Android phones worth 400+ euro, NO Android updates

The shame with it is, it's still the best looking hardware running android at the moment. The reasons I'd buy a Nexus one aren't aesthetic reasons, but technical, and I think that's an injustice for a device that looks just as good as the iPhone.

I did get a reply from Samsung, but it was just a fobbing off.

That is the truth right there. Without the support available here, a lot of Galaxy users would be thoroughly marooned. One might say that Samsung owes androidforums.com a stack of cash.

yeah, but you could say the same thing about the Hero. Without xda-developers it would also be pap

People, have you seen what Samsung Mobile did? They've spent money on bloody web-site redesign! There's even Galaxy in the bottom of the front page, which links to Galaxy product page.

Samsung Mobile - Home

Have you noticed how well they've hidden the platform it runs!? You have to go and look at full specification, and then it still only says ANDROID. Nothing about which version!!

I wonder is this case for some kind of complaint to an ombudsman? Allowing customers false assumptions that it's the latest version!?

That'd be like a shop selling a computer advertised " OS platform: windows". Then you bring it home and suddenly see the boot logo for windows 95!

edit: i just noticed htc only say "android" too. But so what, Samsung should still take the heat!

Even more lies on Canadian website:
Infinite possibilities. Samsung Galaxy? (GT-I7500L) - All Phones - Mobile Phones | SAMSUNG

In tech specs under Business & Office it says:
Document Viewer = Yes
Voice memo & Voice mail = Yes

But we know there's no voice memo recorder preinstalled, and no document viewer either. Correct me if I'm wrong, and i7500L has any of that )

Update:

It goes on saying External Memory = 32 GB. Not expandable by optional SD card or something like that, but just external memory.

PC Sync Application = No - Well, yeah. NPS is by no means a sync application, though it should be.

Video recording = MP4, 3GP, WMV

Embedded Wallpaper = Yes ROFL!
Mobile TV = Yes - Youtube?

USB = custom mini-USB WTF, pardon... How custom is their bog standard miniUSB port?

To do list = Yes
Worldtime = Yes
Currency converter = Yes
Converter = Yes
Memo book = Yes
Stop watch = Yes
Count down timer = Yes
Nope...

Voice Recongnition = Yes Since when?

Samsung is spending too much money on incompetent personnel.

states it's got voice dialing

I guess that's what Canadians meant by claiming "voice recognition" ;)

But unlike Canadians, Indiands say there's no "Mobile TV", no Document Viewer, no Voice memo & Voice mail (no voicmail, wtf? ;) )

Canadians think there's Mobile Printing, in India there isn't.

Actually, India is much more realistic and honest about Galaxy )

User Memory 7GB (Total 8GB)
External Memory MicroSD

And software options like converter are checked as "no". Good, India!

Oh these are going to be my favourite phone features. From now on I'm going to compare all phones by these two features only! %)

Further more = No
Extra Feature = No

Update:

seems like India has a slightly different Galaxy too. They don't have A-GPS, at least according to specs on their site.

to be fair though they might have added a voice recorder with the csc for bell. you never know, there are different apps that come with the early ITA and VIA CSC's for europe

in exchange for some battery capacity, lol )

quote from Samsung Mobile Italy:
Capacit

I've got the Canadian version I7500L.
and it came with the basic squat for apps.
Browser, clock, calculator, calendar, contacts, camcorder, camera, dialer, email, gallery, gmail, google maps, google talk, market, messaging, music, videos, youtube
was all that was on it when it arrived.

Odd about the external memory only statement on the Cdn site, :D it seems to have accepted a 16Gb microSDHC card with no problems, maybe mine is defective :D

Power consumption is high lasts maybe 1.5 days between needing to charge.
And it oddly loses the mobile signal occasionally, and needs to be booted to get it back on the network.
Really annoying is I can send mms messages with image attachments but it won't receive them, somehow is converting them to basic sms and dropping the attachments.

So far I have obtained the android SDK and managed to get ADB to connect!
Using the 1.4 NPS from the UK, sees the phone but useless as usual.

Checked inside the phone the Battery that came with it just says Samsung 5.33Wh on it.

Due to the lack of demonstrated support I've added myself to the list of people who will never buy Samsung products again.

Why wouldn't it accept 16 Gb SD card? It officially has support for SDHC standard, which includes cards with capacity up to 32 Gb.

use odin to update your firmware to a november release and that will be massively improved
i used to get similar uptimes, but now i can happily go a week between recharges
if the battery life says that bad, it's probably the fault of some poorly written app you've got from the market

i'm guessing here, but that sounds like an apn setting issue

What do you have running on your phone? Anything at all?

vanilla k4 firmware with one homescreen full of widgets/shortcuts (inc. calwidget, weather widget - free, batterylife)
very occasional/limited 3g usage
no wifi/bt
approx. 20% screen brightness
