Let's talk cases for the HTC EVO 3D.

Now that I have the OtterBox Commuter a ridged pouch is probably out of the question for me. Usually only good for "naked" phones. Hehe... Going for a Microfiber Bag/Pouch now. Just 'cause I'm paranoid. Like the InvisiShield and Commuter isn't enough LOL

I'm slightly annoyed there are no OEM Cases or Pouches directly from HTC. I prefer OEM accessories.

The kickstand case is coming. The closest estimation on the release date is late July.

The wait sucks, but I have no doubt it will be the best case when it comes out.

Yeah, I played around with cases with my 4G (Seidio Innocase and Innocase Active), and overall I just wasn't satisfied. I didn't like the fact that with the front open, every time i put the phone in my pocket and took it out I had lint and stuff around the edges of the screen against the case. Just annoying ;)

Which is why for the 3D I've decided I'm going to go with a screen protector (like the Steinheil, something with no adhesive and is slippery), and a pocket leather pouch/messenger case like I pictured above. That way I put the phone in my pocket and it won't get lint on it, plus the case is slim and easy to put in my pocket while still protecting the device.

It's hard to find just the right case that you're happy with that's for sure!

I found a case that works for my 3D, even when it is in the Otterbox commuter. The case is made by Dickies. It's a canvas case, with a Velcro flap. I got it on Amazon for $15.77 Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042LNT8S

and here is what it looks like:
31LRLwPzf8L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

It had a huge red Dickies logo on the flap, which I have already surgically removed with a pocket knife.

This case is big enough to even fit the phone with the defender, I would guess (your experience may vary)

The only negative is it is a belt LOOP, with a clip holder that costs another $10 or so. I am using the loop no problem.

I saw that pink case online and it was like 12.99. And when I called my Sprint store I specifically asked if they had the HTC kickstand case and was told yes. Went in there to get phone and he showed the purple body glove one with the stand and that was 20 bucks in the store. But I don't like cases where across the top and bottom in the front shows. And I didn't want purple since I am getting the Seidio Active in purple when it comes out.

I've seen those at the Best Buy store across the street from my Sprint store, but they don't have a kickstand, so I'll have to pass. They're nice looking in person, but come off as a little bulky IMO. I was just there yesterday to buy Sucker Punch on blu-ray so I could upload the digital copy to my 3VO, and I noticed they had a purple Seido Active case, among other colors. They even had a big table display of 3VO accessories on sale.

Maybe in time I may buy another case for it, but for now, I have no complaints with what I have. The Body Glove fits so snug that people assume my 3VO came in that color. If there's only one complain I have about it, it's that the power button is too exposed. So when I pocket it, I always have to remember to have it face upright.

Now what I need is a leather belt case that the commuter fits into... I have checked everywhere, even Fry's. It's too big for even the generic XL android/windows leather cases.

I'm in the same boat. Right now, I'm using a soft pouch/bag I got when I bought some random trinket on personalizationmall.com. It's cumbersome though. What I want is a thin (minimal bulk- it's already protected), vertical (I despise horizontal), holster with a belt clip that will fit the phone with the Commuter. Why Otterbox wouldn't just make one is beyond me; it's guaranteed money in their pocket. Maybe they're afraid it'll eat into profits for their Defender line. But man, that Defender is just so HUGE. I also (ironically) don't like that it covers the camera lenses. The Commuter really is the perfect case for me; I just need to figure out a practical way to carry it.

I preordered the seidio active last night. Says shipping 7/8, but got an email saying it shipped and Tracking #. Saying it's in transit. Weird, but maybe they are shipping early. That otto box commuter looks nice though .. Damn.

You guys seem to have a lot of experience with cases/screen protectors...

1) I need a screen protector that will cover both the screen and the camera pod. I don't care who it's from, as long as it doesn't affect my ability to take pictures or use the touchscreen, and it's fairly cheap. (No more than $12)

2) I also need a case. I seem to have dropped my blackberry curve quite a lot, and the Samsung Intercept. With the Samsung, 99% of the drops took place no higher than 4 feet. I expect the same to be with the EVO 3D. I am looking for a case with good protection, good feel, and little bulk. I don't really want to buy a Seidio case just yet if a TPU (like this one: HTC EVO 3D High Gloss TPU Case - Smoke) will protect it well.

