Help 3G connection issue

nizmo6

Newbie
hey everyone, so i recently switched back to my rooted incredible after using a blackberry curve. I decided to unroot my phone but i did it a different way by downloading the Root Manager app and deleting the Superuser app off the phone. After that i cleared all memory, did a factor reset, cleared all cache, reinstalled the kernel to the phone and then cleared cache again. Phone booted up and no signs of root or superuser permissions app. Figured the root was gone and the phone was reset back to the factory settings. So now my problem i am having is the Verizon 3G connection. When i used the phone last and the 4 months before i rooted it i always had the 3G symbol on my phone. Hardly did i ever see the 1X symbol. Now i always get the 1X and never 3G and when i do it disappears as quickly as i notice it. Past day now i hardly even get the 1X and it always says need a network or wifi connection when im tying to access the market or gmail. I dont know what is going on with this phone. Im ready to break it so someone please help me before i make that mistake haha. I need to know if there is a way to delete everything off the phone, i mean wipe it to where a computer has to be connected to the phone for it to opperate. I want to totally remove android off the phone and reinstall it. I think a file is missing from the phone, i used unrevoked to do the root so i dont know all what unrevoke does to the android platform. Please help and please dont tell me to take the phone back to verizon that is a no brainier, plus they couldnt help me anyways.

Thanks everyone for the input

Also when i rooted my phone i used the free barnacle app for hotspot tethering and idk how that works. Mentioning this because idk if that app burned out my CDMA connection.

I'm not really sure what you all did there but its sounds like something got borked in your unroot/reset effort. You might try to update your PRL just in case that's all it is...dial #228, choose option 2.

If that doesn't help, and since you've already tried a factory restore, next step is to start anew by reloading 2.2 altogether. Follow the steps here:

Unless your SD card is already formatted to FAT32 from previous rooting endeavors, you might want to start by trying the RUU option, the file for which is located near the bottom of the 1st post. Download that file to your PC, run the program from the PC and connect your phone to the PC when it prompts you to do so by way of the USB/charge cable. Then just follow the steps. I cannot be of serious assistance with hiccups you may run across using this method as I haven't run it in a long time and have forgotten it's quirks. I am more familiar with the PB31IMG (file on SD card) method also listed in that thread. Good luck.

Thank You for the help! I will try the options listed above. I did try the PB31IMG file where you put it on the root of the SD card everything worked fine for 3 seconds and then the phone went n to a boot loop.

Nothing is happening, i am a little confused about the S-off thing. My phone says S-off so does this mean that my phone is back to normal or not cause the unrevoked forever wants to change the phone to S-off. I tried doing the PB31IMG zip file and the phone in hboot just keeps saying no image or wrong image! so i dont know what the effe is up with this phone. When i go to About phone > Network it says that my Mobile network type is CDMA- EvDo rev.A idk what this means but it doesnt look correct. More assistance would be awesome. Thanks everyone in advanced

S-off requires a separate flash to remove so unless you want to get rid of it, dont worry about that. Also, the roaming type is correct so yore good there. Did you try the RUU method instead, that might go smoother? Anyway, it sounds like the file might not have been renamed properly to PB31IMG. It must be named exactly that and the SD card must be formatted to Fat32 using a PC to format. If either of those two conditions aren't met, it won't work. Also, verify that the download size matches your file size and ideally check the MD5 of the file to guarantee integrity. The link above explains how in the second post.

okay im going to try that one more time. Also i tried to root the phone again and it says some image is missing and failure to reload image on unrevoked 3. So is there no way to completely wipe android off the phone to where i could just reload it back on? Yesterday i was literally next to a cell tower, full cellular connection but still no 3g. Also idk what MD5 means, im only so tech savy. i did format the sd to Fat32 still nothing. Thank u for your help, i at least feel better knowing i have someone helping me out ha.

Ok, if it doesn't work this time, please try the RUU. Again, the link for the download is at the bottom of the first post in the "Downgrade to 2.2" thread. Download it to your PC and then launch it. Hook up phone to USB and follow directions in the RUU program when prompted to do so.

Tried everything again. Did the RUU before, already was installed on my computer. So i guess im out of options. I cant tell if this phone is back to original or not. The phone is authenticated so thats not the issue. There is a pound number (#xxxx) that verizon has but i cant remember but it actually connects you to a real person at verizon. I did that once before the phone was fixed and they reset the phone. With that said, whats my next option?

Well i took the last resort, called Verizon. They reset my connection to my phone for my area. The guy came back and told me that there were a bunch of files patched wrong on my phone, maybe from resetting the phone many times. I leveled with him and told him i rooted my phone and he said yea that will cause it ha. So im eating my words about verizon not being able to help haha. Phone is back in order, so thank you for all your help.
