Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

Gps shows on when off.

My understanding is that GPS will pop on automatically if accessing a location-aware app, then turn off when the app closes (a battery saving feature of 2.3.x). Can you confirm whether any apps are open that might trigger this? Perhaps the status "off" is a hard setting only and doesn't update? Just a thought.

If there is new update. Nothing as of yet. But I highly doubt there will be one
Yea, I'm sure there won't be one.
1. Some "random" guy said there'd be one. Sprint and HTC haven't said anything on their Facebook accounts about it, and they would've.
2. Last time I was able to download it at 9:00 am sharp (When HQ opened for the day) why would it change now?

I was just looking forward to seeing what they've changed basically. I love change, so I always get excited about it.

For those of you that are upset about not getting the Gingerbread keyboard:
Search for "Gingerbread Keyboard Steven Lin" in the Marketplace. There's a free version, and a paid one. I'm a "ain't broke, don't fix it" type of person usually, but this keyboard rocks.

ROTFLMAO McEvo! I had the same response, and did the same thing! I ignored my intuition and common sense, and jumped in to the software update with both feet. Admittedly, it WAS two in the morning, but that is really no excuse for me. I now have no more wireless n and I am annoyed as heck!

EarlyMon, I did a hard factory reset, and I STILL have no wireless n anymore. To me, this IS a major software faux pas. Of course, you are correct in saying that whether Sprint views it the same way is something else all together.

I would like to slit my own throat since I am one of those whose wireless n no longer works. I care about nothing else on this phone (really, anything else could have borked and I would not care), so I sure wish I could have been one of the lucky ones whose wireless n is still good.

Sounds like you're in a tight fix, WickedGirl! :(

When you say wireless - voice, 3G, 4G or wifi?

If wifi - please reset your home router - that will cure about 95+% of those cases.

If phone-radio related (in fact, do this in either case): go to homescreen -> menu -> settings -> update and manually update PRL and then Profile.

Let me know what happens - and, even if the reason is really sucky for you, Welcome to the forums!

How do we know if Sense updated with Gingerbread? How do I interrogate my EVO to find out what version of Sense is operating?

SFAIK, you cannot.

In our case, it's by socializing what feature changes we see.

Sense 3 has a rotating carousel effect when scrolling home screens.

Sense 2 includes the ability to access services found on htcsense.com.

This is mostly a refinement of Sense with a feature or two from higher revisions.

In an odd turnabout for anyone in the industry, a few months ago, HTC publicly stated they were going to stop using revision numbers because they didn't like the way the public was reacting. As I recall (could be wrong) - they number by feature set, people are perceiving it a quality thing. I can't find the link so I may have the reasoning wrong.

Has anyone tried a factory reset after backing everything up to see if that works. That's what all the knowledgeable folks keep telling us to do, but no one has posted that they did one yet. I'm gonna do one this weekend when I have time to do it.

Go to settings, applications, storage use, htc sense. It will show you the version number there or you can also click "about" and it's there too.

Lots of people have done this. They've mentioned it in this thread and in PMs to me.

Some have problems remaining, but for the vast majority - those with update/install issues related to Android's virtual memory (Dalvik cache/data, cache especially) - it's the cure.

Ill read through again earlymon, I saw a bunch of posts where people said they did hard resets and fixed or still had issues but not any on doing a factory reset. Unless they are saying hard reset when referring to a factory reset. If that's the case then that's why I'm confused cuz a hard reset means removing power by unplugging or pulling a battery. That's what it always was when I worked for dish network and at&t tech support, or any other time I've called for tech support.

Ill read through again.

In our case, hard reset means the same as factory reset - I prefer to use the latter term because it's clear.

When we want to refer to unconditional ram clearing, we refer to what you call a hard reset in your field by its action name: a battery pull.

So has anybody gotten the "new" update that BlueScreen was claiming would be coming out today? I haven't seen anything. Just curious.

Hey all, just wondering if anyone else has been having issues streaming Pandora/music/video after the GB update? If so, has anyone tried to zero out the HTTP PD Proxy Port and Address to see if this corrects the problems as in the previous software versions (3.70.blah blah blah) "fix"? If not I'll be the guinea pig I suppose... :)

I haven't heard of a fix to it, but I've read on here that the update ****ed up Pandora.

Yeah I haven't got any update like blue screen claimed either :( :( :( :( :( and the voicemail icon issue everyone was talking about finally came on my evo today about an hour ago!! So besides no netflix now I cant get rid of the damn voice mail icon at the top of my screen like everyone else!!! Fml screw gingerbread!!!! This needs fixed bad there is so many issues and if Google or Sprint don't do something then clearly we see where we stand as evo owners and customers!!!!

There was an update for the Google compass app the other day for "gingerbread compatability", lol. It sorta works now, but Sky is still wonky. Starting to sound like Bill. :)
