EVO 3D VS Nintendo 3DS

i was wondering what the EVO3Ds display would look like because i had no idea what 3D would be like without the glasses.i figured that the 3DS would give me an idea of what to expect.i must say that it looked pretty bad ass to me.gamestop had a 3DS on display with streetfighter on it.it looked good.really good.i hope the EVO3D looks just like the 3DS or better.what are the chances that it would look as good??

I was personally a little let down by the 3DS display. The "sweet spot" for the parallax barrier is incredibly narrow; any sideways movement gives dark banding quite easily. Not only that, the sweet spot is at the point where you have to hold the 3DS pretty close to your face. I found myself having a hard time adjusting to the difference between the optical depth (true depth of the physical screen) and the apparent depth (due to parallax/stereo separation).

I will admit I may be more sensitive to this difference than many people -- the random-dot stereogram images were always difficult for me. I don't have a hard time with stereo in theaters, or even 3D TVs, though. There, the optical depth is far enough away that unless they have something jump way out of the screen and into your face, I have no problems adjusting.

My point: I hope the EVO3D is better than the 3DS, particularly in terms of the sweet spot and distance you can hold it from your face, and with any luck the larger screen size will help.

I think you might enjoy this 3D view a little better. With EVO 3D MHL output you will be able to plug into a system like this and play Splinter Cell 3D through EVO 3D and a gaming system.

YouTube - The GeForce GTX 590 is here! *Official Release*

I guess is is a good thing the connector is on the side as to not get in the way during gaming while holding EVO 3D like a game pad.

 What does that video have to do with the E3D?

bigger and better quality screen...and more power... i am hoping it will have better presentation and bigger sweet spot for viewing.

Bigger screen and more power have no bearing on the sweet spot, as far as I can determine. It's about viewing angle, not size of the screen.

I honestly don't see a higher quality screen making things better for me. It was all about the actual effect not being all that good, not at all about the resolution.

We will see how things go. I had my hopes high for the 3DS and ultimately decided not to get one just yet after seeing the gameplay (ocarina of time might get me to change my ways). For now I will keep my 3D glasses free hopes as low as possible, this way I can only be surprised rather than let down.

You can't say the 3DS will be the same as this HTC handset, they are entirely different devices; for one thing the Evo 3D has a much higher resolution camera; the 3DS camera resolution is positively stone age!

I will make up my own mind when I see it for real. The 3DS may have a narrow sweet spot, but every review I've read says it works really well, but most reviews also suggest that most gamers turn off the 3D effect once the novelty has worn off and because their eyes start to hurt! I can't see this being a problem on the Evo 3D as it can only be used for photos and videos, not something you're going to spend hours and hours doing in one go.

everyone is saying that the battery in the 3DS only last about 3 to 4 hours..does anyone know what mah battery it has?? i know that the EVO3D comes with a 1750 mah battery..3 to 4 hours on a phone just won't do.

Well what are they supposed to do? Current mobile batteries can only do so much! The fact is that portable devices need a lot of power and battery technology can't deliver that power over too long a period.

I can't imagine using my phone non stop for 3-4 hours, but if I did and it lasted that long I'd be impressed. My Desire was switched on at 6:30am, it's now 3:30pm and with a bit of Twitter, email, browsing, etc the battery is on 80%, but as I say, I've not done much with it. If I started taking photos and videos, playing games, etc then of course the battery would drain faster, but I think its perfectly acceptable that my battery has lasted this long. I would worry far more if it were down to 40% with the low usage it's had today.

Smartphones use a lot of power, there's just no escaping that.

It's difficult to compare the battery life of the 3DS to a smartphone simply because time spent gaming vs typical cell phone usage are two wholly different animals, but before I got the Galaxy Tab, I would use my Evo non-stop on the weekends and get around 4 hours before the battery went dead (which wasn't that big of a deal because I had two charged spares). But if I'm working in the city, I can't make it there and back without charging the phone or swapping out the battery (and this is with the Galaxy Tab doing most of the heavy lifting, ie watching HD video during the commute). I need the Evo 3D to be able to make it through an entire day for it to be a viable contender.

When are you going to be using your phone for 3-4 hours straight? No phone is going to last all day if it is under constant use. If 3-4 hours on a phone under constant use won't do it for you, get something that can. AKA a laptop or something else.

