(moved posts) Is it ok to put out wireless tether info?

lol like i said i could careless one way or the other. I just wanted to post the link...

but uhhh...yeah isn't the link pretty good evidence of an actual crackdown? lol

Its evidence they're making it more difficult.

There is little (if any) credible evidence they're actually "punishing" anyone doing it.

Oh for the love of god. Lets just make tethering taboo just like we did with kids and sex education in schools. Don't talk about it, ignore it and it will go away, SSSHHHHHH!.....lol.

If you want to tether, pay the $20 a month
If you don't, don't complain when verizon terminates your service
and charges you the $300+ ETF

this has been beaten to death. Stop Illegally tethering

Two gigabytes of data is no where near enough for a lot of users.

Also, 20 bucks is a rip off.

So i'm there reading the news for the day, and slam, verizon is cracking down on illegal tethering. This has came along ways. Some beg ta differ but, what are the chances of other companies taking part on what seems to be a entrapment on those of us that enjoy our phones this way? Is this the end of fun or the beginnings of a new cyber revolution?

Once tiered data goes into effect wireless tether will be a moot point...nobody will want to exceed data caps.

Still waiting for my refund check for all the Wi-Fi i use that doesn't consume ANY data from my plan, which, BTW includes 3 droids and a laptop that ALL have "unlimited" data plans. I should hold my breath until the check comes to my mailbox...

Beaten to death on both sides, so lets try to think of some different solutions plz :)

I would assume almost everyone uses tethering just when needed, not as ISP replacement. Now for anyone that wishes to use tethering for a few mins a day or at most 1-2 hrs per month $20 is just ridiculous. The way to satisfy both Verizon and people tethering would be a chuck of tethering included with a data plan, say half a gig to a gig.

If this solution was applied i think this board would be become 95% nice again ;)

I've tethered twice, when my cable went down. That said, it isn't illegal. My contract if for unlimited data access, and it predates any official tether policies from vzw. I don't use the option, but I'll fight for my right to retain it. Many people paid for tether apps. Unless verizon feels like reimbursing them....

please...i bet that 90% of people that pay for unlimited data use less than 1GB of data per month...

Except we're all grandfathered into unlimited.

Probably.
until you want to upgrade your device and don't want to pay retail...

frankly...if you're that interested in "getting what you pay for" in regards to your service and plan...turn off wifi...

And of course they would have to raise the rates for that. You think they are gonna include that for free out of the kindness of their hearts?....lol.......hell no.

I wouldn't be too sure about that Met. You gotta admit, this little dx with all it's apps can suck up a good portion of data with just apps connecting to the net and updating themselves all the time in the background. Combine that with your normal internet usage and downloading, you could easily use that much data in one month.

they let the Thunderbolt free tether for a month and a half i believe, i dont see why a little amount seems so preposterous.

Am I the only one who's easytether pro still works? I only use it to hook my laptop up for some radar when Im storm chasing occasionally, nothing that would warrant me paying $ 20 a month to verizon...

Sorry if the sarcasm didn't translate, I was trying (weakly) to illustrate how futile it is to argue with a company that is able to make the rules as it goes along, I wouldn't ask for a refund.
The problem is: people tend to get into the "buffet mentality", they think that just since the sign says "al you can eat", it would be ok to bring a bucket for take-out.
Pay for what you use, I pay for way more than I use so it doesn't become a problem if there is an emergency requiring more usage. Before you say that it won't happen, it did happen and I was rather pleased it saved my ass.

Not even close, man. This horse has been beaten into mush long ago. There is no free lunch, and tethering is not free any longer. Somebody used it too much and f-d it up for everybody else. end of story.

1. go and look at your data usage on verizonwireless.com...see what it is for the month so far

2. Forum users like us make up a very small percentage of "enthusiast" users...there are vastly more people out there with Droid X's that have never even thought to visit a forum like this...the users here are not in any way a representation of the average user...

3. i totally stand by my original statement...im VERY confident that the vast majority of those that pay for unlimited data use less than 1GB of data per month...

everyone is afraid of tiered data plans...when in reality tiered data will probably save the VAST majority of subscribers money...because they will pay for what they use...

Yet another thread gonna be merged into the same thread in the "Suggestion box". Talk about beating a dead horse. If you wanna discuss this issue? Please go over there, because I'll just keep movin' and merging these threads. k? :)
