Help Potentially dangerous heat problem.

This phone is turning out to be a lemon.

It's a bit lame for sure - but what do you expect from a dual core phone that's as slim as this?
As per usual, the race to get the best specs has been won at the cost of decent QA and testing.

Never mind Samsung - you got your users to sort the last Galaxy out, this will be no different.

i have spoke to the tech team of Samsung-India . they informed me that the dual core process is placed on the above of the battery . so it was quite naturally for them. hoe ever i'm too scared as now days i'm afraid to play games.

It isn't a acceptable response to tell you how the phone is manufactured or designed and that it is normal. It is normal that when I hit the phone with a hammer for it to shatter. Doesn't mean taking a hammer to a phone is a great idea does it. However I'm beginning to wonder.

If customer service say this is normal then it is purely a bad design fault.

Are the other dual core Android phones doing this too, or is it just the Sammy?

There is more to this than purely a design flaw in the hardware.

My phone has got very hot just once. I rebooted it and it's been fine since. I think there is an OS bug that leaves the processor at 100% for some reason and it's this that results in the over-heating.

A few people have had this problem so it certainly isn't someone's imagination, but most haven't so there must be more to it than poor design.

A quick update..took the advise of a persons recommendation to overall mybackup..then took the phone back to store to change. Got the new phone and then restored using mybackup.. All seems well..

were u downloading with ur data connection on as well? coz my phone used to get rather hot (not burning hot, though) when i was continually using 3G for a while. however, after a KF2 update, its been just getting slightly warm.. not even uncomfortably so. may i ask wat firmware ur new phone is running?

They'll probably come up with some update to (ok, I guess the pun is intended) iron out the heating problems and just have the phone go back to the homescreen when the iphone hits the fan.

Ok heres an update that I hope gives others hope experiencing overheating issues.

New replacement phone recieved and tested and so far a great difference.
To put the processor through its paces I ran spotify in the background along with youtube and began playing Order and chaos at the same time which as anyone who has played it will know is quite a cpu intense game.
The warmest the phone got was a warm glow purely from the screen and a small temp increase around the camera lens region on the rear of the phone.
Battery was fully charged and screen, and all phone settings were at default.
Wi fi reception is still questionable but never dropped out so I wont grumble.

Overall im now hopeing I can at last fully enjoy my S2 and get truly stuck in.

I bought mine yesterday and found the phone gets warm when charging and earlier I was on the phone for about 10 mins the phone got warm, much warmer than the iphone but not hot enough to the extent where I dropped the phone or burnt myself.
Still was a bit worrying.

I've noticed it gets hot (though not burningly so, for an adult at least) in the area above the battery when I play some fairly graphics intensive games (I haven't been doing a lot of that yet though), but for everything else it never seems to heat up to more than merely somewhat warm.

I don't really know what to expect in terms of heat generation from a powerful phone, as this is the first smartphone I own (although my 2nd gen iPod Touch can heat up considerably as well during gaming), but obviously PC hardware can get very hot under load, approaching 90 degrees Celsius - or even more - for some graphics cards, even with several large fans to take care of the cooling.
Obviously those numbers can't be used as an indication for hand held devices, but the fact of the matter is that powerful hardware will generate heat - often a lot of it - when under heavy load.
