted theme looks great with the nextang theme. I just posted a pic in the screenshots thread. Also you can see the others I mentioned too.

Just got two Fascinates. I used LP on last phone, and it was great. But I have to say, Touchwiz on the Fascinate isn't that bad. The added widgets are pretty nice for people who like Facebook and such. It blows Blur away no doubt.

But, I know I'll get some flames for that lol, but I tried both both LP and ADW EX. I like that LP lets you really put a lot on the Dock. I like all the animations and themes of ADW. But really, I'm sticking with TW right now due to the widgets. It looks really sharp also. I guess I'm boring! LOL
