If it won't even pick-up any signal(and you know they're there) then I'd seriously think the phone had a problem; assuming you've got WiFi switched on etc.

Can you elaborate on the problem some more as failure to pick up access points has never been a problem with these phones. They see Access points and mostly connect OK but getting the data flowing is where the majority have the issues.
Are you saying you cannot even see the SSID when your phone searches? If this is the case, assuming the SSID of the router is not hidden (in which case the phone will never work on it anyway), there is definitely something wrong. If this is the second phone you'd had that has similar symptoms then either you're the most unlucky person ever, or your provider has disabled WiFi (good ploy to rip you off on network data charges), or you're a complete technophobe who can't work his phone

Suggest you try a factory reset, and then go somewhere where you can search for a known visible access point and try again.

well i finally picked up a signal but it wasnt my home router... i have my PS3 and Ipod running wirelessly off the router so i know it works but it wont even show up on my phone... i emailed HTC and they told me a bunch of things to do and i did them but it still wont identify my router...

well i finally figured out the problem and got it fixed so im just updating because it might help out some other people... my router had a WPA/WPA2 security and there must be a problem with the hero getting around that so i went in and changed my security to a WEP-128 and tried it and my hero picked it up just fine... hope this can help someone else who is having any troubles!

Have you tried using static IP? The only thing to note is "Gateway" is your router IP not your ISP.

Hi!

When you want to configure the WiFi in your mobile it asks too many questions and numbers.

Like IP, Subnet mask, Host, Proxy, DNS, Port etc...

Where to get it? I suffered a lot to find it out.

The simple step by step to do:

1. go to Start menu in the left bottom and click it.
2. Run...click it.
3. in open: please type....cmd and enter
4. A black window will appear
in it you can see c:\documents and settings\administrator..here one cursor would be blinking...there you should type
ipconfig /all (aippee kaanfig space then slash then all)
5. Now, you will get all your computer internet connection details...
6. From that you can take the facts and figures to be typed in to your mobile device for your wifi connection.
7. Have a nice day!

(and the default port number would be 8080)

Heya!
We recently just changed ISP's from BT to TalkTalk
My HTC Hero fw 1.5 was connecting fine to the home hub and is still picking up other wireless networks... however the new talktalk router we were provided (DSL-2780) isn't being picked up at all by my phone, i've tried adding it to my networks etc but its just not coming up in range, even if i stand next to the router. i know the routers working because im connected to it right now. any1 have any solutions?

Have you found any solution to this? I am exactly in the same situation since I have switched to Talktalk?
Many thanks

Yes, I can see and connect to talktalk using my laptop but the phone is not able to see this.
Thanks

Have you checked what speed the router is using (needs to be b or g). Are you sure the SSID is not hidden (the laptop may already have settings and is therefore able to see it). Are the router settings for security limited to only send SSID to pre-defined list of devices?
Why is your hero on Android 1.5? version 2.1 may help?

Ok, can somebody help me with the talktalk wifi so that my G2 detects it. I am pleased to say I am on Android 2.1 courtesy of the forum.
Many thanks,
Solar

People are trying, but there are a lot of variables to consider. ;)

Ensure SSID broadcast is enabled.
Ensure the router is set to use 802.11b/g mode; the Hero's wireless chipset doesn't support 802.11n.
Ensure no Access Control Lists (e.g. MAC address filtering) is blocking the Hero's connection.

On the Hero, check that Settings/Wi-fi settings/Menu/Advanced/Regulatory domain is set to "13 channels".

Try rebooting both router and then handset, and see if the wireless AP is detected now.

Eh? I have the same phone as Solar (same network too). Mine connects to my router OK but looking at your tips, I can find no reference to 'Regulatory domain' on any of my phone settings.

Your problem sounds the same as one I experienced recently.

My new Huawei IDEOS X5 could log onto my wifi at home (supplied by Bigpond via a Thompson Router) and get an IP address etc but whe I tried to go to the internet it blew a rasberry at me :-(

I popped out to the local Maccy'ds and tried it and although Maccy slow it worked, so I went home and started messing with my router.

The fix for me was to disable the "allow uPNP" setting on router.

If not already fixed maybe worth a ago.

Cheers
