Root Bootstrap Recovery not working on APEX 1.4

benhodges

Lurker
I've been running Apex 1.4 on my phone since it was released. I've been having a couple problems, and want to upgrade to the rooted GB, as outlined on Droid-Life.com. However, when I use Bootstrap Recovery to flash the rom, when I go to restart the phone, it just reboots normally, not into recovery.
And yes, I open up Recovery, click Bootstrap Recovery, then click Reboot Recovery. And every time, it's just a normal reboot. I check superuser permissions, and it has permissions.
Any thoughts?

Ok to install gb you can't flash it from apex, first you must sbf to stock. 340 then root, then install d2 recovery, then download the three part zip and flash all three in order without leaving recovery, that's if you want the rooted version, if you don't want the rooted version just download the non rooted gb file and rename to update.zip and flash it in stock recovery , if you need links please let me know also if you have a backup of a clean stock root. 340 you can restore it and eliminate the sbf step

Ok, thanks. I was under the impression I wouldn't have to do all that. On the instructions on droidlife, it said that if you're already running a rom and haven't upgraded to GB yet, all you'd have to do is flash the GB file as if it were another rom.

But in either case, even if I were trying to go to a different rom and not GB, that still doesn't explain why my Bootstrap isn't working, does it?

No and the fix I usually do when this happens is go to the market and download the free Rom manager, once downloaded open the app and at the top you will see a tab that says flash clockworkmod ..click it select DROID x as your device, it will take a second to flash then try bootstrap, has happened to me many times and this always fixed it

Thanks for the tip. Installed Rom Manager, flashed clockwork, then tried to Bootstrap, and it's still just rebooting normally. Wtf?

Hmmm that ALWAYS works for me, and you say your pressing bootstrap recovery first then get the prompt for success and then reboot recovery and still no dice?

Are you saying you can't get into recovery or you can but when you choose to flash GB it just reboots normaal. If it's the second then I would not worry about bootstrap until after you SBF. The problem could easily be associated with you trying to flash GB over Apex. Have you tried to flash another Rom?

Ok I want to see if you actually have s working recovery, this usually works bit wont solve the total issue, power your x off and plug it in the charger, then power it on while plugged in ...see if it starts in recovery for you

That was my first guess as well but op also says he can't boot into recovery either way by my understanding?

Nope, when I did that, it just started normally. Rom manager says that I have 2.5.0.7 installed, and Bootstrap and Rom Manager all have superuser access.

Ok in rom manager there is a tab to manually install and boot into recovery, see if that works

Figured it out. It was as simple as just uninstalling Bootstrap Recovery, then reinstalling it. Ran it, and now it boots into recovery just fine. Thanks for all the help, fellas
