Help super amoled display question

Newbie
Hi guys, my first post here on the forums, I have just purchased an android Nexus S, my question is regarding the screen. Since I haven't unboxed it yet, I wasn't able to get a demo of it in stores I was only able to watch the videos on youtube as you can tell from my topic, the question is about the screen.

My mates kept tempting me to go with the Iphone 4 because apprently it has a better display, now I am not a fan of iphones any more, had the 1G then the 3G then the 3GS and I just didn't want to go down the iphone route anymore, so I definitely wanted to move android. However the one nagging point that is going on in my head is the display, I know Iphone has a fantastic display for reading due to its ultra crisp text because of what the resolution allows. As I am a heavy reader, i was wondering if the super amoled also displayed text the same way, will it look the same? Less crisp or more crisp?

Thanks guys, I really like the discussions that go on in these forums, I have been reading here for a while just never bothered to sign up, not until I finally took the plunge : )

And I guess on a final note before I end this, just for my own ego of course, Nexus S - good choice of phone? Thanks guys, I look forward to getting home and unwrapping this : )

Take care

EDIT: Again really sorry for double topic, was a mistake on my part, please delete one of them. (Mentioned why in other topic

The iphone 4 has a higher resolution and higher ppi, however I find that amoled screens look way better than lcds that are found in many phones. I would really just go down to a local store and look at them both and then decide which you find to have a better screen.

Also if you want the nexus s, you might want to wait a month or two (not sure when it's coming in your location) for the galaxy s2. That phone is a beast!

Amoled=sharper more saturated(in a good way) colors. Thus black, and other colors of text would in theory be more pronounced
Retina display = more ppi(pixels per inch) This creates higher definition images
They both suck in sunlight, and honestly you wont notice the difference in reading unless you are doing a side by side comparison

A higher resolution screen means that characters/letters retain their detail when they are very tiny. However, part of the readability of text is their size. Just because the characters are sharp at super small sizes doesn't mean I want to read them. That's why the iPhone's retina display is a gimmick as it pertains to readability (it's still a gorgeous display overall). Apple could have done better by going to a 4" screen rather than cram a ton of pixels into a small area.

Your Nexus has a larger screen but not as high pixel density. However, the increase in screen size means larger text, which is more readable. The pixel density is sufficient enough to support very small text as well. So you're all set.

Furthermore, I think Samsung made the right move ditching their PenTile matrix. Long story short, it made straight edges on text characters blurry. Their new displays go back to traditional square pixels and linear-grid pixel elements, so straight edges (horizontal and vertical) look perfectly sharp.

The AMOLED on the Samsung Galaxy S is superb and I really can't agree with "MyNamesTooLong" up there because I have used the SGS and an HTC Desire HD in the sun and the Desire is absolutly unusable while the SGS was the first phone I have been confortable with in the sun however I did not get to see the Iphone 4 in the sun so I can't comment on that.
I did play around with the Iphone around the office though (florescent lights) while setting up email account (no multimedia) and I can't see any difference between my SGS and an Iphone 4. It would be nice to test out how movies and pictures look like for comparison.

I had a chance to play around with the Nexus S a couple days ago, and from everything I can tell, its a great phone. My Samsung Epic 4G has a super amoled screen, and I never have trouble reading text on it at all. I have also played with an iPhone 4, and the screens are close imo.

I had the iphone 4 and now the Nexus s and I can really tell you the nexus s has a better display when you are outside it is as sharp as if you were inside, I liked the retina resolution , but I cant see a difference between both! I love the Samoled!
