3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

If that is the 4th week of training, then logically it would be available the first or 2nd week of June, if thats the logic we are going with. After further consideration, the sensation, although similar to the evo 3d, spec wise the evo 3d is better.

Its amazing how reverse psychology can have an affect on one's mind. I been wanting this phone more than anything else but over the last week or so I been telling myself it wont be released until july. Now I sit hear not even caring as much about the release date any more. Come on guys/gals its just as phone and as soon as its released someone is going to create a thread about what they would like in the next evo.

On a personal note I also played with the nexus s and I was simply impressed but I am not going to waste an upgrade on a phone that could have easily been released on sprint 6 months ago. Also the dev community will make sure that the evo 3d will have the latest and greatest AOSP builds just like any other nexus.

It's true that it is just a phone. But I have a trip coming up in late June. I was hoping to use my new phone to get some 3D videos on that trip. More important than that, I only have like 2 days after release to pick up my preorder. So if I am out of town on release day I am pretty much screwed.

It's time Sprint gave us some info. Let me know right now if I should try to move my preorder to a store in another city or something.

I certainly hope that works for some people out there, but not for me. Since I'm still rocking a breaking down Touch Pro 2 (it's recently taken to deciding it doesn't want to power on the display unless I restart or get a notification (call/text/email). If I just want to power up to view something, I have to pull the battery and power cycle.

Not at all interested in going out to Craigslist or anything and buying essentially a "loaner" phone to use in the meantime, nor using up my upgrade credit on something, so I'm still hoping for ASAP release.

So, YMMV, I'm glad it works for you, and I may be in a much smaller percentage, but I'm in more of the "need" a new handset category than just want.

Edit: Following up on your Nexus comment, I too was relatively impressed playing with it in store, but I feel like I can have it and more (sans NFC I guess) by getting the Evo 3D and flashing, so I'm not interested in getting it, nor getting and trading (and possibly getting stuck with depending on 3D release). Had the Nexus been out at the end of last year/Jan of this, I may have been entirely pleased with and have been rocking it for months at this point.

get a preorder at the same chain store in the new city. (assuming that the store is in both locations). Then when the phone releases you can use both gift cards at the location you pick up at.

I'm in the same boat yes it's just a phone but I already wiped my EVO had a great offer on Craigs List who bailed out at the last minute so Sprint bought it back yesterday. If I still had my EVO then yes I could care less if it was July or not but since I am with Purp0le Lotus yes I have to say I really wanted it to be june 4th which we all know is not going to happen. All over the web it says it's been pushed back 3 weeks and it's June 24th so I'll just have to wait. I have an Android tablet so it won't be the worse thing for me. And I'm not wasting my upgrade on anything else neither will use my Lotus till 3D is out.

Easy for people to say when they have a fully functional phone.

I have a touch pro 2 on AT&T's crap network. I drop plenty of calls, my phone is slow even when overclocked at 400Mhz over it's stock speed.

I just want a new phone. And i'd rather get the best one.

I guess Sprint is just out to destroy EarlyMon's list of pre-release rumors by keeping it on the "when is it going to be released" gossip. See that, Early? Sprint knows about you and they are watching! Paranoid, yet? :P

I can definitely understand your pain especially since you are still rocking a tp2, I kept my tp2 for international purposes but then I sold it after I realized how frustrating and slow it actually was. Its funny though, when I bought my tp2, I thought it was a great improvement over the tp1 and with all the custom roms it turned into a great user experience for the most part up until I got my evo. After I got my evo I then realized that the user experience really sucked on the tp2 and it frustrated the hell out of me to have to use it when I had to, so I sold it.

Now to get back on topic. I guess what I am trying to say is we all came up with crazy speculations and we all have been wrong so far and its been really fun having all these discussions about the release date. At the end of the day though we have absolutely no control over what sprint will do as far as release date, so why worry about something we have no control over? It will be released when its released, its not like we don't have other options.

after seriously considering the evo and even getting a pre-order at best buy i have now changed course. I'm glad I did. I decided the 3d and dual core is overrated. The evo 3d software doesn't even support full use of the 2nd core. I flashed an AOSP Rom yesterday and fell in love with pure google. The benefits of owning google's flagship device out weighs anything the EVO 3D has to offer.

You are entitled to your opinion, of course, and here's mine:

You settled for a much lesser phone.

