3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

it could be worse! like for those of us in the UK, we have to wait till july 11th (which is just a rumoured date) and have to pay extremely inflated prices for the phone when it does in fact arrive :(
My Hero is tired...and can't take much more. She needs a break now :)

A Sprint Rep said that Father's Day was very close to the release date. He clearly knew the date.

Oh and did Sprint sell the Evo exclusively last year for a week (no BB or RS release till a week later)? If they did, then it all makes perfect sense. a BB rep said that the Evo 3D was coming out on the 24th for them. If Sprint got it on the 17th, they would get the FD weekend sales, and sell to people before they go on trips. (I have one on the 19th)

I recall receiving my EVO from Best Buy last year on June 4th along with everyone else from other stores.

coincidentally, so is mine! the fact that i never rooted it and it's a laggy mess doesn't help either :o

x3

I just found LockPicker to remove the Exchange lock screen and authentication. It's a lot faster now, no longer totally dogged out, it was a brick before. It took me 12 tries to get the keyboard to populate the login field the other day, total mess with that crap. Constant low space indicator is killing me, can't update any apps without that thing showing again.

Hey guys, tried to find this myself, but didn't turn up anything conclusive. So any help would be appreciated :)

1. Can the Evo 3D use data and voice simultaneously?
- I'm thinking about switching from AT&T, but this would be a serious point of consideration for me.

2. Does the Evo 3D have a notification light?
- Again, love the notification LED on my Atrix.

3. Can I turn the screen to 2D out of preference or to save battery?
- I thought I read something about being able to do that, can someone please confirm?

Thanks guys!

Oh, anyone in Boston/Cambridge area want to let me know how is Sprint's signal around there? Moving up in the fall for school :)

haha, seems as if there's quite a few of us suffering under old hardware! i wish 'the powers that be' would have pity and release this phone already! (on both sides of the atlantic!)

it's gonna be the first time i'll actually have a new, cutting edge phone. i've always wondered what that felt like ;)

1. Not like AT&T - if you have WiMAX (4G) or wifi available, then yes - if just basic 3G, then no.

2. Pretty sure.

3. The screen is 2D by default and only switches to 3D (automatically) when playing 3D movies or games or viewing 3D pictures.

Since the other questions were answered, I'll address this one.

Sprint rocks in Boston and metro area.

Boston/Cambridge is my old school stomping grounds.... what school?

damn. had I known, i'd have just recommended you guys the regular ol' Evo. I can't even comprehend the amount of jaw droppage on your faces when you guys get the 3vo.

Thanks for addressing that question! I heard AT&T was much worse than Verizon in terms of reception and connection there, but didn't know about Sprint.

Going to HBS in the fall, mainly concerned about connectivity in the lecture halls and maybe some parts of the basement :)

Although I want it NOW I suspect it'll come out on the 24th.

Either the 17th weekend or 24th weekend works out well for me.

If it's the 17th, I'll go get it that day and come home and tell my 2 year old son, "look what you bought daddy for fathers day".

If it's the 24th then I'll go get it that day and come home and tell my wife, "look what you bought me for my birthday".

:D

Haha it's almost like torture having this hero...I almost jumped ship to an evo back in January, but I told myself it it was sold out i'd just wait for the next best phone...I can't wait for the 3D(I didn't know that I could be this patient)

Same here, only my BD is sandwiched between the two, and I've already pullled that "look what you've got me..." when I pre-ordered. But I really do need a tie rack. really. Stop laughing. really. :D

Oh, I know, or at least I think I do. I've been saliviating over the EVO for sometime now, but decided to wait, for some strange, inexplicable reason... :o

All of Harvard is covered by 4G. Was the first location that I noticed I had 4G connectivity, actually. Don't know if the 4G will make it into the basements, or 3G for that matter. But I would hope you'd have a wifi hotspot that you can have access to down there. Once on wifi, you can be on the phone and have data, as others have said. Grats on getting in :)

According to your post, he did not say it is an HTC phone, he said "you won't be disappointed". It's possible he said that because he assumed you'd automatically want an iPhone if it were available on Sprint. I mean, everyone wants an iPhone, right??

Pure speculation, of course.
But I did say I hope it was an similar or better spec'd HTC Phone. That's when he said "You wont be disappointed." Also he was carrying an Evo and I was talking about how much I loved the phone but technology moves so quick.

Fwiw I don't experience this with my EVO4G. I record video on it all the time and when I play it for others they are impressed with the quality of the video and the phone's performance.
I recorded one just this weekend of our lab when he found a box turtle in the yard. Playback would stutter and lag some. It reminded me of watching a webcam or something.

Thank you :)

When I went to Boston College for law school, I dated someone at Harvard. I don't remember ever having any signal issues hanging out with her.

Haha, and now we have anecdotal evidence!

Sounds like he's talking bout the htc kingdom. That's been talked about a lot online.

I was going to mention did anyone else get the Sprint email, since it says look for updates coming real soon, also whats with the RS deal having it come preloaded with Green Hornet and the Sprint email saying its coming with Spiderman 3D game?
