Root How to do lte/cdma update! Genuine!

Newbie
Hey guys! sorry for the excitement, but i just found out how to force the update onto our Indulges!

(I'd like to thank all of you for the effort on this phone, in regards to rooting and ROMs, so this is me giving a little back.)

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DECENT BATTERY POWER, YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR PHONE TO SHUT DOWN WHEN UPDATING, THE CONSEQUENCES ARE UNKNOWN.

First, some background:
I got my Indulge on june 8th, after my Ascend fell into a pool, the first thing I did was come into these forums, and Root it.

Then I found out about this antenna update, which better'd reception, and some people report Longer battery life ( Which Im in dire necessity of)

So i started looking around, and reading, and basically, the update is Random(Not Anymore hehehe.)

So i started fiddling, and found out about the Hidden Menu, here is the walkthrough:

** TO DO BEFORE YOU UPDATE **

Update your PRL to at least 3019 ( Latest at the time of writing)

There are guides out there on how to do it.

**Forcing the OTA Update onto Galaxy Indulge **

1) Access Hidden Data menu (Go to phone dialer, and dial ##3282# )
You'll see a menu:
User Name
Restore
etc
etc
etc
FOTA

2) click FOTA, itll ask you for a unique (Not the universal) SPC this is how you find it:

a)Go to the Market
b)Look for MEID
c)Download MEID Converter ( By Ghassan Idriss )
d)Go to Settings>About Phone>Status
e)Copy the full number under IMEI (on paper or w.e)
f)Open MEID Calculator, and enter your IMEI (They're Unique)
g)Get SPC and copy it down (It's 6 Digits)

Now go back to ##data# hidden menu ( ##data# translates to##3282#)

Go to FOTA and enter your SPC.

Now Youll see another Menu, do the following (In order):

1) Select "Retry Timer", Youll see things like Critical Retry, Major Retry, etc... Remove the last TWO ZEROS from each number( I.E Critical retry is by default 300000, make it 3000) FOR EVERY OPTION, then press OK.

2) now go to DM Acount, you should see metropcs, touch and HOLD IT until a pop-up appears, click "Activate", now click and HOLD again, then press "Start DM"

3) This will send you back to your Main Screen.

now, SET YOUR PHONE DOWN, DO NOT TRY TO DO ANYTHING ON IT!

Give it a few seconds, (took about 30 for me)

and Your phone will give you the Update message!

Let it update, it'll reboot, and you're done!

Good luck, And I'd like to see some feedback, if it works with everyone else.

Hooray!

EDIT: Give credit where it's due, If you want to repost it anywhere ( Howard Forums, XDA, etc... Make sure you link to this, and give credit)

Thanks for not giving me credit for finding this (sarcasm)

It only works if your account has already been marked to receive the update. You wont get it if your not part of the current upgrade group.

You dont need to update the PRL before hand. 3018 works just fine.

You dont need to adjust the retry settings if you show a 1x or LTE icon at the top.

You can get your SPC by putting your "IMEI" into www.checkesnfree.com or by simply running "getprop ril.MSL" from ADB shell or a terminal app on the phone

Can someone give the numbers we should have for each value after removing the zeroes..I'm wondering if this is keeping my Indulge from updating..thanks..

Yes absolutely Ciper! You discovered all the Hidden Menus ^.^

The reason I changed up the Retry Times is because they were set at 300,000 ms, which is 300 seconds = 5 minutes, just in case it couldnt reach the server the first time around,

by reducing it ( Essentially dividing by 100) by two decimal places, Im simply making sure that the phone retries almost immediatly in case it fails the first time around.

I'm not sure wether you have to be on their list or not, as yesterday I received a text message offering Instructions on the (Long-Awaited) 2.2 Update for my Ascend, so In their books, I still had my Ascend.

Ciper:

Also, the SPC can be found in a Variety of ways, I didnt know about the website solution, I used the simplest available.

As for the PRL, I'm not sure, but its always a good thing to do anyways, Keep up with all the towers and get the Most out of the update ^.^

@Shatterproof

Make sure you follow all the steps, and SET YOUR PHONE DOWN! I did it twice, and thought it didnt work, because everytime i selected Start DM my phone would go to the Main screen, and i just thought it was bugged out, dont even unlock the screen if it locks, give it a minute or so,

best of luck!

So none of this stuff we're doing really matters if we're not marked to receive the update, right?

It started working 4 me but then it said update failed
Now you're phone is stuck in a half upgraded state. The only way to fix it and get future updates is to trade the phone in for a refurb.

Check under Settings - About Phone
I bet you have Basebade CDMA EE07, LTE ED15 but build number EA29

And that is exactly why I dont suggest everyone to do this unless they have reinstalled all of the bloatware (essentially making the phone back to stock)

My phone is rooted and bloatware removed and I still got the complete upgrade. Build number: EE07

Update worked flawlessly!! Had to try a second time to get it going.
Just for reference I'm from the 209 area. I might be the first one getting the update cause I haven't heard of anyone else getting it around here! :)

Well, I was about to post that I just received my update and look what I found: a way to force it!!! Oh, the irony.
But yes, I did just receive the update, it just took over and did it's thing. Creepy thing is it put the phone on silence, so if I was asleep, I would not have heard a thing! And then, after it rebooted, it put it back on ring mode... Creepy.

Well, for all who care to know, I'm in the 407 area code.

represent ya area code lol 813 sorry got my update automatically as soon as they announced there was going to be an update :D

ok how will I know if my phone is already updated or not. Can someone post the procedure to check current version of OS/ROM etc. Is it Settings->About Phone?

My Firmware version is 2.2.1
Baseband ...EE07
LTE: ...ED15
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Build ...EE07

Am I up to date?

Yes you are :D

I jus forced the update to my phone and everything went well.... the only thing that got improved was my 4g signal. Everything else still sucks. Battery still dies fast, phone still takes forever to charge and the phone still over heats.... what should I do now... and I live in south Florida....

My phone was stock, and the update still failed. You were right about baseband and build number, though. Will there ever be a way to remedy this?