I'll give you the fact that AOSP is nice. But you can have that (or extremely close to that) on any fully rootable device, which HTC is now promising. I've been running GB for a while now, and I love it.

You are incorrect that the Evo 3D doesn't utilize the dual core. Too much has already been written to debunk this, including several app developers deciding to stop the nonsense.

PenTile RGBG reduces the sharpness of whatever screen its utilized on, so your WVGA screen has the clarity of something much less. This is actually proven mathematically, not so much my opinion.

No SD card. No notification light.

So.... not trying to beat down the Nexus S here, but when you say, "The benefits of owning google's flagship device out weighs anything the EVO 3D has to offer," I have to strongly disagree.

Well I am buying 4 of them. So I would rather not give out an interest free $400 loan with no expectations about when this device will be launched, or even how much it will end up costing me.

Sprint just needs to tell me when this device will be released and how much it will cost, and then I can plan accordingly. That seems like a pretty reasonable request to me.

You never know... HTC changed their bootloader policy because of what people were saying online. So maybe Sprint will see all this release date talk and throw us a bone.

I can see where buying 4 at one shot would make it difficult! I suppose your only other option would be to order the phone on the store's website if you're out of town. I can imagine that causing a problem if you have to enter 4 gift card numbers (as opposed to having the full amount on one gift card).

You can always plan for different scenarios, but i'm sure you'd rather just know!

I also have a trip in late June. I won't be back until early July. This is why I can't preorder until I know the date. If Sprint doesn't do something quick, I think people will start looking at other phones soon to come out. If we have waited this long we can wait until something better comes out.

IMHO, this will be the next phone I will have for at least another year, so its my only option, and I have a full upgrade, to me no sprint phone will be better then the evo 3d, am curious about the photon 4g by Motorola, but the evo 3d is # 1 on my radar

Nope. ;)

There's time, and one or two others already hit, like Sprint getting the iPhone. :D

I'm also a little curious about the Photon 4G and a possible Nexus 3 coming to Sprint first. This why I want them to get the EVO 3D out soon so I can forget about he other phones. But as we get closer to the release of other phones, it makes you start to think about waiting so you can compair.

I really want a Nexus phone. I've got my sights set on the SGSII right now but if the SGSII comes out in November, then the Nexus 3 comes out in December. One more month? I could wait. Now if the SGSII comes out earlier (like September) I'll just jump the gun and grab it.

I took the GF to BB to port her TMobile number to my account. After talking to the regional manager I got her a Evo 4G for 50 bucks. Mind you I paid 200 on release day.

After talking to the guy the 3D came up. Talked about preordering it.Then I threw out the specs and how I love them but not a fan of the 3D stuff. He stopped me to say "Wait, dont preorder it. Wait until September." He wouldn't give me much more info. I said well I hope it's an HTC phone. He smiled and said I wont be disappointed.

He went on to say boy genius has been leaking info on it. According to him the phone is coming to all carriers as well. Take it for what it's worth but for him to talk me out of the 3D preorder/sale means something.

Oh btw he said the Evo 3D was being released on June 24th to BB. He told me that before finding out about some new phone in the pipes.

Just what I was told. Take it however you want.

Sounds like iPhone 4S. There were already rumors that it was coming to Sprint and Tmobile, so I that's what I think he's talking about, but me, being on the 3GS for 2 years will still get the Evo 3D.

Except he said it was HTC Phone. Only thing is he didnt mention if it as Android or Windows. I assume Android though because of us talking about the Evo 4g and 3D. I have no interest in the iPhone.

I know the waiting is difficult but I as I am happy with my EVO 4G I know I'll be getting an excellent product and it will be well worth the wait. :)

Meh, if I wait until september then I can wait until november/december and if I can wait until then I may as well wait until march or april and if I can wait until then I may as well wait until...........etc. Bro, if you want the 3d then get it, if you want to wait then wait but don't spend too much time waiting because the next big thing will always be just a few months away.

Like I said the 3D is not for me. I love the specs but 3D is a gimmick to me and will congest the phone and eventually lead to lag etc. I'm passing on the 3D. Gonna wait a while besides I can't complain about my current Evo. Gonna see what's in store later on down the line. Still interested in how everyone else likes the 3D when it comes out. I hope it is as good as everyone is expecting as well.
