Root How to install ICARUS 1.1 by Isaacj87

I've got a couple of things related to the instructions for installing Icarus.

1) After I finished installing, I had to manually go into settings, Wireless and Networks, Mobile Networks, and Access Point Names. It defaulted to Metro and I'm with Cricket. It was a very simple one click fix. It might be helpful to put at the end of the instructions to check whether it's on the right setting for your carrier. I didn't realize I needed to do that until I tried to use my Navigation and got a message saying that I didn't have data services or something along those lines. Once I changed the setting to Cricket, my navigation worked better, faster than it EVER has before.

2) I can send picture mail but not receive. My daughter sent me a pic and I got the text with it but not the picture. I sent her a pic and she got it just fine. If there is a fix, it would be helpful to post a link at the bottom of the installation instructions for that as well.

3) One other helpful link at the end of the install instructions, would be a link to UBRockeds tutorial for restoring missing apps and data in Tibu.

My final thought is about downloading Z4root. It might be helpful to suggest that one register on the dev site on a full size pc prior to needing to download the app to the phone. It took me forever to fill in a user name, password twice and email address twice on my phone. It would have been so much easier if I had already been registered.

I'm not trying to knock anybody's instructions. The instructions were awesome and I managed to get the job done but these things might make it a little easier for the next person doing this for the first time.

Again, thank you guys so much. I'm loving my phone right now.

i think he got all the files...something in his phone is not letting cwm flash and im pretty sure he never flashed cwm from rom manager unless it does it itself..i stayed away from RM from the start soo idk

Hey Tigerblood, My post above wasn't directed at your issue. I accidentally posted. I hope I didn't confuse you. I know I confused myself. I was just typing out my thoughts on installing Icarus while they were fresh on my mind. I meant to save it and edit it later. Silly me, I posted.

did you get your issue fixed Rhonda?

So far, the only issue I have is MMS. I was able to send but not receive. I haven't really explored the issue yet. It's even possible my daughter didn't attach a pic but thought she did. Maybe that's why I didn't get it.

MMS isn't very important to me anyway. I will look into it tomorrow. I can't think anymore tonight. My brain shut off hours ago.

Thanks for asking.

Nite.

haha i understand that..it wasnt important to me at first really either but giving out my email address everytime i needed a file sent to me got annoying lol

but yeah if you search this thread hardcore you will find some that work and some that dont...im on metropcs but im sure cricket has a similar issue and setup for APN

Bluetooth not working...please help

on icarus or any other rom Bluetooth should be working...did you check b/t settings? what rom you have? did you install a B/T app to tranfer files?

A little more details is needed to pen point your issues...

Bluetooth not working...please help

Sorry, but agree w/ nutmeg. Assuming your running Icarus? when you click BlueTooth ON, does it "Turn on" (says small, update bluetooth settings).

1.. What happens when you press the button to turn on
2. Turn on while in settings, DO you see the small circle spinning says "Scanning" - If that is happening it could be the other device.
3. If your PC has it hit "discoverable" and tell your PC new device.

If just a headset, alot of times they are tough to get paired. I have a Jawbone, that was very hard the 1st time.

BUT- Biggest thing is when in setting, when you turn it on, does that little circle spin and say scanning.

Beyond that gotta send us some more info.

Good luck...
Jeff

not running icarus....husbands phone...we won't let me install. I go to settings to try turning it on but it wont....acts like it is but doesn't.

Hey i'm using the icarus 1.1 and i must say it perfect except one little issue i have came across. I can send messages and get on the web but i can't send out phone calls...can anyone help me out wit that please?????

So far so good. Phone is much faster, Appears light years faster than it was before. Got Gmail set up and market works fine. Not having any force closings yet. I was able to receive picture messages (MMS) but, I was not able to send them. I'm not sure if it's a permanent issue but, I will try it again tomorrow. Jazz helped walk me through this. I was unable to figure out how to get it to work right because I pressed the volume down, end key and power key, I did not think to HOLD them. I just kept turning the phone on and off! Finally figured it out when Jazz said "Are you holding them down"..I was like..No. That's exactly my problem. If it says "Press" I just press, Not hold. LOL Here is to me d3rping the night away. Once I figured out to hold instead of press, Everything went smoothly. It's really quite simple to install, Imho.
September and Jazziete i seem to be experiencing the same issue. try as i might but i can not update android 1.0 in my device manager (in fact i cant even locate android 1.0, all i can find are various Android related items all of which i selected "update driver" and all of which said i was using the most current driver) i have installed the driver from the menu that pops up when i plug my phone in. i have also unistalled and reinstalled it no less than 5 times. so the prompt just says "waiting on device"

I did notice one of your posts referencing a different version of CWM that was directly on your phone? was this the method you used to flash Icarus on?

Im running the stock rom rooted with 24root. my service provider is cricket.

please help!

lolz, dont forget to make a backup and also fix apn...

Quoting:
Zipaligned *.apks. This helps in optimizing RAM usage. When first installed, Icarus is fully zipaligned. However, you must configure DarkTremor's apps2sd to do this automagically every boot. (Instructions will be provided)

Where are the instructions to do this?

I have a Huawei U8230 which is not tied to any operator. It works on GSM/3G.
Is it safe to root the phone to Icarus 1.1 or CM6?

If my phone gets bricked is there anyway to get back to flash it to stock?

yo Jazz alot of your advice helped but i have one MAJOR problem...i made it all tha way to the step where i was suppose to FLASH the icarus, but i wasnt able to do it because instead of copying the zip file into my SDcard... I extracted it.
