There is speculation that the qHD screen on the Evo might utilize a PenTile matrix. While I find this unlikely, it's worth some attention because PenTile sucks at rendering text, and IMO, it's a gimmick for simulating higher resolutions.
Current specs say that the screen will be manufactured by Sony's Super TFT LCD (S-LCD) technology. I don't think that precludes the possibility that PenTile is used. And PenTile is no longer limited to OLED screens. The Atrix is LCD but uses a PenTile RGBW matrix shown below:
Clearly that kind of configuration is going to suck at rendering a crisp horizontal or vertical line. It's worse than the RGBG configuration because all 4 pixel elements are zigzagging. In RGBG, at least the greens lined up vertically.
