Help Random Apps Starting by Themselves??

OK, I realize that there are a few threads with similar titles, but the content is different, each of those is normally in regard to the use of task killers and apps starting in the background, which is normal with Android (filling up the memory).

My issue is quite different. First I do NOT use a task killer or anything of the sort. I am running Icarus 1.1 on the Ascend.

What I've noticed lately is some apps starting up on their own? At first, I thought I was bumping a button or something, since alot of the ones I refer to, I have screen Icons for.

Like say, calculator for example. I was going across the screens. Put the phone down, looked over in a min or two, and for some reason, in was on the calculator.

Another, is the Alarm Clock. Now I do use it alot, so I'm sure it's in the memory all the time. BUT, very often, I'm backed off to the main screens, and outta no where, Alarm Clock app has started up?

I won't be so ignorant as to say I am NOT doing anything that incourages this, but I really really don't think so. It truly seems as though these apps are firing up randomly.

One other would be the stock browser.

Anyway. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

As I said I'm aware of the other threads talking about apps starting up alone, but those are in the background, which is perfectly normal behavior for the Android system.

BUT, The app actually starting/running on it's own is totally outta left field...lol....????

Totally confused....Thanks in advance for anyone with thoughts or commdnts, or an actual "what's going on" info??

Thanks again,
Jeff / Spyder

certain apps is require to run such as alarm, mines always run and i never use it and even tho i close it, it manage to come back. and task killers do more harm than good, but remember linux runs different from windows.

you mean you put your phone down and when you pick it up it's magically on browser?

Yes, or calculator or alarm clock seem to be the big 3??

Wierd

any new apps or changes to your phone recently? something is granting those apps permission to start for some reason. try freezing any apps recently installed and if more than one defrost one at a time until it happens again.

I know that some apps affect others. I once had this tank hero game and my calender would come up randomly after I had uninstalled it. I'm not sure if this is the same thing you are experiencing but, It was sort of odd. Added any new apps or removed any? Especially ones that require a lot of memory usage?

OK, This is definatly making sense. Because it dosn't happen all the time, but the times that it did, I had been messing around with app and def. had uninstalled stuff prior.

Now, this is where I had another thought. Some of the apps and stuff I've been looking at relate to the launcher. I'm currently running LauncherPRO. Well, when LauncherPRO "Restarts" (not rebooting/just restarting LauncherPRO), it has a tendency to go thru apps in memory, and bring them up...This was my first guess.

What you said about the calender coming up randomly is exactly what's happening....And yes I do have crap I had messed with prior, so even though I still don't really have an answer "WHY" at least I know I"m not nuts and it's happened to others.

I FORGOT TO HIT "MULTIQUOTE- BUT, FROM TOKENPOKE:
FREEZE/THAW 1 @ a time. I have not idea why I'm waiting, but the Freeze/Thaw function is for the "Paid" version only.

I know, I know...LOL, for an app that is really one of the cornerstones of my system, I need to shell out for it. I guess this week I'll have to make the move on that one. It's just that $6 (not that this breaks the bank), but for an app, it is def. really high..for what you get extra...
More on that later, I'll PM or something, curious what you do get extra.

OK, so Septembers.....I give you my thanks for verifying my sanity...lol...and like Toke said something is granting them permission to startup. I'm guessing (WILD guessing) that when I'm uninstalling or whatever, Launcher wants to restart, and it catches something that's in memory, and for somereason it stays open?

Best I can think of now, and actually it hasn't happened for several days, except I think 1x for the Alarm clock was just there all of a sudden once?

Oh well.....THANK YOU BOTH----BIG TIME for the input. I was more concerned that my Launcher was screwed up or something (which could still be an option), but it sounds like it's just a rare thing, and I'm not the ONLY ONE that's seen it..so, I'll ride it out and see if it continues, or if nothing happens when I leave things alone.

Thanks again.....Jeff / Spyder

Yea, I'm totally against the use of Task Killers, unless they are programed for only very specific stuff and used for limited events.

So that said, I DO NOT use a task killer. Just since we are on the topic. I do use (actually not on right now, but I'm a strong advocate) WatchDog.

Instead of watching and killing apps randomly just because of memory usage. WatchDog, all it does is watch for CPU usage. It polls the CPU and if something is constantly exceeding the threshold it will Warn you or shut it down. (Polling/threshold/etc all can be set). Example: I had a cheap word game (actually on my GF Droid), cheapo little game, but very poorly coded, it would actually get the phone warm/Hot during play. Put on Watchdog, turns out this thing was going NUTS with the CPU, cycling the CPU almost 2x the set threshold. So you know to get that app off.
SO, WAY WAY better than a task killer. More like a killer that only kills what is chewing on your CPU all the time, killing battery, etc.

Anyway, I guess that's what you were trying to say? I didn't really understand your post, except for that. And yes, I am very familiar how the EXT partitions work and how Linux operates, as I use Ubuntu quite often.

Thanks though.
Best regards...Jeff
