Netflix on Froyo!

BUT...has anyone been able to get Netflix to actually stream on their Charge even by rooting?

I returned my Revolution (which I bought solely for that purpose), but it had too many other issues.

Thanks
S

No luck so far. Me thinks samsung wants you to buy into their media package instead of netflix. Too bad.
Wow I was actually considering this phone. Not now though. Not until it can do Netflix.

ThunderBolt Rooted with GingerBread Rom.... Here I come. LOL

Good luck with that. I just came from a TB to a Charge and I'm not looking back for a second. That phone has way too many problems and the battery sucks.

I will gladly take no Netflix (if it ends up that way) and take the better phone instead.

Yea it would be nice to have, but in all honesty during the 4 weeks I had it on my DX I never watched one movie with it.

I was just gonna say, it seems more like a novelty to me. Even though the Charge has a "big" screen at 4.3" for a cell phone, I still can't wrap my head around watching a movie on that small of a screen.

I don't travel a lot for business or anything, so maybe that's why I can't understand it. But I don't think I would ever use it to be honest.

All Right yall Try this one.
This is the Newest Netflix App that works. It is the Official Netflix app. Netflix relented and made the app work for the Majority of all Android.

Please post feed back this will greatly influence my next purchase.

This even works for the LG Ally so I would think it could work for yall.

Also How hard is it to Root the Charge?

As soon as i log in the program shuts off. So no it doesnt work

Now maybe this is like the problem that the Thunderbolt was having. At first they couldn't do Netflix. As soon as they Got a working 2.3 Gingerbread Rom It worked like a charm. So Curious what OS y'all runnin

Just got off the phone with Netflix to verify what I've been told about 2.3 and Netflix...

Netflix stated they have 12 phones they are currently working on to get Netflix working once 2.3 is pushed out, HOWEVER it's up to the manufacturer of the phone whether it will work.

WHY does everything have to be so secretive with this crap? Before I spend money on a phone, I'd like to know what will/will not work so I can make an informed choice.

Sorry to rant, but just one more thing that's starting to piss me off about all the phones they're cranking out.

I really think samsung is blocking it. It seemed to go through the same active/dissapear process that with wireless tether app. I bet they are trying to push their media hub app instead which would be obsolete with netflix. Think of how many of us have signed up for VZ naviagator with google navigation for free...

Although it is not netflix, megaviewer (paid app) seem to work pretty well instead.
Well with my above post I believe that Netflix would work. It worked on my Phone which is not a DC.

However what is Megaviewer? How good is it.
Is it compareable to say Hulu?

Is no one going to try this?
If you have it installed uninstall.
Now Modify the Build.prop
Reboot
Install .apk
Enjoy!! :D

This manipulation of the Build.prop file has been tried over and over...even released on XDA's site as a download, so I know it doesn't do anything except on phones that are approved for Netflix but just waiting for 2.3.

I personally have tried it on 3 phones and it doesn't work.

Thanks though.

Hmm So weird.
It works on mine. Seems like so many are having trouble with it.
I guess I am one of the lucky ones.
What Processor do yall have?
Is it Quallcom?

Now when I say it worked.... heh well it lags a little and is practically in black and white. Now this doesent bother me but I am sure it would bother most people.

But my phone is an ancient slow poke. Yalls is the cutting edge. I am just trying to help yall get Netflix so as when its time for me to upgrade well I will have another option.

All I really would like to have is a phone with flash, Netflix, An HDMI port, Wireless tether... and a bunch of Root goodies.

So hopefully yall will get Netflix when 2.3 comes to you.
Sorry nothing I said worked.

After being SWORN to by the VZW store manager that with the 2.3 rollout for the Droid Charge Netflix would start working, I decided to call Netflix direct and verify it.

They had a WHOLE different story. It's not up to the individual carriers, rather the manufacturers of the phone on whether they will allow it because of certain contractual obligations they may have with Blockbuster or others. According to the tech at Netflix, the Charge is not on the list of 12 phones they are working on at this time. Instead they are focusing on the LG, HTC and EVO that are either out or soon to be released.

He did say that it's a possibility, but not something happening this summer. /sigh

I'm beginning to take every word or promise coming from VZW as bull$hit just so they can sell phones and get commission.

Well I hear what your saying however the Nexus S is a Samsung Phone.
I would think if it were a manufacturer thing that the Nexus S would not have it.

I dunno I am just thinkin outloud.

But your right VZW doesnt know anything however neither do the Netflix reps.

I asked a long time ago about my phone to Netflix... He said "oh yes all Androids will be able to use the app. If we could put Netflix on your toaster we would." LOL what ever

Never ever trust what a salesperson or VZ CS rep has to say. They know far less than folks who read these forums.

SWC Megaviewer seems to work like Napster. It does not store the movies but when you search it will tell you where you can stream them. Press the button and they appear. Only down side is you cannot FF or rewind. But it is only a one time fee for the app as opposed to the Netflix monthly fee.
