Petition against AT&T/Motorola anyone?

Hmm I just called the president's office to follow up on my complaint, was told that my case was closed and that a letter has been sent to me. Now this is weird...

Well, here's my two cents on the matter.

1st - They are calling it 4G, because, sadly, it is under the REVISED guidelines. NONE of the carriers have anything close to what 4G was supposed to be. Not the HSPDA++ that T-Mobile and AT&T (HSUPA flavor) have, or the LTE Verizon is rolling out and AT&T will to, or the WiMax Sprint has out. TRUE 4G was supposed to provide a)100Mb connections to clients in motion (Handing off from tower to tower), b)1000MB to stationary clients, c)Full IP6 implementation.
The carriers petitioned the consortium that made up those guidelines so that what we would call 3.5G (HSPDA++, HSUPA, LTE and WiMax) would become 4G and the old guidelines would become 5G.

2nd - Petition all you want. Then read your AT&T contract where it states there are NO GUARANTEED SPEEDS (up or down) and that they reserve the right to modify available speeds based on network topography, demands and infrastructure. This is what people in New York went through on the 3G problems on AT&T after the iPhones came out. Not only that, but the "Ad's" People want to claim are "Falsely advertising" the phones speed have a nice little legal disclaimer that says (Paraphrased) "Speeds vary from location to location and by device. No speed is guaranteed."
Sign all the petitions you want. But, if you want to make a difference, MONEY talks. The only way to get AT&T's attention is to let your money talk to another carrier.

Lastly, the Revolution in Egypt was not STARTED on Twitter, or on any social network. They were started by people talking in homes, and coffee shops... and wanting more. The social networks (like twitter) were used to ORGANIZE physical protests... where to meet, when, what signs to bring.... Not to START the revolution. Just to help organize it.
Saying the Revolution in Egypt was STARTED on Twitter is like saying the American Revolution was started by lamps in a church tower.

As for the petition, I'm not going to bother with it. I'll get my Atrix by FedEx tomorrow. And, when I want to download/upload files big enough that that kind of speed matters, I'll do it on WiFi so as to not run up my data plan usage. Not to mention it's faster than even 4G.

I have the atrix and don't really care about the 4g. A lot of these articles are focusing on the atrix or inspire, but are forgetting about the captivate and the aria. To me, it's about fairness. We pay the same amount as the iphone 4 users. Either block their hsupa also, or allow all the other capable phones to use it without changing roms or anything like that.

Do what I've done...I had 3 accounts with att just in the last 2-3 weeks I'm down to 1 and if they don't address this, I'll be down to none.

Thanks for advice Robby. The petition was good enough to be mentioned on Cnet and I don't even feel like explaining anything because you'd rather keep paying AT&T becasue the contract say so....have a good day

BRAVO, I have been watching this thread and the one on Motorola's and AT&T's sites and I am proud of your effort. Like you I don't really have an issue with the phone, in fact I love it, I have a problem with AT&T's tactics, deception and lack of response in this situation.

I am shocked a company this big in an economy like this is not willing to try to safe face, try to retain some customer loyalty and take responsibility for their actions and give us the real scoop. This whole thing has grown to a real black eye for AT&T and at a time when the cellular business is getting very competitive. They no longer corner the market on Iphone or Ipad and all the carriers are getting "cool" "powerful" "hip" new devices (aka thunderbolt, pyramid, optimus 3d, etc.) so they should be bending over backward to retain the customers they have and tempt new customers to sign up. Not crapping on long time customers and scaring away flocks of new customers with this bad PR.

Again I applaud your efforts and I am amazed at how loud one voice in the wilderness can get when joined with 900+ more. I signed the petition somewhere between 100-150. I have also directed others to do the same.

Have a great weekend. and thanks again for the hard work.

First, you don't have to be a Smart @$$!

As to just keep paying AT&T, you have no idea of my situation. I've had nothing but go around with them, including LAW SUITS against them because of the poor coverage in my area. I HAVE to keep paying them because, where I live, they are the ONLY provider. Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile... NONE of them cover my area.

