3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

Just saw the Evo 3D during the driver introductions for the NASCAR all start race. :D

They are running videos of it in the background with the specs and Miss Sprint cup video chatting on it.

Evo 3D Banners all over the stage.

Still only says coming soon.....

Big race in Daytona coming up July 4th weekend too.

Showed the actual phone on set with the 3D photo grid up. Looked awesome!

Yeah they had a video montage during driver introductions, exalting it's dual cameras, dual core processing, 3D.

Then one of the commentator's was showing it off, mentioned the no glasses 3D, said she was going to take picture of a driver but she was really taking a picture of a monitor, doubt it turned out well ;p

Am suprised they didnt mention 3d video capture, as that seems really futuristic for a pocket device. No release date mentioned, just "coming soon" during the video montage. I am DVRing the broadcast, hope they give a release at the end of the race.

Pic of Krista Voda holding it up for everypne to see.

Looks like it has a serial number on the upper left corner.

Just saw the EVO 3D on top of the winners car (what's left of it) in victory lane of the Sprint All Star race. Like they used to do with the Evo 4G :D

Hahahahaha :D look at the guy in the hat on stage right behind the girl pointing. What is he doing? his best gorilla impression? This photo needs thought bubbles added to it.

So I was just noticing on the Evo 3D the Notification LED appears to be under the speaker grille and operate just like on the Evo 4G. It is illuminated when charging and I just watched a Video that had it blinking for a message alert. (see photo)

But there is another little something to the left of the speaker opposite the front facing camera. I don't recall any videos pointing it out but I have a bad memory. Is that the ambient light/proximity sensor? Or could it be another notification LED of some kind? (see photo; shrubby's photo from the previous page)

Maybe it is just wishful thinking, but I really liked the fact that the Evo 4G had 2 LED's for notification. Even if it was a convenient 'mistake'. The notification duration lasted much longer and was more customizable on the unused LED. I doubt they will leave another extra present behind the speaker grille for us. Maybe they should add more options to the stock notification LED if there is not a second one somewhere.

aww i was hoping there would be something about it in bestbuy's june mobile buyer's guide, but nothing :(

I was really hoping for this too, but I'm still not too concerned. The Nexus S was featured on the front page of the May ad, and it was still pretty heavily advertised in the June ad. Since the have the "national retail exclusive" I think they're really going to be pushing the Nexus S over the Evo 3D. I'm still hopeful that we'll see the Evo 3D launch on this side of June with all of the advertising we saw from Sprint during the NASCAR event yesterday. I bet we'll hear something by May 31 if it's going to launch by June 11.

It's not like Sprint and Best Buy have weekly meetings over when a phone is going to launch. Nobody pays attention to Best Buy, especially if you like to go to your local Sprint Store. All Sprint needs is one UPS delivery truck with all of the in-store ads and pamphlets. I know how Sprint rolls.

Just to add a couple new things to the release date rumors:

1. The Nexus S launched on May 8th, so if Sprint is trying to prevent people from "trading up" to the Evo 3D, they may wait until the 10th to launch (I'm pretty sure it's going to launch on a Friday like all of Sprint's flagship devices).

Trading up? There are plenty of us who bought the Nexus S who think its the better device and wouldnt trade it for an Evo 3D regardless. I am sure Sprint isnt concerned with that. You'll have to let all of us Nexus S owners know how cool 2.3 is while we are on 2.3.5 :)

Trading up is the wrong term here but Sprint has to be concerned with people swapping out expensive phones within the 30 day period. I could take a guess that that is why they don't release premium phones within 30 days of each other (I'll have to go back and check the history). You Nexus S owners will have to let us know how cool it is to have a phone without those bothersome LED notifications or a pesky SD card slot. Hmm oh and how can I forget that super cool plastic feel :)

If you don't care about the Evo 3D, then you're in the wrong thread.

As for 2.3.5, my phone will be rooted anyway so I'll have whatever OS I want.

If you want to participate in the discussions, fine, glad to have your outside point of view.

If you're here thinking it's ok to get snarky and ridicule others decisions, think again. I don't care from phone model - forum vacations are an equal-opportunity deal where snarky trolling is concerned.

I got off the phone with a Sprint representative not too long ago, helped me with another issue. I told him that I couldn't wait for the Evo 3d, and asked point blank when the Evo 3d was coming out. He told me "mid July" is what is being targeted right now, with no specific date yet, but also cautioned things could change. He also told me that the iphone will also be coming out for Sprint in July, "July is going to be a very busy month for Sprint".

Take it for whatever it's worth. He did get the issue resolved, somehow I got a $50 credit from Sprint out of the deal (agreeing to re-up with Sprint for 2 years, going to anyway), and had somebody tell me something other than "I don't know" for release date - a good Sunday for me! We will see if he knew what he was talking about.

I doubt it would be 4th of July Weekend. Way too much going on that weekend. Also I am about 99% sure LTE is not being added to a WiMax phone. Even if (when) Sprint switches to LTE it would be a few years until the network was up and running. Maybe software bugs but what do you mean same experience as Evo 4g? I have had mine since launch day with zero issues.

From what i recall i read a lot of people had problems when the Evo 4G was released and they pushed an update pretty quickly. Maybe i missed read something.

Didn't they say LTE 2012-13? which would mean a lot of people still having a E3D that would need to be upgraded like they did with the iDEN phones?

Maybe by a long term cost savings to include it now instead of upgrading a lot of phones. Maybe i'm totally wrong but it would make better business sense no?

HTC said recently that they would have NFC in phones this year. Why not start with a Sprint flagship phone?
http://androidandme.com/2011/04/news/htc-to-release-an-nfc-capable-device-slightly-above-the-htc-sensation/

Just a lot of supposition i know, but am i that totally off base?
