Root Need to start over - new SD card, new ROM

I am looking to start over with my Eris. I rooted it a long time ago because I was always running out of space prior to that. I have now maxed out completely and want to upgrade to a new 16 GB SD card. At the same time, I thought that I would upgrade my ROM since I am running an old version of nonsensikal. Honestly, I can't remember exactly what I did the last time around, so I am hoping someone can point me in a direction.

Also, do I need to do anything special because of the new SD card?

just make sure you format it FAT32. thats it. nonsensikal is a froyo rom,wich likes a single,non partitioned card. you can move any folders over that you need,for example titanium backup,ringtones,pictures,etc.

to flash the new rom,id get scary aliens http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html working first(just in case ;)) then:
-download rom
-move to top level of sd card(not inside a folder)
-boot into recovery
-make a backup
-wipe data/cache/dalvic cache
-flash rom
-flash gapps if needed (for most everything but stock based roms)
-reboot
-enjoy :)

thats the simplified version,let us know if you have other questions
 
When you say "maxed out" what exactly is maxed out? Are you moving apps to your sd and/or using any cache2cache?
 
Ok great. Sounds easy enough. Two questions -- flash gapps -- not sure what you mean and ROM recommendations -- do you have any ones that you suggest looking at? Battery life and stability are my two biggest needs.

I do move everything I can to the SD card. I use a lot of apps and I also spend a huge amount of time commuting, so I use the phone for audiobooks, podcasts, and what not. I am sure that I could be more careful with my storage, but honestly, I am sick of farting around deleting stuff here and there. I would prefer to just band aid the entire matter until I can upgrade my phone. LOL

most of us are using "gingershedbread" wich is cyanogenmod AOSP 2.3 gingerbread. youll find it very similar to the nonsensikal that you were using,except it is "smarter" and better at managing itself and shutting down un-needed apps running in the background. nonsensikal is a port of cyanogenmod 2.2 froyo.

i personally find it to be extremely quick and stable. while battery life may not be night and day difference better,it is at least as good as any other rom ive ever used. like you i use my phone alot so its hard to judge battery from one rom to another. i eat it up pretty fast no matter what rom im on :D

look a couple threads down for the link to the GSB thread on xda. you will find links to the rom download,and the gapps(google apps add on) download as well. as BC said,it contains the market(among other things) so make sure that you download and flash it as well. :)
 
There sure isn't much chatter in the little guy's forum anymore.:( I think it's due to the Tbolt. Our man Scotty is still loyal to the cause tho.;):D

ive notice that. i still check it first thing in the mornings,when i get home from work,and sometimes a couple times between :p and there arent alot of new posts like there were at 1 time.

the TB may be part of the prollem :eek: the other part i think is that so many of us are running GSB. thats the only thread there are ever new posts on,lol.

i love my TB but i am still devoted to my lil buddy too :D

Thanks Scotty for a bit more clarification. I will definitely check out the gingerbread rom. I was hoping to get to this this past weekend, but other "stuff" kept getting in the way -- namely taxes : ( Hoping to get to this soon. I am getting FC all of the time now. And thanks for hanging in there with the remaining Eris owners. I LOVE android, just not my eris. Hoping to fall in love again. LOL