I'm just trying to help EDUCATE you to what I've dealt with and learned the hard way after paying legal fees trying to fight them.

But, since you want to be a SMART @$$ and not take my post as it was intended, then keep crying that you are not getting what you THINK you should get. When, in the long run, you'll find you are getting all that AT&T legally has to give you.

Did I ever say they were RIGHT?? No
All I said is they are in the LEGAL right.

Great way to welcome a new member. P!ss all over them because they don't rally behind you and try to post an EDUCATED, Factual post.

Maybe you would get better speeds if you pulled your Atrix and your head out of your rear end????

You feel that because you've gotten a little acknowledgment from some big sources, your petition is going to make a change? Maybe you'll get lucky.

But, look at how many petitions there were against Apple and AT&T for the iPhone 4 "Antenna Gate" issue. Look at how many millions of people complained. Look at all the press coverage it got for WEEKS. All the major news networks covered it.
Compare the support and coverage of those petitions to yours.

Now, look what became of it...
AT&T = nothing.
Apple = Steve Jobs came out and made a statement saying there was no defect, that people were holding it wrong, and for a short time, they gave away free $10 rubber bumpers to anyone that complained. And, in a few cases, they offered refunds.

Did the phone get recalled, redesigned, refunded on a mass scale? Nope! It's still the best selling iPhone out there.

You do what you want to do with your time. I've just chased that car around the block many times, and got run over by it twice myself.

You say I would rather just pay them because of the contract. I bet you don't even realize, because of all my dealing DIRECTLY with AT&T and complaints, I just got my new Atrix FREE, no contract extension. I pay them because they are the only choice, not out of some loyalty or blind ignorance.

As I said before, if you want to make a difference, you need to take your money away from them. All this complaining and petitioning you are doing, yet, you are still paying them every month, aren't you?

The antenna problem for the iPhone and the HSUPA issue are 2 different issues. The first one will require Apple to take back their phones and reconstruct them (the phone works fine btw) , the second one only requires AT&T to send some kind of OTA update to their phones.
Let's move on now because this isn't going nowhere...."Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try."http://thinkexist.com/quotation/every_accomplishment_starts_with_the_decision_to/259649.html

"Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try."

"Do, or do not... There is no TRY!" - Master Yoda

Actions speak louder than words. And, those actions speak even louder with money behind them.

You can choose to TRY to do something by throwing words at the problem.

Or, you can DO something about it by taking your money away from them.

That's my point.

Also, I never said the iPhone 4 and the Atrix were the same issue.
I was comparing the METHOD of trying to get something done about a problem.

Got it ~~~ lol

Zizo Im sure the consumerist would post a story if the submission was well written. Anyone here good at drafting formal letters of complaint?

think one of the problems is that its NOT truely 4g... its only "4g speeds"... hspa+ is upgraded 3g... samething with verizons 4g LTE network

the only thing your not relising is that sadly the 100mb's would be spread out threw any phone using the data on that tower

No different than your 54Mb WiFi G is spread out over every device using WiFi. Or, your 10Mb Cable Modem is shared with every computer on your home network.

The point being, the tower had to be able to give those speeds to a client. If that was the only client at the time, then they would get the full 100Mb while moving from tower to tower.

And, 1,000Gb to a client standing still (off the same tower).

Show me ANY Wireless provider or technology that could come close to that? The backbone, infrastructure is not there.

People complained that the iPhone 3G/3Gs were being "Capped" in certain areas when it turned out, they weren't capped... The network just wasn't able to give them those speeds yet because they were so overloaded.

I was one of the first people to tell you that your petition will not work, and it still won't work, I don't know what you are trying to do become a internet superstar overnight a celebrity, someone who took down At&T. Nice try it is not going to happen and once again your online petition is useless, At&T has closed your case because they don't care, they are sending you a letter telling who it's been closed and no further action or further investigation will be done.

Why it's not going to work, is it's very hard to judge who signed your "Online" petition, it could be the same person over and over again, and no one will look into the ip address, and internet service providers of every signature.

Even the Better Business Bureau didn't do anything for you so nothing will happen, sorry.
