EVO 3D: Gorilla glass? S-LCD?

The funny thing here is all of the complaints about the EVO glass breaking too easily :p

I really hope it doesn't break that easily. My weekends get a little out of hand. Last night pulled a Bear Grylls off the top of a car and thankfully the Samsung Alias 2 takes the abuse well.

I have seen many an EVO shattered screen, and the same goes for iPhone 4. That's not to say that it breaks easily, per se. I do think people get a false sense of security with this "gorilla glass" naming though.

Let's just say it's far easier to break gorilla glass than it is to break a gorilla! ;)

How do you know? Have you tried??? :D :p

I guess I was always under the impression that it really just resisted scratches a bit better, not that it was bulletproof or anything.

Yes, it wasn't a pretty site!

I do remember Apple touting gorilla glass as being much stronger and crack resistant. It does allow a remarkable amount of flex (I have never actually seen glass bend but this allows for as much or more flex as acrylic). It's really quite remarkable. Drop it on a corner though and it spiderwebs as well as any glass! ;)

Nah I don't think so, I'm 6'3 and my evo fell from my ear on its face on concrete pavement and its still good and running strong.

That's pretty amazing! FWIW, the phone falling on it's face is where gorilla glass is supposed to be amazing.

I'm sure that doesn't make the hundreds of shattered screened EVO owners feel any better ;)

HTC will stop using Gorilla Glass for this one phone, the new top of the line?

I'm sorry, I'm going to have to think against this. Why in the world would HTC start putting GG on EVO 4G...but not put it on their new flagship phone when so many people think GG is awesome?

what????

no glove
no love???

again.. i like it uncovered.
so i hope it is GG.. for the little better piece of mind

I would hope it's at least as strong as the EVO 4G, I mean, the durability on the 4G screen isn't the best compared to other phones, but it's enough.

It certainly shouldn't be weaker than that.

Have you looked at the barely there? I was thinking of that one myself as I like mine Commando too.

Nope... just like the naked screen to much..
and of the 5 htc phones and some replacements that I have had... with zero screen scratches... i am fine going commando

I do try out new screen protector with each new phone... because I think some new material might have made it better... but always end up in the trash.

EVO was the first that I did not give it a try... and I am more happy

I go naked for a little while and then I start drinking and my phone gets messed up. Now, I don't even take the chance anymore. I love the Zagg screen protector.

I don't like the protectors, but I think I'll get some kind of case. Nothing too big or bulky, just something to protect the camera if it hits the ground, and so that if it falls face-first there's a bumper.

Call me sold on gorilla glass. After having it on the Samsung Epic, I didn't use any screen protectors or anything and the screen still looks brand new. I keep it in my pocket with my keys any other things and it's never gotten a scratch, not even a tiny one :)

Feel like you could take your key and scratch the surface roughly and show us a video of it?

One thing I like about my HTC Hero is the glass. It's been dropped, kicked and thrown in my pocket with all kinds of sharp edged military gear, and it doesn't have a single scratch after a year of service.

I expect the same level of performance from the Evo3D. Call it Gorilla glass or wet noodle, I don't care, as long as it works.