If you guys could help me out, I would be greatly appreciative. :D

The Otterbox Commuter case didnt fit right for me. The rubber part on the top of the phone doesnt sit flush and has a gap there. Everyone they had was like that. Didnt like it. Took it back and got the defender. Its bulky but it covers the cameras and as a a pad inside to keep from scratching the lens cover.

Mobilecityonline emailed me today and sad the white casemate pop case with the kickstand was in stock now But Casemate doesn't even list it on there site.

1. Phantom Skinz has one that covers the camera. It cost $9.95, not sure what shipping makes it.

2. I have a TPU now that I use in conjunction with the Platinum holster and it will work just as well if not better. I had a Innocase/Surface on my Evo and I dropped it and it cracked. The Active is a lot better, but adds some bulk.

Yeah I had an Innocase also mine cracked but I love the Active that I had on my EVO. It was great and felt good in my hands when holding the phone. I love the active and wish they made an Active with a kickstand. I don't really want the innocase surface one with a kickstand.

If you *have* to have a screen protector on the Camera then you'll need to go with Phantom Skinz or get the OtterBox Defender or a TPU/Silicone case that covers the camera pod.

I think the TPU/Silicone option with a Zagg InvisiShield (Non-Smudge Proof) would be a great setup for you.

Just received my most awesome TPU case from ebay! Fits prefectly. Has a cover over the camera button which feels better and most of all makes the on/off button harder to push. Only problem is I ordered black and this seems like a deep dark blue but oh well. It's still a win!

** I like it 100x better than the platinum case from Best Buy. I'll be returning that case this evening

Thanks much EvoMax- the only problem is that one is horizontal (horizonal ones always pop off when I sit down, for some reason). I have some DS/3DS cases and, indeed, it fits great. But nothing with a clip. 8-/

Do you not recommend getting the screen protector for the camera? I just don't want a nasty scratch on my camera that will make the cameras worthless.

And thank you. I think I might go that route.

It's not that I don't recommend it, I think it's a good idea. It's just not a standard option on the majority of the screen protectors. I think probably because it might warp the image when a picture is taken through the protector. If you look carefully at the PhatomSkinz there are two cut out holes for the cameras even on the screen protector for the cameras. Thus making the actually surface of the viewing area of the camera lense still vulnerable to scratches.

In my opinion, I think for total camera protection getting a case that makes the camera recessed is a better solution for protection. Like the TPU Cases, the Otterbox Defender, and even the OtterBox Commuter provides a recessed area for the Camera. So when you lay the phone flat the Cameras are not touching the surface. :o

In saying that, if Zagg offered a Camera protector alone I would buy one. Heck, if PhantomSkinz would sell just the Camera Protector alone I would buy one. I just prefer the Zagg InvisiShield (Non-Smudge Proof) for the Display portion of the device. Personal preference... *YMMV

I've still been meaning to write something on the two types of "screen protectors" but needless to say... you're not going to want to but an InvisibleShield or PhantomSkinz type protector on the camera pod.

These are flexible, vinyl-type screen protectors (you can tell because water is necessary for proper application) -- they have certain advantages, but one major disadvantage is the lack of optical clarity.

In other words, it will degrade the sharpness and visual quality of your photos.

I know, because I used extra InvisibleShield material to cover the camera glass on the Evo 4G and the degradation in optics was significant and unacceptable.

@NeoteriX
I have been told (but I have not seen it in person) that the InvisiShield Smudge-Proof significantly reduces screen clarity. I made sure to grab the regular one and I'm extremely happy with how the Display looks through the protector.

Also, I have been eagerly awaiting your part 2 of 2 write up on that subject. I check the thread every day to see if you updated it. No pressure, just take it as a compliment. Like EarlyMon and Novox on these forums, you have a talent for writing and explaining complex issues. You make it easy to understand. Thanks for that and to the aforementioned moderators as well. =)
