Help "Press 1 to accept this call"? [Google Voice]

There are tons of advantages, for me anyway, for using GV and they are listed below... but, if you just want to disable the call screening or the text messaging you can go into your GV account from a browser, preferably a PC browser, you can click on the Cog in the upper right hand corner to access the voice settings.

To disable the "1" to answer call screening feature:

I personally think there are several advantages to using GV.
  • I can log into my GV account at work and I don't even need to touch my phone to text, or listen to voicemails.
  • I can archive text messages and not use any of my phones memory,
  • I can set the do not disturb and I won't receive any calls for the amount of time I set it for,
  • I can screen calls by pressing 2 (instead of 1) and then stay on the line and listen them leave the voicemail, and if I want to pick up while they leave the voicemail, I just hit *, this lets me choose to take the calls I want,
  • I can also record calls if I need to just by pushing 4 and stop recording by hitting 4 again.

Of course, some people will like this others don't.

You can do all of this without having to have Google Voice take over the Android phone. I use Google Voice, but I keep a clear line of separation from my Sprint number. I still have these benefits because for most calls I give away my GV #.
 
I did not say you could not disable it, I simply said you cannot delete it at the moment

I agree. I did that as well before the GV + Sprint integration. Personally, I like the integration better. I like having just the one number.
 
When I Press Answer I get a recording Press 1 to answer Press 2 to Ignore I have to bring up the keyboard what a Pain.How do i get rid of this recording??? HTC EVO 3D.
 
For those of you using Google Voice and you would like to customize a personal greeting for a specific contact, I thought I would post this here as I have received a few PM's in reference to this so here is the info, enjoy.


  • To set custom settings for a specific contact:
    1. Click Contacts on the left side of the page.
    2. Search for the contact you want to customize, and select the checkbox next to the name.
    3. Click the Edit Google Voice Settings link.
    4. Under 'When this contact calls you:' select the phones to ring by clicking the Edit link.
    5. Click Save.
  • To record a custom voicemail greeting for a specific contact:
    1. Click Contacts on the left side of the page.
    2. Search for the contact you wish to customize and select the box next to the contact in question.
    3. Click the Edit Google Voice Settings link.
    4. Click the Record New link under the 'When this contact goes to voicemail' section.
    5. Enter the name for the greeting you're going to record.
    6. A Record Greeting box appears. Select the phone you want to call to record the greeting, from the Phone to ring drop-down menu.
    7. Click Connect to ring your selected phone.
    8. Pick up the call and record your voicemail greeting when prompted to do so.
    9. Once you've recorded your voicemail greeting, make sure the voicemail greeting you want to play is selected in the drop-down under 'When this contact goes to voicemail' section for the specific contact.
    10. Click Save.

And this is for Groups if any want wants to know.

For groups


  • There are two ways to adjust your group phone settings:
    • Click the gear icon at the top of the page, click Voice settings, and select the Groups tab. To set what phones should ring for each contact group, click the Edit button each group and view the When people in this group call you section. Click Save if you make any changes.
    • Click Contacts on the left side of the page, and select the group you want to customize on the left side. Click Edit Google Voice Settings, and click the Edit button under the group you wish to customize. In the When people in this group call you section on the page that appears, view the phones that ring when someone from the contact group calls your Google number and edit your settings, if needed. Click Save if you've made changes.
  • To record a custom voicemail greeting for a specific contact group:
    1. Click the gear icon at the top right of any page, and click Voice settings.
    2. Select the Groups tab on the Settings page.
    3. Click the Edit button under the appropriate contact group.
    4. Click the Record New link in the When people in this group go to voicemail section.
    5. Enter the name for the greeting you're going to record and click OK.
    6. A Record Greeting box appears. Select the phone you want to call to record the greeting, from the Phone to ring drop-down menu.
    7. Click Connect.
    8. Pick up the call and record your voicemail greeting when prompted to do so.
    9. Once you've recorded your voicemail greeting, make sure the voicemail greeting you want to play is selected from the Greeting drop-down of the selected contact group.
    10. Click Save.
 
If you want to disable the GV integration here is how.


To disable carrier integration:
If you turned on integration and changed your mind, follow these steps to disable it:

  • Log in to your Google Voice account
  • Click the gear icon in the top-right corner and click Voice Settings

I rooted my phone a few days ago and noticed that when Sprint had to refresh my account I had lost the call forward for no answer transfer to the Google Voice mail, now I want to activate that again and I forgot the *28 number does anyone know it, when I log online it does not show those options anymore, I do not want to integrate my phone with GV.
 
OK researched Hi and Dry and could not find that number anywhere, so I called Sprint and explained to her that I did not want to integrate with sprint and GV, she told me there was another way to do it, use *74 followed by your GV number and it does the same thing. to deactivate hit *740 Hope this helps others not wanting to integrate there service with GV
 
OK from researching more looks like *28 does still work, instead of using a number that was assign,you now use your own GV number, so they both work now, *28 and *74, here is more info below


  1. Busy (*74/*740)

  • Turn on just Conditional Call Forward - Busy
    • Dial *74 plus the 10-digit number you are forwarding your calls to (e.g. *555-555-5555).
    • Press Talk.
    • You should hear tones, then the call will disconnect. Your calls will now forward to the 10- digit number you entered for when your mobile number is busy.
  • Turn off Conditional Call Forward - Busy
    • Dial *740
    • Press Talk
    • You should hear tones, then the call will disconnect. All your calls will begin ringing on your phone again.

  1. No Answer (*73/*730)

  • Turn on just Conditional Call Forward - No Answer
    • Dial *73 plus the 10-digit number you are forwarding your calls to (e.g. *555-555-5555).
    • Press Talk.
    • You should hear tones, then the call will disconnect. Your calls will now forward to the 10-digit number you entered when you do not answer your phone.
  • Turn off conditional Call Forward - No Answer
    • Dial *730.
    • Press Talk.
    • You should hear tones, then the call will disconnect. All your calls will begin ringing on your phone again.

  1. Busy/No Answer (*28/*38)

  • Turn on BOTH Conditional Call Forward - Busy and No Answer
    • Dial *28 plus the 10-digit number you are forwarding your calls to (e.g. *555-555-5555)
    • Press Talk.
    • You should hear tones, then the call will disconnect. Your calls will now forward to the 10-digit number you entered when your mobile number is busy or you do not answer your phone.
  • Turn off Conditional Call Forward - Busy and No Answer
    • Dial *38.
    • Press Talk.
    • You should hear tones, then the call will disconnect. All your calls will begin ringing on your phone again.
 
Found this thread and hope I can get some feedback by posting at the end of it.

Over the last few days, I have been getting phone calls from a cell number that is exactly 1 digit off from mine. I don't pick it up; it goes to voicemail. The message says "to accept the call press 1." I called the number coming through on my caller ID and the guy was clueless as to why his cell number showed up and he claimed he didn't call me.

I do not have and have never had Google Voice.

Is what I describe indicative of this other guy being one digit off in some of his Google Voice settings? Is he forwarding calls from his cell to mine because of some profile setup errors?
