Eris to v2.x, when?

If it's OTA, probably not. Someone will have to download it and then upload it to that site, right? But I don't think anyone can get it early, say if they're lower on the list for getting the updates. Or not at least without a root. Which isn't here.

My personal opinion of the 2.x release will be on the 22nd. The date Jan 22nd has been around for almost 2 months now and since then there have been a few minor updates yet there wasn't any big deal about the dates surrounding the other updates. HTC has the most Android phones out there and are the manufacture who is making "The Google Phone" the Nexus One. They probably have more experience with the OS then any other company and they already have 2.x on their other phones. Since I bet a lot of there phones use similar parts, they can probably port the OS to any of their phones without much work. When it comes to Sense UI, most of it is a skin for the main page and the rest are the small apps like footprints that go along with it. They probably just needed time to make sure everything worked without a hiccup before sending it out, plus you need the carriers approval. This will probably the largest OTA update ever done on Verizon and some of the delay might be just Verizon making sure their servers are set up for the update along with having their technical staff trained to handle any problems. When HTC said that it might be from late Jan to early Feb, that could also mean that it is not rolling out to everyone at once but that the first people will get it on the 22nd and continue over the next week or so as not to overwhelm the system

The 1/22 update will be a continuation of the updates done on 12/11.

After we all get the 2.x update, our next jumping-up-and-down-and- hollering thread will be WHERE'S MY ROOT!!! ;)

I believe that is a personal matter and should be discussed with your doctor.

I also hear that there are pills for it now too. ;)

The "PCD" site is affiliated with HTC in some way or other. In fact, one of the pieces of paperwork that came in my phone's box had that logo (and name, Personal Communication Devices ?) on it.

Is the Hero rooted? If it is and it moves to 2.1, does it need to be rooted again, like the iPhones need to be? If so, why would there be something for the Hero and not for the Eris?

Ummmmm ... is it Friday yet? ... I really think it should be ... I would like an update to my Eris please ...

But then again, what are we going to pine after once it does come?

2.0 / 2.1 -- since this patch isn't going to be a full OS update.

If I had to just name one thing.

Ok, guys. Got an update from VZW, which still doesn't mean anything. But what the hell, I tried.

This is what I had initially sent her:

I had a question regarding the Droid Eris. I was wondering if you knew when the 2.1 update was going to be released for the Eris by HTC? I read that it was Q1 of this year, but I don't know what that means. Could you possibly give me a range of dates (or better yet, a specific one, though that seems unlikely) on when to expect this update? It will be the deal-breaker on whether I switch from T-Mobile to Verizon for the Eris or AT&T for the iPhone as I think the features on 2.1 according to Google are better, but I don't want to be stuck waiting. Please help me with whatever information you can provide me as I wish to make the decision within the next two days, and if there is any uncertainty on whether the Eris gets 2.1 or not, I would probably go with the iPhone and wait for, perhaps, the Nexus One on Verizon.
Please let me know ASAP. I appreciate any information you may have for me as I want an Android phone and VZW service, but I have been due for an upgrade for the past six months, but have waited for something better from T-Mobile but got nothing. This Eris looks like the best phone for me, but 1.5 will not cut it for me.
Thanks

Why, Tykeesha? Why can't you tell me? Boost my spirits and expectations? It was supposed to be out by January when I was asking around before I bought my phone mid-November!

Still, this should confirm that the 22nd is probably not the time for 2.1. Perhaps February 12th, or whatever that date was, might be a better shot.

I still do have one sent to HTC themselves, but....probably more of the same. I'll have that up as soon as they respond.

Ok ok, I want the 2.0 update as much as the next Eris owner, for Google maps navigator. But what else would be coming that is so great to warrant the biggest thread on the Eris forum?

The ease in which you can choose the means of connecting with a contact. Watch the video on 2.0 on Android's website. It'll show you. Google Goggles is gonna be one hell of an app. And When we're at 2.0, a whole new world opens up in the marketplace.....well, we'll have access to more apps.

EDIT: Is there going to be voice-texting on 2.1? Where I speak my message to my friends and it just types it out for me? And I'm talking from Android itself, not those third-party apps.

Leo Laporte said, on the latest episode of This week in Google, that 2.1 has voice typing anywhere where there is a keyboard.

I saw a video of them testing this on the nexus one, and it was no where close to being accurate : (

On another note, just curious...where is everyone getting this Feb 12th date from??

Not sure. After this email I got, I doubt even February 12th is a plausible date, at least for 2.1. Perhaps another update prepping for 2.1. Who's to say the one due tomorrow is for 2.1 and not for something stupid like the YouTube fix last week?
