BTW, I can play High@L4.1 video on my Galaxy Tab, normal speed, no stuttering or freezing. However, this is 720p. I'll see if I have any 1080p material to test with.

The 3VO is going to be a top 3 phone of 2011, and maybe even the number 1 if the 3D trend continues the way it has.
The SGSII may have more storage space, and the AMOLED Plus display, but I think that with the combination of HTC Sense 3.0, 3D technology, 4G on Sprints WIMAX network, 1.2 dual core snapdragon processor, shipping with Android 2.3.3 and later upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich, & a huge 1730 mAh Li-Ion battery.
has there been a carrier announced yet for the SGSII?
I have seen VZW, Sprint, & ATT all thrown around on blogs and articles, but i haven't heard any official info yet.
Is that for the 'diary confessions'?Did anyone watch the review posted, the SGS II doesnt record video on the front camera.
...the SGS II doesnt record video on the front camera.
... is it humanly possible the s2 WON'T have 4g? Don't you all find that highly unlikely?
In the question of 3VO vs SGSII
...
I have come to a personal conclusion that the relationship that Sprint and HTC have is just too solid, and HTC is too well reviewed of a company to put out a lackluster phone as their new flagship model. The 3VO is going to be a top 3 phone of 2011, and maybe even the number 1 if the 3D trend continues the way it has. The SGSII may have more storage space, and the AMOLED Plus display, but I think that with the combination of HTC Sense 3.0, 3D technology, 4G on Sprints WIMAX network, 1.2 dual core snapdragon processor, shipping with Android 2.3.3 and later upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich, & a huge 1730 mAh Li-Ion battery, HTC might just have the perfect storm as far as upgrading the world renowned EVO 4G.
... But The SGSII is the clear winner for me with the Super Amoled Plus, 1.2 ghz exynos processor, significantly lighter and thinner, TouchWiz 4.0, 8-mp cam with 1080p recording, 2-mp front cam, significantly more internal storage, significantly more video playback codecs, possible 4G, possible NFC, shipping with Android 2.3.3, upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich and a huge 1650 mAh that still most likely will last longer than the 3vo's.
Regarding previous comment on 4g, I know it hasn't been announced, but is it humanly possible the s2 WON'T have 4g? Don't you all find that highly unlikely? I don't even plan on running 4G much anyway tho, in an effort to conserve battery life. I wish 'premium data' was an option w/ Sprint. That is one additional charge I'm not looking forward to.
Shipping w/ v2.3.3 when 2.3.4 is out isn't cool tho.
And this is why Android is awesome, because choice > all. We have all these great manufacturers putting out awesome phones throughout the year, and everyone can choose the device that they like the most.
Personally, I has super excited when the SGII was first announced and I read the glowing review on Engadget. But now that I've compared the specs to the EVO 3D, and without going through a comparison of all the specs again, it is > than the GSII for me.
One thing on the weight and feel though: just looking at the specs online on weight (116g vs 170g) and thickness (8.5mm vs 12mm), I got the impression that the EVO 3D would be way too thick and heavy. But in actuality, I much prefer the weight and feel of the EVO 4G (same thickness and weight as the 3vo) than the weight and feel of the Galaxy S (same weight as GSII). The EVO just felt soo solid in my hand and the Galaxy S felt like a plastic toy. Granted, these aren't the exact phones we are comparing, but should be very similar in terms of weight and feel.
I don't think the GSII will have 4G. One, it hasn't been announced at all, and you'd think it would because it is a big feature. And two, I don't think it's possible to squeeze in the 4G radio in that 8.5mm body, since those things take up a good amount of space from my (very limited) understanding.
AFAICT, almost all h.264 content online is high profile, not just scene (mkv container is largely scene only); youtube HD is one blatant example. it also uses CABAC.
I know the Nexus S 4G is WiMax. Isn't the Epic 4G WiMax too?Have there been other WiMax Samsung phones?
@stlc8tr: in short, no.
I can't really imagine a time when I would want to record video on the front camera.
No, I don't think it is possible that Sprint would essentially downgrade a premium phone by not including the 4G radio in the required specs for the Samsung Within. The phone would be written off by most customers.
Because HTC doesn't put any value in multicodec support. And it's not just high profile that's the issue -- the Sensation can't play mkv natively at all. Nor can it play Divx. It can play mp4 files like the Evo and has Xvid support, but as a video player, it pales in comparison to the S2. I'm not sure if rockplayer or moboplayer can play 720p mkv files on the Sensation. Why in the world would Qualcomm leave out high profile H264 decoding for their flagship Snapdragon?
I know the Nexus S 4G is WiMax. Isn't the Epic 4G WiMax too?
EDIT: I know the Samsung sph-d600 coming on Sprint is WiMax too.
All sprint 4g phones are WiMax and all will be WiMax unless they switch to LTE.
Sprint not releasing any details on the Within is going to hurt sales. I for one, cannot wait for a phone that we don't have a solid release date one, especially when we don't know for sure if there will be 4g on it. I asked the sprint rep today and they said "the what, what is that"? I just can't wait. The 3D will have 30 days to let me down enough to change my mind.
