Probably a stupid question, but I'm not sure how this 4G/3G stuff works, so... sorry. Anyway, if I get a Thunderbolt, with the unlimited 4G data plan, and I've never had a smart phone before, will it still switch down to 3G? I assume it must, because I've heard that if you're in an area that doesn't yet have 4G, it'll still pick up 3G signals, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask anyway.
Lets not forget that we have been waiting for this phone to be released since Valentine's day due to low battery life.
Its no secret that was and is a battery issue.
No Matter! I love my TB and will be keeping it. It will only get better from here with battery life.
Indeed it does, Itll automatically go to 3g when no 4g signal is apparent.
People looking to turn off the 4g is just a battery saving technique.
Dont let all these post scare ya off, it lasts plenty long enough when on 3g.
I've been using mine off and on (apps, texting all day, made some phone calls) since 10:30am this morning. It is now 8:30pm and I still have 40% battery life.
I'm even using a live wallpaper.
Mine has heen off the charger since 7am. It's now after 11pm and and I'm still kickin. I'm at 32% now. I've been on wifi all day between work and home. Tomorrow I am going to go 4G and try to mirror my usage from today (fairly light use until 6pm...and then moderate use since then). Should be interesting to see how the battery fares.
PREPARE TO BE DISAPPOINTED!!!
In the voice of morbo from futurama...
Its becoming comical to see so many people defend HTC. A cell phone should last at minimum 18 hours. That way it lasts your entire day and you can charge it at night.
This phone doesn't come close. Stop being lemmings. This phones battery is pathetic, its embarrassing, and its unmanageable.
Today I made 3 phone calls and barely messed around on it and had to charge it 3 times.
Thats beyond pathetic. Stop making excuses because the battery life on this phone is inexcusable. And no we should have to buy extra batteries. and no we shouldnt have to fuss with all the setting, root a phone just to get it to last a work day.
I dont care what the capabilities of a phone are, if it can't stay on to use them its useless. And its a cellular phone, if i wanted to be connected to a cord all day I'd buy a landline.
I'd accept that if I had the option to turn off 4G like the evo....but I dont. And you are referring to which posts? Seems to me that a lot people are doing an awful lot of complaining. Most of whom do not know what's causing their issue.
I'm at 30% battery left after now 17 hours off the charger...have not been using 4G except to and from work. So I'm guessing the problem is with HTC's 4G radio/power management. If that's the issue...its most likely a software issue.
HTC has a decent reputation with supporting their devices...so I think you're a little premature with the pitchforks and torches!![]()
sorry to be "blunt" but you canI'd accept that if I had the option to turn off 4G like the evo....but I dont.
So if I'm going to be blunt about it....you're just guessing the problem. And even if that is the problem its a horrible excuse. Phone was made for 4G but if it was made and couldnt handle it then it is a flawed product.
One shouldnt buy a 4G phone only to find out 4G is too much for it and the battery is drained in a few hours. Simply unaccpetable for a phone not to last basically all day with very minimal to no use.

I own a business i need my phone and I need to work all day and night I'm just saying there are some people that use there phone as a business device and need'it to work. I mean I need things to work and with good battery its a fact. Yeah most people have a smartphone for their pleasure not because they need it but I need it to be on for my clients and my business that's all.... love the phone but battery is a deal breaker people getting 12 hours a day try going through one of my days and it will last 3 to 5 hours at least today from what I had was very frustrating.... how I see it you win some you lose some

mine took 80% of the battery and I had the screen on the 30% brightnessPerhaps I don't see a problem because my area is not 4G yet.
What I am noticing is that the display usage is really high... probably because I can't put this thing down for very long.
You know that's the case when the display accounts for 80% of the battery usage![]()
And no, I don't turn off Wi-Fi, GPS, data, etc. These are features of the phone and I shouldn't have to manually turn them on and off when I'm not using them just to get good battery life.
This, this, this, and this!
This is exactly what needs to be said to simply end this thread.
This phone is going to suck down the juice. Period. If you have ever used an HTC device, you would know that they are known for 3 things. Exceptional build quality. Great lifetimes. AND.... horrid battery life.
Those of us who struggled over the Incredible battery remember this all too well. The phone looked awesome, had a great form, then it turns out that the battery is terrible and we need something that looks terrible to get what we needed from it. To this day my Incredible barely gets me through my shift. It comes off the charger at 3:30pm and is out and about until about 3:30am. I normally end up with around 30% battery, but that's after being at work where I mostly just send a few texts, look up a few numbers and sync my google contacts.
We were all told to turn everything off, EVERYTHING. Just turn all of the features on your smartphone off and don't use them and the battery will make it. Are you serious? Then we were told we needed to "bump" charge. There were even tricks with putting it into airplane mode. Why are we jumping through hoops?
If you are looking for good battery life, stop now and go and find another phone. This one isn't for you. No phone from HTC is going to be for you. Ever.
