Help Screen burn with the Galaxy S2?

So with the new 'Super AMOLED plus' screen, is it likely to suffer from screen burn in time??
 
It's not a myth. Some try to say it's only temporary image retention but people report it's there even after leaving the phone off overnight...it's always there.

A lot of people have it and don't know because it's subtle at first: you need to check for it with a solid-colored screen when it's still minimal.

I suspect gingerbread has a black status bar because the nexus one and S use AMOLED. The "M" in AM/PM is still subject to burn in as well as the battery symbol.

The good news is it's easy enough to prevent. Don't display the status bar, and don't let the screen stay on overnight with anything on it like battery charge status or a clock while it's docked for example. It takes a few hundred hours of cumulative static image for it to happen but I've seen it myself, it does happen.
 
It's happened to me with the AMOLED screen on my HTC Desire. I have had my Desire since April of last year, and have noticed screen burn for the last 3 to 4 months. It is very noticeable, especially when viewing web pages with a white background.
I am just concerned if I buy another phone with AMOLED screen, that the same thing will happen, hence the reason for the thread.

At the moment, I am still making up my mind between this phone or the Sony Ericsson Arc or LG Optimus Black.

Decisions decisions....
 
If it takes a few hundred hours for burn in, it seems it should be a very rare occurrence for most people. I would think a black status bar, or black anything, is just for power savings, since amoled uses almost no energy in black. The samsung menus are all black. There's even a black mode in the browser of the samsung wave that turns all the whitespace black and the text some light color. I'm just rambling what people already know though, so don't mind me. I don't think it should be a problem.
 
You can find a lot of reports of burn-in with Samsung's SAMOLED phones. Strangely, one of the first phones with AMOLED, the i8910 (which I have for almost 2 years now), doesn't suffer from burn-in at all. Mine doesn't and I couldn't find a single report on the net.

I hope SAMOLED plus is burn-in proof again...
 
Anyone else have any thoughts on this?? I have decided to get myself a Galaxy S2, which i hope to get by tommorrow. If there is the possibilty that the S2 (may suffer) from screen burn, is there anything you can do to prevent it from happening?? Is it not a good idea to have the screen at full or near full brightness?? Could this potentially cause screen burn?

I intend to keep this phone for sometime, so naturally i want to keep the screen as good as i can for as long as i can.

Any advice would be appreciated.

to be honest i can only recommend keeping your brightness moderate, like not 100% with screen always on. ive had my nexus one (fav phone so far) and my galaxy S (terrible phone for many reasons:() both from release day and none of them have screen burn :P. i think brightness is a big issue for it. so keep it low as much as possible :D
 
Would the manufactures warranty cover for screen burn at all??

Would the screen have to be replaced?
 
I got burn on my Desire but that didn't stop me getting an SGS2 - and I don't regret it. Only time will tell if there is a problem.

sorry but linking other threads of just disscussions is not good enough proof for me.

what one might deem as unacceptable burn-in, another might not even notice.
another persons "scratch" might be anothers general wear/tear and expected.

If i am told (and can see evidence) that burn in will occour where icons are allways displayed (clock etc...) i am stil going to buy the phone. I see it as more of a "heads-up" to be proactive about it and change the settings every now and then, dont leave it on for extended hours and dont put the display settings up high. i am willing to do this because its a KICK-ARSE display/screen.

its similar to saying i want a high powered race car that has high milage, or i want to listen to really loud music but dont want the speakers to blow. be realistic about choices on products that are at a level higher than the others.

you want ZERO burn in? go get a phone with a crap and dull screen. you will be ok then. you want this phone...really want it? get it. be mindful. be happy. end.

My old phone (samsung wave) endured 15 hours of video playback while attached to the charger and it's still spotless and clear (the screen).
 
if people are really that paranoid (not meant in a insulting way)

then just think to get screen burn, your going to leave your phone on the exact same screen for a long time! When would this happen?

When the screen is on, one would assume you'd be using the phone!
Unless you just stare are your homescreens or something?? :p
 
As I said, I got screen burn on my AMOLED Desire and that wasn't at the same screen all the time. The burn was where the clock is, even though I often used full screen apps so it doesn't need to be showing the same thing all the time.

My problem with the burn-in on my Captivate happened just a few months after purchase, new from ATT. I've been dickering around with them for months regarding the problem.

Then this week the earphone jack went out on my Captivate and I am still under a one-year warranty.

ATT Warranty Department says, "Sorry, Samsung says screen burn-in isn't a known issue and isn't covered."
When I asked, "What about the earphone jack that no longer works?," they said, "Sorry, if they don't cover one thing, they won't fix anything that is wrong with the phone," even if it is not the customer's fault (which is the situation in my case).

I had to buy a NEW Captivate by upgrading my second line with ATT. Had I initially purchased the monthly $5.00 insurance, there would have been "no questions asked" to replace/fix the phone, which I will be sure to do this time around, because I am sure I will have a similar issue with the display as time goes by.

My screen burn-in has become worse each month, despite having the display on "automatic" with a very dim setting, unplugging the charger as soon as it says "battery full," leaving the display off at night, etc.

When I raised a hissy-fit with ATT today for NOT covering my phone under warranty based on Samsung's discussion with them, they did reimburse me the cost of my upgrade (I've been with them for like 8 years now).

Also, when I called Samsung directly to complain about them telling ATT Warranty that it isn't a known issue when hundreds or thousands are posting in forums online, they told me, "No problem, we'll fix the display and earphone plug at no cost and will even include shipping both ways." I'll believe it when it happens and promise to report back here and elsewhere.

I hope to get Rob Pegoraro, tech writer at the Washington Post, involved with this because Samsung needs to publicly address the issue, as does ATT, which told me today, "We don't have any complaints about the problem you are describing," which we know is total bull! A lower-end rep and supervisor both told me they typed and typed stuff in their database for my model phone and couldn't find the problem anywhere!

The ATT Warranty rep told me, "You are the first person to describe anything like this to me regarding the Samsung Android phones screens. Interesting, isn't it?
 
On my Fascinate you can clearing make out the battery charged message along with the time it happened. It's always visible.
 
Has anyone noticed any type of screen burn on their device now that some of you have had yours a few months?
 
My 8 week old s2 has very noticeable burn-in, even after excercising caution. 1 min screen timeout set, almost always 50% brightness (unless watching movies, etc).

The pixel-retention comes from the game wordfeud (a scrabble clone) - the letter squares (and generic letter figures & letter scores on them) are all permanently visible on any plain'ish background (Eg. Marketplace) , not noticeable though against a bg of a photo etc.

Majorly annoyed. I open the app multiple times each day - but never for long periods (generally 5-10 mins at a time, swapping between the view that caused the burn-in, and another in-game screen) and have never had phone screen settings to stay on for longer than a minute.

Will post photos if anyone is interested..
