I guess moto's getting tired of getting their a$$ handed to them by Samsung and HTC. Did they not realize why the OG Droid was so popular?.
Yea they know why:
Verizon's advertising, a new choice for a smart phone, good hardware, good software. And after ppl tried it, word spread that , "Hey, this is a decent phone"
Do ppl really think phones are so popular because they have open bootloaders? Did you know on the old Win Mo you didnt even have to root the phone? All you needed was a file manager. If openness made phones so popular Win Mo wouldnt be at the bottom in market share.
Busted GPS, super slow updates, bad antennas (iPhone 4) didnt hurt the sales of any phones last year. Moto being faster to update their phones than Samsung didnt help sales either. Here is how much the bootloader effects activity in the forums:
All the Galaxy S 1 forums combined: 187,000 posts - 17,000 threads.
The Droid X1 - 183,000 posts - 13,000 threads.
Nexus 1 - 39,000 posts - 3200 threads.
Nexus S - 6400 posts - 794 threads.
Droid 1 - 205,000 posts - 17,000 threads.
Bootloaders didnt increase or decease activity in the sections so much that it effected activity in the forums. I will be the first to eat crow and say I was wrong when I thought Moto didnt care enough about the minority, the root n ROM community, to unlock the bootloader. But to think bootloaders make or break sales isnt correct.
As long as they make decent phones and have decent advertising, Moto will be fine. Notice how the Droid X2 isnt even in Droid commercials yet, for some reason. I assume they are saving it to team up with the Droid 3 and Bionic.
