froyo 2.2 for virgin usa samsung intercept

Trust me....don't let VM waste more of your time..
update it yourself, it'll save you anticipation for an update I thought would be better for some reason. Don't get me wrong, it brought the Intercept to a very functional phone now, much much better than 2.1. But now, there is no point of waiting, it's already been released.

Copy the Update.zip into your SD card (not in a folder, straight to the card where you see all your folders).

Unplug and restart in recovery (VOL DOWN, CALL, END) and click update. that simple.

I got the message 4/8 about update starting 4/11. I also couldn't wait so updated using the Update.zip.

Anyone know what happens when VM sends the update? I havent removed the Update.zip from my SD card, will it write over it? Should I erase it? Will there be some sort of EXE file that will keep bugging me to update?

Disappointed that the HotSpot ability is removed. Any APP sugestions to make a hotspot?

If you look above at my pictures, you'll see the apps you need. Its called locale, its 9.99 though. :/ i however am trying to crack it becuase it can be done, but it comes with the hotspot plug in,(which is shown above in one of my pics) I just cant fully use it yet til I do.

Ok got it to work!!

I put the file on the sd ram .

I rebooted the intercept phone following these instructions :

Turn offf phone

Press volume down, Call and Call End/Power key...Release call and Call/End/Power key once you see Samsung logo...Keep Volume down key pressed

Recovery menu screen

Plug in USB cable (for power until entire update process completes)

Scroll to apply scard:update.zip using volume down key or just swiping gently on Optical Joystick key

Press Optical Joystick key to select

Symbol of open white box and arrow and android coming out

I selected the install update.zip from sd card:

and away it went ..... when it reboots it sits at the Samsung screen a bit longer then usually but let it go ...

This update is nice !!! I did it on my phone and my daughters phone!

Alternatively, just download this FREE settings app:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bwx.bequick&feature=search_result

It gives you quick-access to your phones setting: sound, wifi, bluetooth etc but also has a viewable setting for a "Wifi Hotspot". I enabled this setting (this is a non-rooted, stock, 2.2.2 phone) and my laptop immediately recognized the Wifi network "Android_AP". However, from the laptop, I am then prompted for a password for this network. Of course I do not have the password - which I believe is the point where you are at?

BTW - "Cracking" the app Locale has zero to do with enabling the Wifi hotspot. It is disabled by VM as they dont want you sharing unlimited bandwidth for $25 a month. The way to go would be to root your 2.2.2 phone and install Barnacle:

but thats another story... :)

Well then this will only make it more satisfying proving it.

Those are some of the features on the new update. As you can see its froyo 2.2.2 and the virgin mobile symbol is at the bottom. This ISNT the sprint version either, this IS the Virgin Mobile version,no hacks,no rooting or anything.Bam.

I think it's convenient you have your finger across the screen in the most important place to see if its a "true" update. lol

anyways, I received my update the day it was released.. I never received this "text" that everyone says they got. I just woke up and saw the notification on my home screen that I could download it or save it for later. It does not come from the andriod market, it just pops up when its ready. I actually closed it and downloaded it a little later because I was not hooked up to my charger, as you need to be. I just went to the settings> about phone> system updates> update android folder and updated it from there... I wasnt sure where to go since I "saved it for later" but it was there and only took a few mins to install. It's nice.. few different things changed but I have the "go launcher" app installed which changes everything on your phone. That app is great... totally worth getting.

Oh - just as a follow-up, FYI we bought the phones in November of last year, but (yet again) VM messed up (they sent them by FedEx to our PO Box, not the physical address I've given them five times now), so we didn't get them until December. We both started with Virgin on the same day. We both upgraded to the Intercept the same day. We both live in the same house, so we are definately in the same region. We both have 303 area code numbers. In other words, you would be hard pressed to find two more identical cases. My partner's phone (the one that is now a vibrating brick) got the update last night, but I don't think he EVER got a text about the update. I got the text about the update last week, but I haven't gotten the update itself yet.

my husband and I both have intercepts, I bought mine directly thru VM in Dec and because he liked mine so much, he went to best buy a few days later and got his. I have been with VM for more than a year, he only a few short months. I NEVER received a text, just woke up the day of the update and saw the notification to download... he has not received a text, nor an update. I have seen some say its being rolled out in random batches, some by seniority. I dont know what it is, but your case is very similar to ours.

As for the update prob, you were given the option to update now or save it for later. I did the second option because I was not hooked up to my charger. You probably got "stuck" so to speak because if I remember correctly you said you were in the car... and not hooked up to a charger.

I am sure that they are overwhelmed with calls but I would send them an email explaining the problem. I ALWAYS send an email instead of calling because I seem to get better service that way. They will respond very quickly and try to resolve it thru the email, if not.. they will call you at whatever number you provide. The might be able to push a reboot thru or something. They have done that for me before and it worked.

hope this little bit of info helps...

