Root Titanium Backup User's Guide

WOW!!! Thanks. I haven't read through it but I sure as heck need to. I have been a big proponent of TB in the past but it jsut hasn't been working well for me lately. I am about to flash something and give it a go. Anyway, the fact that I have been getting bad results with it lately has really killed my flashing habit because I just don't have the time to re set everything. Anyway.....

Just flashed Kings GB....did a TB....and bootlooped....wooohooo.... The issue I was having after TBing before was the phone "system memory" message and the phone would slow to a laggy crawl. At least this time I didn't get the memory message so it appeared to be a good restore....but then bootlooped. Now I just flashed Kings Black R3 and am in the middle of the restore right now. Hopefully it will work this time....

After you flashed Kings GB and got stuck in a boot loop, did you reboot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache and try rebooting???

Nope...And I should have. Actually I think I might have been impatient. I flashed Kings R3 and thought I was in a boot loop....it took over 10 minutes to boot!!! So maybe I just didn't wait long enough on the GB version. I did get the memory message on R3 and did go to recovery and wiped cache and dalvik and that seemed to do the trick. Only problem is I am not sold on the R3...lags just a bit. So back to find something else. Gonna try Miks 4.6. My go to ROM if all else fails is Miks 4.4. My phone is about to catch on fire it is working so hard....hahaha.

If you haven't already, do yourself a favor flyjbaker and give Kings GB a try, it's snappiness and speed are unmatched. You won't regret it.

I know. I have already so much time invested in that ROM and still didn't get what I wanted. I will agree that it is very fast and smooth. But I had issues. I will try again but not tonight.

Now a more related question. I just flashed Miks 4.6. Everything went well. I might have a DD out of this one. I just batch restored "missing apps with data". that is it. After the reboot, it rebooted and all of the home screens were entirely blank. I usually do a full restore but I was thinking that is where all of my issues were coming from. It did restore all of my apps but it would be nice to have my homescreens restored. What selection do I need to make for that to happen? I know it should do it with a "all apps and system data". Is there anything less I can do to make that happen???

Unfortunately I don't believe there is. It's common knowledge that if you restore system data between ROM's, it can cause issues. Try "Migrate System Data", it migrate's data between incompatable ROM's and has proven successful for a few people, I've read....Not sure if it'll restore your homescreens for sure, but it's worth a shot.

I just did a full restore and it worked. The issue that is bugging me about all the more recent ROMs is when you are on a "peripheral" homescreen and you select the home button to return to the center one(with the clock), it hesitates for about 2 seconds before it returns.....drives me fricken nuts!!!! I don't know if it is an issue for just me and my phone setup but all of the earlier ROMs(Miks 4.4 and Myns rls4,etc) didn't have this issue. ANyway, Kings R3 does it and now so does Miks 4.6....blah.... I give up. I will have to dedicate some time to Kings GB I guess or just go back to Miks 4.4. I am pretty discouraged lately with every damn ROM having an issue.

Sorry for the rant. Thanks for the answer to my question. I figured as much.

Another question and may be the cause of my issues. When I go to remove something from a homescreen, I have to drag the icon/widget to the trashcan numerous times before it actually disappears. I just had to remove my calender from one of my screens and it took about 5 times....like 5 calenders were installed on top of each other. Is this a backup/restore issue??? And is it consuming performance???

I've had a similar experience, but in my case, I was dragging the app/widget too far, to the point where the trash can wasn't highlighted anymore, so naturally it didn't delete it from my homescreen....So ummm, maybe it wasn't *that* similar :p.

I had that issue on Kings R3 with redrum theme. Its like after I flashed the theme it was loading both clock widgets and two off one of my apps on top of each other. I wipe everything as i should but it never fixed the problem. I figured it had something to do with flashing the theme, i hadnt noticed it before that. Never did figure it out, changed my clock and moved on lol.

Another odd note, the other day i flashed OMGB 1.1, wiped everything like 3 times first, booted up and my wall paper was the wall paper i had used on Koni Elite...odd

I honestly think TB leaves a lot of trash behind. I went in and deleted all my backups the TB. Went to the folder on the root of my SD card and deleted Titaniumbackup. Uninstalled TB. And then reinstalled and then made a back up. I just flashed Kings GB R2 and am in the middle of a full restore right now. We will see how it goes..... I do like Kings GB. It smokes. I just have to go ahead and dedicate the time to get it right. GPS worked right off the bat though...a plus. Gonna have to get that VVM thing working now.

Anyway, I know this is not a ROM thread. I my goal up above was to get rid of any trace of TB that I could and then start anew. Hopefully that will cure my issues. I will report back. And I will start another thread reference the "mirroring" of widgets/icons. That is just strange and I think it may be using extra resources as if there were in fact multiple apps in that place....I don't know. But it shouldn't take you multiple attemots to remove a widget(with the trashcan highlighted and everything....it is not a case of missing the target).

I'll certainly say my TB functioned a lot better when i stopped doing batch shit, and i never restored data but I would batch back up and restore. I cleared all my back ups too, i had back ups for /system apps that flash when you change roms, totally uneccessary. My dl apps are all thats backed up now. oh and voicemail for fixing on aosp roms.

Also i got gps lock immediately on kings so it can be done. Havent tried while driving though. The key for me was to let it lock after i did a gpsclrx and leave it on for a bit then wipe cache dalvik and restore...vvm works to after restoring some sense vvm data

Well I did the batch and I am presumably in a bootloop....I think I will change my username to bootloop!!!! I will let it sit there for about 10 or 15 more minutes and see what happens. I have spent about a day total on this thing and it is pissing me off....all trying to do it the easy way. I initially did a batch restore of apps only and that did work just fine. I should have quite while I am ahead. I just didn't want to take the time to redo all of my homepages. When I did a batch of King's Sense R3 it took over 10 minutes to boot....so I will just wait to see what happens.

I thought batch was great when I started turned into the devil lol

Pretty sure we are bootlooped. Batch used to work so well for me.....just not lately. I guess going from sense to sense it is easy. But when I go from Sense to GB or Z....no worky!!!. Anyway, this thing has been booting for almost 20 mins....gonna pull the plug...
