[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

Hi guys,
First let me that this forum is a godsend!
I was on the verge of tossing my hero into a bucket of gasoline because it was so annoyingly slow!
But, after rooting and flashing this ROM, it's like having a brand new phone!

I do have a couple questions though...

Is there a way to make the status bar a little bigger?
Feels like I have to hold the phone an inch from my face to see the data speed icon

Also, this ROM seems to destroy my battery life. It was fine on my stock 2.1 setup.
I even did the calibration trick yesterday. But, this morning. I unplugged it after charging all night and by the time I got to work (15min drive) it showed I was already down to 84%.
The phone was off all night so I turned it on thus morning and the only apps I've installed since the flash were titanium and a

Yes and NO to above -
YES - Us CM settings to set your min & max OC.
Do not DL SetCPU - Fights with Internal governer -

Generally takes 2 batt cycles to see Batt Life return to normal. If you still see bad life....time to recalibrate.

I had issues with OCWidget fighting with the internal governors, but have been pleased with SetCPU.

My preferred would be to eliminate the builtin and just use Setcpu.

I've been trying to read all I can here and over at xda, but I'm still unclear, and was hoping folks here could give me some advice/opinions:

What are the pros and cons of the aospCMod vs CM7? Do you all prefer the aosp rom?

Thanks for the replies guys.
Seems I spoke too soon. The battery life is increasing.

As for battery use, the display is at %80 right now!
Unfortunately, I can't turn the brightness down too far since I'm outside almost all day.
I dropped it down as far as I could but its still around %75-%80 up on the slider.

I have another question though...
With root access and this ROM, is there a way to alter an application's permissions?
IE: disable internet access on angry birds to prevent ads?

Better yet...
With root you can download AdFree from the market and eliminate them entirely. :-)

Using Launcher Pro Plus, whenever I exit an app back to the home screen, my phone always reloads every widget as if LPP had to restart. My current setup is... aospCmod 3/26 with the latest gapps, the 3/26 circle battery mod, and the #5 kernel from s0be at XDA. I don't believe it's the kernel because it was doing this before I flashed it when I was using the Darkhorse theme from XDA.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a LP issue?

Not sure as I do not use launchher pro but in the cyanogen performance settings do you have lock home in memory checked? Just a thought other than that I have no idea.

I run into this about 70% of the time. I'm still on the 3/08 build. It's usually only after closing an app that I have been using for an extended period of time. I've set the option to lock home in memory, but I still get it. It may just be how LauncherProPlus is. It also might be an Android thing as well. It could be the OS shutting down the launcher to conserve memory.

+1. There is a lock home in memory in LPro also. I have both set and still get resets. I am not running plus yet, primarily due to this issue. May go back to ADW to see if it works better.

Does one need to use the special version of CWM Recovery which AOSP links to, to flash this? Or can I use the default CWM Recovery?

Also, I keep waiting for a new release to drop, but it aint coming, which means this release must be great.

You can use your default, and no release means yes it is much better, but I also thinks it means the fact that AOSP, is on a different phone now, so he may not be doing as much work on this Rom, and might be only updating major repairs when needed, not sure, I have not been following the threads over @ XDA, but I am sure others will chime in her.

I don't think that it has a lot to do with LauncherPro. I used to get home launcher resets with stock and rooted Sense and with ADW as well. The upgrade to Pro is worth it IMO. The widgets are fantastic and very Sense like.

I am using 2.5.0.7 with no issues.

3/26 build is very good. Jump in the water is fine! :-)

Does the firerat mod work with this ROM? Played with it before, and had issues with market and getting set up when I use try firerat mod.

Also, when I do a Nandroid of my current setup (AOSP 0.9.9.2 with firerat mod) it makes the backup just fine, but if I try to restore back to it, my phone just boot loops. So I have to start all over and flash ROM and Gapps all over again, and set up all my settings all over again. I want to play with GB, but feel like I can't because my backups won't restore, and I hate having to go through everything to get my phone back to where I like it. Anyone else had this issue? Or is it just the firerat mod that's fudging everything up?

I don't use the Firerat mod, but from what I understand of it, that's probably where your Nandroid problem lies. I'm sure someone will chime in here with a good, technical description of what the problem could be, but in short and IMO, it's the Firerat Mod.

Yes firerat works with this rom. The market issue appears to be fixed now that the market app has updated itself to 2.3.6. Many people that had the issue of unsuccessful download report it working fine now with the updated market.

Not sure about the nandroid boot loop either but I would also guess its the Firerat mod.

And the 3/26 release is damn near stable imo and I think once you flash it you won't have much need to go back to AOSP 0.9.9.2.

Firerat works great with GB. I use mtd 84 4. I also ran the market fix on wiki, this resolves the dl issue and can be done from te on the phone.

Restoring a nandroid will work. I have been renaming the nandroid with the fr settings i was running at the time. No spaces in the file name. To restore use same steps as initial setup, except restore nandroid where it says flash rom.

Boot loops are typically wrong mtd sizes or missed step.

I guess I must have been missing a step when restoring. Thanks for the help. Do you have to flash the firerat boot file with the right mtd setting when doing a restore or just flash the nandroid? Also is the ROM a lot smaller in size? The wiki page says the df -h says 133.6 1.1. Is that not right anymore?

Anytime you change mtd sizes you have to flash frrecovery.

Anytime you flash anything, flash frboot.

3/26 build is smaller, With gapps. No theme.

78.3M /system
1.1M /cache

I am assuming we will be getting a new release soon as CM7 just came out with a stable release, so look out for it. ;)

Got it all flashed last night, everything is up and running how I like it now. Thanks to everyone for the help. I had wanted to try GB again, after I saw the changelog saying that the bloat was gone. When I played with it before, I was having flashbacks of CM6. Don't get me wrong, I liked CM6, but when I discovered AOSP, CM6 seemed way to laggy and slow for me. Cool features and animations and stuff, but when I touch an app, dialer, or messaging, I don't like to wait. At all. The quicker the better. I am liking this ROM so far. Will be staying with this for a while.

Hi! Help me! I need to add support for Russian language for HTC HEROC (Sprint). How best to do or give a link where stated.
