Battery Questions

1. New people using much more to play with the device
2. Potentially new android users, don't use ATK's.
3. Battery usage must be trained for the OS over a few days.

I was this with with my droidx the first few days, then realized I was using it so much more than my droid and it wasn't a valid comparison. I'm still on the fence about the phone, might wait a few months and see what shakes out!

Ya, i think just like every time people get a new phone, they just wont put it down. This complaining will die off by the end of the weekend.

Im honestly not seeing any battery issues at all. Coming from the EVO, this is the exact same experience. Just shut down 4g when you dont need it, and you'll easily get 12+ hours a day out of it.

Right, this is exactly what people don't understand!

It's funny around the office the ip4 people are constantly plugged in all day. I NEVER plugin with my X and I'm good.

It's really about power management, and probably newness factor to try a bazillion websites.

I don't see a problem here at all!

I have tried it and it is quick and easy, simply open the app. Go into Phone Information, then scroll down to the drop box that says CDMA+LTE/EvDo auto (remember that because that will get you back on 4G). Then simply select CDMA auto (PRL) and exit the app. Your signal might go out for a couple seconds but it will come back with 3G. Simply reverse the process to get 4G back.

To get to that screen without downloading that app, just go to your dialer and dial

(*#*#4636#*#*)

Otherwise its the same thing.

ok back to the task at hand, remember guys....I made this Thread to just speak out a little bit on how I think that HTC is wrong in how they picked a 1400mAh battery for the TB! We really dont hear alot of screams from Motorola and Samsung users about battery life...So I would say it's safe to say...HTC is to blame here for however this turns out....In English, this battery is way to small for this phone, if some of you dont think so and are getting great battery life...Congratulations, please dont fire breath down someones throat if they're saying they are not getting good battery life, and that THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING! Honestly, it's not cool!

As for me...I have both the Atrix and Thunderbolt on my Desk..here are the battery readings

Thunderbolt: 50% 1h 43min since last unplugged? Woaaaaaa
Display- 80%
Internet- 10%
Cell standby- 3%
Android system- 3%
Beautiful Widgets- 2%
Phone Idle- 2%
....Interesting, I have the brightness set at 50%, and havent even been using it for the last hour at all.

Atrix: 70% 5h 53min since last unplugged
Display- 59%
Internet- 14%
Phone Idle- 14%
Cell standby- 13%
I've been using it all afternoon, and HARD too!
 
That's what's bugging me... if we have to turn off the 4g radio to get a decent day's use out of the thing, what's the point? I'll just stick with my DX which is just as useful to me otherwise. :-(

But atrix isnt running 4g...So it doesnt have the same drain. Id be willing to bet if you were strictly on 3g on the bolt, itd be close to the same story.

Also, the samsung epic has the same issues when its on 4g. Where as the other Galaxy S phones on 3g have no real complaints. I think its just the 4g thats sucking them dry.

I dunno, i feel like complaining about the battery is fairly like complaining that Muscle cars with tons of HP go through gas to quick. Just kind of a DUH situation. No ones complaining that there corvette doesnt have a 40 Gallon tank!

Well let me ask you this, would you want the option to use 4g whenever you wanted on your DX with the press of a button?
 
My battery isn't doing that poorly, not really bad at all. I was at half after a work day. Granted I am not playing on it all day like I would like. Personally I don't like the idea of turning of 4g when that is the main reason I got this phone. But I understand that it will drain battery life, knew that before I got the phone.

When I truly need to conserve battery life or just don't need the 4g I will then turn it off. Otherwise I will charge it on my computer at work or wait until I get home. I know this isn't ideal for everyone, but it works for me.

Agreed, thats how i felt when i picked up the EVO back in the day. But after a month or so, its pretty obvious that its almost necessary to go with 4g disabled. Honestly, with how fast the TB switches to 4g, its really not a bad deal.

The Evo would take forever to switch over to wimax, and then it would also bog the phone down. The TB has no issues whatsoever, HTC really nailed it with this phone.
 
26MB downloads are gonna have a tax.

Just depends on how much you use it without a power source.

I don't see an issue here, at all!

Your missing the point! If the TB had a 1850mAh battery like the Atrix we all wouldnt be in this thread!

And honestly, this is just me now...Why on earth would I want to shut 4G off on the TB? I got the phone because of it's speed, not to roll on 3G like I've been doing for how many years now! If that was the case, I'd wait for the 3G Incredible S to hit vzw in a few months. Bottom line, battery should be bigger...This going back and fourth stuff is of no gain for any of us, it makes for good convo, but were swimming in place...lol

But i like swimming in place! I dont work today, and i have no plans! What else am i supposed to do!!!

But ya, i do wish that i didnt have to turn off 4g. My only point is this; It takes almost no time to turn it on/off, so i dont see why so many people on here are so against it. I know i know, we didnt buy it for its 3g abilities. But like i said earlier, and im going back to the corvette analogy;

If you take your foot off the florr in a corvette, you get much better mileage. You dont need to do 150mph all the time! Just having the option to do at a moments notice should be enough!

Based on the weight and usage though between the two devices, the 4G should not burn THAT much more juice to cause four hours less life.

Obviously part of the issue, none the less and the fact that they are two different devices.

I dunno, All day yesterday i had it on 4g and it just burned through that battery like no ones business. When i learned how to switch it off, and go with 3g, im easily getting at least 4X more battery life. So i imagine it is indeed the 4g thats sapping it.

Probably a stupid question, but I'm not sure how this 4G/3G stuff works, so... sorry. Anyway, if I get a Thunderbolt, with the unlimited 4G data plan, and I've never had a smart phone before, will it still switch down to 3G? I assume it must, because I've heard that if you're in an area that doesn't yet have 4G, it'll still pick up 3G signals, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask anyway.
