I just found this place while searching for some wallpaper for my DInc, and I have to say, having spent the better part of the afternoon reading the entire thread, WOW! You guys and gals have some amazing skills!

If it isn't too presumptuous of me, I wonder if anyone would be willing to tackle an idea I have, but alas lack the skill to pull off....

I'm looking for 2 things. First I'd love to have a wallpaper of Andy made over as a Cylon Centurian from the original BSG series. Maybe on a black background, with the word DROID in the BSG title font under him?

The second, and this probably isn't the place to get it but I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction, is a Live Wallpaper featuring the Cylon head with moving eye, where he's kind of in the shadows and you can barely see the head's shape, but the eye moves like it did in the show.

Thanks in advance for your help, you all rock!

One of the reasons I got the Incredible was because of the Sense user interface. You can't use of of the rooted Gingerbread builds and have Sense. So, unless we get it from HTC we are out of luck.

There is actuly a sense or (senseless) gingerbread rom in development if I am not mistaken... One the new tb comes out with the new sense ot should br better

Awwww... what about us? :(

HTC Incredible S, Desire HD, Desire Z and original Desire will all be eating Gingerbread by the end of June -- Engadget

I am most concerned with this statement from that article:

"...it's still rare to see a device go through two significant Android updates."

hey long time no see, MM

yeah i dont think we're getting gingerbread

Original Desire is getting a Gingerbread port. That greatly raises the odds of the localized versions of the Desire (Incredible/Evo) getting it. It's a VERY straightforward port from the Desire version. In fact, shouldn't take long at all going by the Froyo port time line.

Desire - August 1st
Evo - August 3rd
Incredible - August 27th

So, the only thing standing in the way is the carrier, once HTC releases this update. I don't see Sprint turning down the update for the Evo given how much they've promoted this phone and the Evo line in general. Verizon is another story.

yeah i see verizion D****** us around just like they did with the fryo update last year

I have zero confidence in VZW pushing new software to old devices while their newer (refreshed) devices run the same software. Maybe a tipping point for me to get a 1 year contract.

They didn't intentionally screw us. All indications were that they were trying to beat not only the Evo, but the unlocked Desire to market. They caught some bugs and had to kick it back to HTC at least twice by some accounts.

And if I recall, there were a number of bugs with the EVO update. Nothing critical, but lots of annoyances that we missed.

Oh and there was the Evo Maintaince update before Froyo that bricked a number of phones. The extra time Verizon spends with QA is well worth it.

I'm not too worried about an official Gingerbread being ported over to the Incredible. I am excited at the Sense roms that will come from the Desire having Gingerbread and the new Sense (I just want the Sense camera in a Gingerbread build).

What annoys me is that this Market malware mess that happened yesterday took advantage of an exploit that was FIXED IN GINGERBREAD! Yet here it is, four months after its announcement, and Gingerbread is only on the two dev phones - with the Nexus One only getting it just recently.

Google needs to start leaning on manufacturers to release these updates in a quicker fashion. Maybe give them access to it ahead of time to start working on custom skin integration, or just make it so you can download the new version without a skin. Something has to be done to get these updates out quicker to devices.

Yes, I know you can root and flash to the new ROMs right away. However, the average Joe Schmoe user does not know about rooting or custom ROMs. And more than likely, it's that type of user that's going to be the one downloading the types of malicious apps that were in the Market yesterday.

I'm just a average Joe Schmoe user with an Incredible...so I'm wondering:

Why does Android 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 etc keep getting made yet all these devices will apparently never even sniff most/any of them?

Google is constantly trying to advance the software, and at a rapid pace. OEMs are supposed to pick the most recent available version at the time they start building their phone, and then update it as they see fit.

OEMs are starting to see that updating the phone once (or not at all) quickly leads to backlash and lost sales. They're starting to compete. The fact that the Desire was announced as getting Gingerbread more than a year after the phone's release is pretty telling that the OEMs are learning their lesson.

Thanks, so is this like saying, the Android version your phone came with is, more than likely, the one its staying with (unless you go out of your way, rooting)?

If you buy a low end model, then yes, you're probably going to be stuck on whatever it came with (except HTC, which generally does 6-12 months of updates on their cheap phones). These phones are meant to fill the market left by the old featurephones, not compete with the iPhone.

The high end models generally see regular updates. The Droid/Milestone went from 2.0 --> 2.1 --> 2.2, but 2.3 is highly unlikely. The Desire was launched about 2-3 months later and went from 2.1 --> 2.2 and will now be getting 2.3.

Apple tends to release the latest version and strip features (IE, the iPhone 3G on iOS 4 doesn't support multi-tasking or most other features in the update). Android phones don't get the half-assed update, they get all or nothing (for the most part).

They just pushed an old update to my eris, and there have been reports of another update spotted in the wild. If they update that thing well get something for the inc.

Yeah I saw that. I was kinda surprised that they would update the Eris but it was a necessary update right? to add proper functionality to features if i'm not mistaken. It wasn't an entire OS update.

I don't remember which ROM has it but I am looking for a sexy girl draped in a blue silk scarf. It might have been cyanogen 7 but I want it for Miui.
Thanks, Alan