IDK how people spend hours and hours on their phones. Don't people have better things to do during the day then staring at a 4.3" screen for 5 hours?

We are talking about the 3D effect of a glasses free 3d screen. Admittedly I haven't seen the EVO 3D's screen, but I have seen a handful of other glasses free 3D screens (even a 42" screen) recently and they were all (equally) lackluster.

Not when it's a slow day at work ;)

That is definitely true. Thankfully we have internet access at my work and they don't filter what you're allowed to watch.

Or school. I know that in my Honors Algebra 2 class, of the 25-30 students in there, 12-16 are constantly on their iPod touches. FIFA seems to be the game of choice.

This explains why American schooled children are getting dumber every year. Maybe if kids actually paid attention we wouldn't be so far behind.

He did say HONORS algebra. I'm not worried that those kids are the dumb ones ;) (unless of course these honors courses are vastly different from the ones we had when I was in HS)

LOL. I was in AP and IB at my school and it was a joke. A real University is quite the wake up call for most "Honors" students.

That's how it was for me. I actually had to start studying, and I disliked it at first LOL. Not familiar with the abbreviation IB btw :(

Trust me, I watch it happen every day. I can easily recognize and differentiate between the more intelligent students and the people that "just do not give a care." I'm glad that I'm the geeky kid that loves tech, and has been following Android since I first heard about the EVO. It's been a great year.

I intend on taking my school's most difficult class offered next year. The girl I've been crushing on told me about it, and I decided to see how difficult everyone claims it to be. The teachers claim it's very much like a college-grade class, and is the same difficulty as one. I try to challenge myself, yet I'm also quite lazy, so this is scholastic suicide.

ANYWAY...... Yeah, I witness firsthand everyday how the youth of America become dumber and fatter every year.

Also, IB classes are International Baccalaureate, or a fancy way of saying: "We're frickin' ridiculous smart, even on a global level." My school's too poor for those.

Thanks for the info. One note for you. I know AP courses aren't accepted by many colleges (at least in California where I got my bachelor's) as anything other than elective credits. Also for med school, they aren't accepted as anything at all (not that this matters, since they coul care less about electives, but just noting). If you are doing it to get ahead, I'd look into it first.

I had never heard of IB classes, but didn't consider my school to be "poor" as you say it (lol!), so it may be something fairly new (or maybe the school really does need to be quite wealthy). I graduated in '03 if that makes a difference.

We are now going off on a bit of a tangenet, but I will say that I don't necessarily blame schools for American youth being dumb and/or fat, at least not in the curriculum they teach. I will say it is damn near impossible for a kid to not get their diploma in four years time.

International Baccalaureate. A bunch of BS if you ask me. It's more or less a bunch of kids who think they're cool because they are smart aka I can read a book and do all my homework.

I can assure you now, if you're going to any reputable University, even IB courses I have taken come no where close to the ones I am currently taking. Gen Physics I hammered the crap out of everyone who thought they were smart. Pretty sure our class average was maybe a 60%? It's even more fun being in business school where they curve against you.

AP is still the same way. Most likely because they are not really comparable to real university classes. Where in SoCal did you graduate? I'm from Ventura County.

As for the reason kids are stupid and/or fat...I blame parents, 100%. This country does not appreciate education like other countries do. Definitely a part of our entitlement problems.

Back on topic for a minute...why are we comparing the Nintendo 3DS to the EVO 3D? Isn't it well established that 3D will really only be a part of videos, pictures, and games that you choose to be a part of 3D? Thus making the home screens and everything else 2D...

It wasn't too long ago where someone around here asked about the pixel density of the Evo 3D, and I had to pull out good ol pythagorean theorem to calculate it for them. Good to know my education didn't all go to waste, even though sometimes it feels that way. I majored in Chemical Engineering and went straight into software. Hey it was 2000. There was a gold rush in dotcoms!

I think we were comparing the 3D tech between 3DS and E3G. The 3D tech and experience is known for the 3DS, and people are wondering if the E3D offers equal tech/experience, or if it's better. Based on the feedback so far, it seems like if the E3D's experience is comparable, it's going to be a disappointment. I'm hoping it's much better than the 3DS.
