Only rooted a couple of months ago using the one click method, absolute breeze thanks largly to this sub-forum. :D

Had been running GV, which I found excellent compared to the stock Orange Froyo rom  !

Had my eyes on MiUi and had a go with the XJ rom...... Love It! Anyone on the fence about whether to try it or not, its like the best bits taken from Android and Apple.

Is the XJ rom, the better rom out of the three?

GV had a mod that could disable ads via its 'Villain Setup' is there a way I can do this with MiUi?

Also updating was a breeze with GV, again via its 'Villain Setup' - I noticed MiUi had a similar feature, but I'm worried it will update (when there's an update available) to the stock Chinese rom, will it?

Thanks Dan

All blocked connections (to adverts or otherwise) are maintained by a hosts file.

You can simply flash that same file from GV. All it does is replace the hosts file with an edited version that has entries in.

Or you can use adfree from the market. If you are s-on, you need to change teh option to "symlink to data" as the hosts file is in system which cannot be modified whilst android is running unless you are s-off.

Adfree is better as it will update the existing file if s-off or a new file if s-on, where as with a flashed host file, people need to edit it manually to add entries, so its worth checking if it works for you.

Just have to remember to link to data if s-on.

That's exactly what would have happened, but it's been disabled to prevent it. When you want to update just grab the corresponding 'OTA' update zip that XJ puts in the 1st post and flash via recovery. That way you don't have to wipe and all your apps, data and settings stay in place. If for any reason you want a fresh start, download the appropriate full version of the ROM.

so do you recommend the miui rom? i must admit it looks pretty! how is it for battery life? which kernels can you use with it? can you place apps on the main screen? is there any other sites with screenshots other than xda?
Ta!!

All apps go on homescreen as there is no app drawer. You can use any aosp kernel on it. Although froyo kernels for froyo miui and GB kernels for GB Miui

Is there automatic folder support with it?
Could get awfully messy with 100 apps spread over the home screens.

Unfortunately its a case of having to drag and drop all apps into a folder, which as you point out, is a pain in the arse if you have a lot of apps! On a pretty note though, the folder animation when you drop an app in it looks nice.

Hmmm
I would be tempted to try a MiUi ROM just because I'm bored.

Hello my name is Kibbster and it's been two weeks since my last ROM flash ;)

My phone has been running perfectly on Redux for a fortnight so I'm feeling the urge.
Still not sure an Apple-alike ROM is the best bet though as I escaped Apple by coming to Android and don't feel desperate to go back.
I have heard it's pretty though.

TBH the only things that remind me of an iPhone are (if you use the stock MIUI launcher) the apps not being in a drawer, and some of the settings toggles, apart from that its just Android made pretty. I use Zeam launcher instead as i dont like having app names under the icons, Zeam allows me to do that, plus Zeam is very light weight and quick.

you should try it, i loved it for a while but just got bored

you can turn the non appdrawer feel into an app drawer by creating a folder and putting apps in it and then placing that folder on the launch bar

Ok so how do you get apps2sd+ working.
Kind of run out of space hehe

EDIT: Got it sussed I think, the old terminal emulator - A lot less space than I'm used to but manageable.

I'll let you know what I think of it after I stop being so lost hehe
Initial impressions though, very pretty and very polished and just feels consistent like Andorid should feel so far.
Apps all over homescreens though... sigh...

I use MIUI with Go Launcher instead of the default, so except for the settings menus and built-in MIUI apps, my setup looks exactly like it did while using GV. Each of the icons is a folder (made with Simi Folder) and the one in the dock is the link to the app drawer. Phone, sms, Gmail and web icons are invisible

Here's a screenie

Well run into another problem.
Aps2sd+ doesn't want to install and run.
Tried reinstalling it but throws up the same error about aps2sd not running.

from xda thread:
- Type su
- Type a2sd zipalign
- Type a2sd cachesd
- You may even need to do a2sd reinstall

did you try these?
