The Hero has been good to me, but it's time for a much faster, more technological phone that fits my needs now. I thank everyone for their support throughout the Hero forums. You guys have been great to me! Moving on to the Epic!

Enjoy, but I still would of waited a couple of months either for the Nexus S or the EVO 3D

Sprint is getting the Sprint Google Nexus S 4G. Sprint is also getting the Sprint HTC EVO 3D. I think the Sprint Google Nexus S 4G will be a Spring release. The Sprint HTC EVO 3D will be a summer release.

I am sort of bummed that they will not be out in time for me to make use of my upgrade. Since I am Silver Sprint Premier account holder, I will lose the upgrade on April 1st.

lbp....so gay the way they are doing that.....

EVO3d will be da bomb....in the meantime My GingerHero is PLENTY

Yeah, I will probably get a Sprint HTC EVO 3D when December rolls around. That is when I will be eligible for an upgrade again. :D

It will stink having to pay an extra $10.00 a month, but at least I will have a modern handset with 4G speeds. I still love my Sprint HTC Hero though. :)

Personally, I don't use the 4G. We have a pretty good 4G network here in Pittsburgh, but it destroys the battery. IMO 4G is a gimmick, it's not really practical yet. If you drive while on 4G and you switch transmitters your signal is lost, then it has to scan again, then reconnect. 3G is more reliable, better on the battery, and imo it's fast enough for what I use the phone for.

Now once we switch over to full size mobile platform tablets with large data transfers, 4G will be the ticket. I don't mind paying the extra $10, it's still cheaper than any other carrier, plus the phone is bad ass. :D

Very true, indeed. I think the 4G capabilities will be best used when Wi-Fi tethering to another device, such as a laptop. :)

I will most likely have 4G turned off most of the time as well. It is always nice to have the option of faster speeds when you are away from a Wi-Fi access point though. ;)

Is the Nexus S dual core?

I suspect Tasker will be your friend with 4g. It will turn on 4g when you launch your browser and turn it off when you exit. :-)

So no one is up on the Nexus S huh? I know the Evo 3D is dual-core and has sd card but its still way to big for my liking and I just dont see me using the 3D feature at all. I mean, its not like you can download a movie and watch it without the phone being plugged in. So no use in plane travel. I dont have a 3D TV so if I record my dog taking a dump Ill only be able to watch it on the phone (being facetious). I guess we all have our different needs but the only thing that has me liking the Evo is the sd card slot for my music.

Ive read some say in a year the Evo 3D will still be relevant in terms of the hardware as opposed to the Nexus S, but hell, I still have my Hero over a year later so I assume the same would be said for either phone I get. If the EVO 3D was a bit smaller I might consider, but as for now Im liking the Nexus S. Until of course someone presents another argument that changes my mind ;)

Godfather...Evo3d tech is BAD ass - no I won't be usinig the 3d functions....no much of a point....think the whole 3d thing is a gimick...fad....trend....

ITS THAT SPEED AND SCREEN I WANT -

Ya, I get that. And I want faster speed for sure. It all comes back to the screen size for me I think. Im a front pocket cell phone guy and the EVO is a brick inside it to me. Ive played with the Evo many times and I just never really get to the point of liking the size. But I know many love it.

I've waited to upgrade... have had it available since October, the HERO is fine for what I do, but the EVO3D will ROCK just like the original EVO did when it came out. Big difference between the EVO3D and the Nexus S, mainly the MicroSD slot, the Tegra GPU and of course the Dual Core 1.2ghz Snapdragon processor.

All I gotta say is I'm glad I waited and will wait for June/whatever for some serious Horsepower!!! :)

LPH, you should call and talk to Customer Retentions about keeping the Premium Upgrade specifically for the EVO3D or Nexus. I've read around (online) that they'll put notation into your account file to maintain that upgrade when the phone comes out, but don't quote me ok, just a suggestion ;)

Regards!
:)

It also comes down to the handset manufacturer. I trust HTC branded handsets. I actually do not have a 3D television either and in fact have no interest in getting one at all, at least for now. The 3D content on the Sprint HTC EVO 3D, as far as I am concerned, would be mostly viewed on said handset. Truly, it is the dual-core CPU that is drawing me to the Sprint HTC EVO 3D. That and the HTC build quality. Nothing against Samsung as I love their HD televisions sets. I have a few of them in my house and the quality and picture is superb. ;)

Sure, with the Google Nexus S, you will be getting the latest and greatest updates direct from Google, at least for a while, and you will not be hampered by Samsung and its slow update process. My last smartphone was an AT&T Samsung Epix that ran Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and it was a good handset. I never had an issues with it. However, Samsung took well over a year to deliver Windows Mobile 6.5 and by then I had already moved onto my Sprint HTC Hero. There are a few things that bother me about the Google Nexus S though. It has no microSD card slot, though a generous 16 GB of internal space, and it has no LED notifications. I know that there are kernels that will let the LED lights under the buttons flash, but I do not care for that. I want to be able to expand my storage and have a dedicated LED notification light, so call me picky. :)

Good luck with your new phone even though you'll still kick my ass in wordfeud:p:p;):D

Be careful what you wish for, as most of us enjoy having a rooted phone, locked bootloaders may be in our future:( ie: DroidX, Milestone;)

LBP & Mahalo - Re the upgrade. I was eligible for the upgrade in Feb (I am a Silver Premiere now) and waited since I figured Sprint would have new phones coming out (and they did - the dual processor Evo 3D caught my eye) I updated my Hero to Gingerbread and the thing smokes now (thanks to help from this forum) BUT THE UPGRADE - I called Sprint on Monday of this week to confirm that my upgrade did not go away and lo and behold it had. I raised hell (politely, but firmly) and got it back. They mentioned the letter they sent out and I pointed out that nowhere in the letter did it say that it was going to rescind upgrades already awarded. I let them know I was originally going to get an Evo with it, but they announced the new phones and I decided to wait - that seemed to do the trick. FYI - the person who answered the phone had no power to help me - had to speak to her supervisor and he took care of it.

Yeah, it's going to suck having locked bootloaders if this is where the industry is leaning. Still, finally having more choices in high end devices on Sprint is going to make me happy when my time comes to renew. It's going to be tough, but I'm sure non of the devices will disappoint.