So I did the update.zip Like was said by many other people, because it's been a ****ing week and nothing from VM, thank you to who ever put that togetther... It seemed a little laggy at first, but I noticed I had AVG scanning every MP3 Again, all contacts are still there, all apps are there, even folders where still there... I tried playing Angry Birds which my phone wouldn't play for the life of it, and it seemed to run (Still a little laggy but much better then it did before.) Kinda disappointed... Doesn't seem like flash is working on the internet either... :( Way to go VM give us a Update with really nothing in it... Well the status bar hasn't froze on me yet, so maybe this is a good sign.... If anyone's having problems with getting their Android 2.1 to connect to PC through USB your not alone, I never was able to, I had to put my MicoSD card into a SD card adapter then put it into my computers card reader... but it worked for the Update.zip(Careful with naming it, Windows will put the .zip I almost put update.zip.zip :P) But ya...

This is really annoying. Last night after I got the update my phone was working great. Now it's the slowest thing on earth. -______-

down load "quick settings" app. of the market,it has hot-spot option.

Quick settings app does enable hotspot but it prompts for a security key when you try to connect... the setting is hidden, use the menu option to reveal it...still you wont be able to use hotspot because it requires a key

I noticed that the intercept keyboard has to be open in order to get a home screen to switch to landscape after installing Froyo 2.2.2 with many thanks to this thread. All applications I've used thus far don't display this characteristic so perhaps it was intended to function like that although I don't understand the logic. More like and over sight!

I installed this app but don't see the hot-spot option?

run app. then hit menu button, then customize, a few more options should show-up under the hidden section(bottom area), drag what ever options you want to use(wi-fi hotspot) to top section. when you turn hotspot to on, it should show-up under notifications, then touch to configure.

I'm back with another update. My last was proven to be legit. It's legit now. The update here works. I did it this morning. It really is a lot faster. Download from the megaupload link so you don't have to worry about traffic. One helpful hint : to get into recovery mode, first hold down the volume down and call keys BEFORE holding down end call. I was pushing them all at the same time and it wasn't working. Also I heard you can't boot into recovery with the usb cord plugged in (heard it from sdk).. if you want to keep your phone plugged in during the update (only takes a few minutes so it's not necessary unless the phone is dying) then plug it in as soon as recovery mode comes up. Lastly, VM made claims that some data would get erased like apps, memos, calendar, etc. For me, NOTHING was erased.

Tim, if you want to connect your intercept to your pc, you must first download the driver.

I don't believe this to be true. You do not need to download a driver for the phone to be recognized by a PC. Anyway, the driver you are probably refering to is used for Tethering (not allowed under VM plan) or syncing.

The other user should try using a slower USB1.1 port to see if that works.

Otherwise the user can try SwiFTP on the phone (download from market) and FileZilla (download from web on the PC) to connect and move files via FTP over WiFi, or a program like MyPhoneExplorer (download from market and from web for the PC...open up the PC's firewall to allow the PC running this program to see the phone running it's program).

I've also had issues with my PC not recognizing my phone. This seems to happen when connecting to my front USB ports. If I connect to the ports in the back of my computer, it recognizes my phone.

Check your settings. The auto-rotate is extremely sensitive, but it does work.

Nothing to check. Auto-rotate is either on or off. It works perfectly as mentioned in all applications. Its only when I'm at the top level (home screens with all my short cuts) that it requires me to open my keyboard for it to rotate to landscape. Not a big issue considering the stability improvements from switching to froyo.

I did use the "update.exe" that was presented in this thread and it seemed to work perfectly. No apps or settings lost. I had a corporate account setup and it transferred that with the exception of adding extra security which required a pin code. Problems I recognized later.

  1. Can't send MMS. It recognizes it and appears to attach picture but then just hangs indicating it is sending.
  2. Deleted my Corporated account because it was getting annoying to enter pin code everytime following a screen lock. Problem was I couldn't add it back. I know you need to select device administrator but none available.
Anyone experience these problems who were patient enough to wait for VM to submit update? I ask because it has been recorded that people who had updated using Sprint froyo could not send MMS so I want to make sure that my problem isn't a result of jumping the gun.

Android Version: 2.2.2
Build number: FROYO.EC07

PS: I guess 3rd time is a charm because I was successful in sending a MMS with even a weak signal Go figure. Still can't get my corporate account back and the home screen orientation issue still exists.

Thanks

I believe they also made it to where you couldnt have flash or wallpapers for each desktop page as well.Becuase both of those do not work on the updated phone.Pretty agravating were gonna have to bypass VM's crappy letdown of a froyo update.
