The benchmarks that have come out for the gingerbread updates for droidx and droid 2 would say otherwise.

like medion said, benchmarks are basically pointless, I base my judgement on the fact I've run gingerbread on my phone. And performance increases of real world apps is neglible.

Yes, there are some nice new tweaks that medion mentioned, but again don't expect if/when gingerbread comes out you are going to have your socks blown off by a drastically quicker phone.

The enhancement is less than what happened when the incredible was updated to 2.2

I think I have come up with an analogy(or whatever you want to call this)

JIT is like steroids, garbage collector is like flax seed oil

Don't bother unrooting. I maintain my own custom ROM over at XDA based on the stock ROM, and I plan to have the GB build out before Verizon even does their OTA, so long as there's one leak at least a week before the OTA.

And even if I fall through, we have many talented developers capable of doing at least the same.

Yeah I no man are you gonna try and incourprate the new sence if it isint build in at all?

If we do get GB and new sense would we get fastboot or is that a hardware limitation

I dont think thats a hardware limitation, i remember there being a rom ported to the incredible that included it almost right away. I dont do the rom thing though, i dunno if newer roms incorporate it.

I have recently been in touch with an "Expert" over at:

Ask Questions, Get Answers from Experts ASAP | JustAnswer

...in relation to why my Motorola Roadster Bluetooth car Kit TZ700 isn't getting the NAME from the incoming caller spoken to me; instead, I'm just getting the incoming phone NUMBER spoken to me. I had suspected that it might have something to do with 2.2. The "Expert" did indeed say that it was a problem with the Bluetooth coding in FROYO and that he has seen several problems with the 2.2 Bluetooth and that I'd have to wait until 2.3 is rolled out to fix the problem with my Roadster. At any rate, for your reading pleasure, here's a brief part of that conversation between the two of us which is relevant to this thread:

ME: Quick question for you - do you have any word if the HTC Incredible, which was released on 4/28/10, is even slated to receive the Gingerbread 2.3 OS?

EXPERT: Last I heard it was supposed to be pushed out in late March for the Incredible...but Verizon has been missing about every one of its push target dates. I would say in the next 60 days or so.

...better late than never, I suppose....

yeah i have a felling it is on its way i hope but ass soon as that gets pushed out we are all gonna be going over to a honeycomb port or some super alpha version of ice cream sandwich lol

I had also contacted HTC regarding the bluetooth problem that I am having with my Motorola Roadster. Here's what the rep there had to say regarding when we can expect to get 2.3:

Our phones are designed to support as many Bluetooth devices as possible. However, we cannot guarantee that all features of our phones will be compatible with the respective features of all Bluetooth car kits.

We are excited to announce that the HTC Droid Incredible will receive the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update in Summer 2011. The update may resolve the issue your phone and your Bluetooth device are experiencing. Please continue to check our support website www.htc.com/us/support/ for further details as we get closer to the update availability.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

very nice but still ill take that with a grain of salt until i see Verizon start pushing it the phones come December time frame is HAHAH

Honestly the only way I care if we get 2.3 or not is if it brings a native Sense 2.0 UI with it. Otherwise I really couldn't care less, Gingerbread doesn't add enough on top of Froyo for me to sweat it out. I was a part of the Eris to 2.1 wait and ever since then, I've decided that waiting on a newer UI isn't worth caring about.

I'm all in on the Summer 2011 idea. I feel like i'm destined for disappointment.

I have had gb for months, thanks to the CM7. The current rumor (backed by quotes from email from HTC) say an ota sometime in summer.

I'll go on record as saying yes, and no later than July (with mid-May being the earliest). I've got a decent track record on these things.

I sent an email to HTC about the MMS/SMS bug asking if there would be some sort of update pushed out. I was hoping to coax an undertrained HTC rep to unwittingly tell me 2.3 would be coming out in the summer like MontanaMan had. No luck though.

Dear [jayefef],

We're sorry to hear that your phone is randomly taking you to other threads than the one you mean to reply to, [jayefef].

At this point in time, we're not aware of any direct fixes for this issue, as most fixes are implemented in software upgrades, as most bug fixes are implemented into maintenance releases.

The only things we can really suggest are clearing the data in your phone's message app (which is going to remove all data in that app). To do this:
Navigate to your phone's main menu and then tap settings> Applications> Manage applications> All -- and 'clear data' from the following
--Messages
--Dialer storage.

and if all else fails, a factory reset of the device. To do this:
(please disregard this, if it's already been done)
This process may take 20 minutes, please ensure that your phone has sufficient battery capacity. Do not interrupt the phone while it is in the middle of this, as doing so may render your phone inoperable.
*NOTE* All data including third-party applications will be deleted from the Incredible. For more information on syncing your data, please visit HTC Mobile Phone Support - DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC (Verizon) - Synchronization .

To do this through the software:
Press HOME > MENU, then tap Settings> SD & Phone storage > Format phone storage.
On the Factory data reset screen, tap Reset phone, and then tap Erase everything.

If this is not possible, try resetting through the device keys:
With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
Wait for the screen with the 3 Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
When asked to confirm, press VOLUME UP.

Please let me know if the issue persists beyond this, and I'll see what else (if anything further) that we can do.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us, [jayefef].

MONTANA! Haven't heard from you in about a year! I find myself often making reference to a fat man in a white Lexus with a short temper when it comes to secret boxes or unknowns surrounding the Dinc. ;) Thanks for the info. You are always good for breaking news.
