How does this app market business work?

Why are certain countries limited to what they can download from the app market?

And how can i tell what market my phone is searching from?
And lastly can i change it?

thanks

I bought the phone from a website in hong kong, so assuming a hk phone but i live in uk.

so does that mean i am browsing the hong kong apps market?
i see some chinese apps on there. or am i seeing uk apps as i am on uk network?

you are seeing uk apps, but yes the market is limited for some countrys. For example some cannot see paid apps. However the UK isn't one of them.

The version of android your phone runs also limits the apps you can see. You may not be able to see some apps if you have a lower version of android.

oh ok, so it depends what network u are on?

it just puzzled me why i can see so many chinese and japanese apps on there.

thanks

This thread touches an interesting issue.

 How can you tell which market you're on? If you have a contract in country A and travel to country B, what market do you see? What happens when paid apps are supported in A/B but not in B/A?

 Also, where is the "authoritative" list of countries where paid apps are supported, and the ditto list of reasons why elsewhere they're not? Some of us are reeaally tired of being in the dark (guess which kind of country I'm in)...
