Official Release Date Rumor Thread

First time posting on Attain forum. Wow, I'm surprised by lack of buzz on Attain here compared to Function forum. Are our AT&T fellows really not so interested in their version of SGSII? Many thanks to forddna for creating this thread!

When this one drops to AT&T, it will easily become top smart-phone on AT&T. In contrast, Function will face strong rival in Droid Bionic and there are still many speculations whether it will have LTE or not.

Just checked out Within forum. It's pretty low buzz over there too, but better than here. Somewhere between Attain and Function. At least they are discussing when and with what spec Within will hit Sprint. It's really puzzling to me why Attain is receiving this low attention here. Are all AT&T android folks with Atrix, and not interested in anything better?

I think the AT&T folks went through the speculation gauntlet a year ago when the only AT&T Android offering was the Backflip. Yes, that was only 1 year ago. I'm lurking as my contract is up on my Captivate in mid-July, but I can patiently wait. Hoping to have an Attain and a Thrill to choose from in a battle royal. :)

Well, I've been searching Google and lurking this thread and I too am surprised on the lack of hype for the Attain. I ended up registering today just to join in the discussion. I'm holding out to upgrade for this phone and I'm dying with an old Windows 6.5 phone. I spoke with an AT&T rep the other day and they told me they expect it to come out on July 17th. That would coincide with the leaked pictures so here's to hoping it's true and we can get it this month!

I can't speak for everyone else, but I've been keeping up on anything new that's released on the net.. But there's really not much to talk about until new information or a confirmed date is announced.

Yeah, LG Thrill (Optimus 3D) is another super-phone dropping soon to AT&T. It's kind of similar to Function vs Bionic on Verizon in that it's battle of Exynos vs OMAP4, only difference being LG instead of Motorola with OMAP4.
It will be interesting dogfight between Attain and Thrill.

Im SO sick and tired of waiting for this phone. Its already July 2nd we better hear some news within the next week. Every other country at lease has some kind of release date and US has jack SHIT! This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys. Just signed up to the forums. Does anyone have any idea at some sort of release date. I bought the Infuse 4g a couple of days ago. I was hoping that this phone came out in less than 30 days so i can exchange it for this. I really hope it comes out b4 august 4th!!! :D

Hey, I'm new here, been on XDA for a while now, but I've been waiting about 4 months for this phone to come out. The last big rumor I heard was AT&T is holding off on the device till early September. I was a little ticked off after hearing that, but not 'as' much when I heard why. Supposedly they are going to put a dual 1.4 GHz processor inside, as well as various tweeks to the system(can you say bloatware? Haha). A little bit more evidence for you ( if you read between the lines) is that AT&T is selling all these phones dirt cheep right now. Then, the Thrill 4G will come out, maybe with another mediocre device. It wont stand a chance up against the Attain. They have to sell a decent amount of them, the average person who doesn't know about the Attain will buy the Thrill cause its all snazzy and cool. The average person waiting that can't wait any longer for a new phone will buy it as well. And last, but certainly not least, this phone is meant to combat the IPhone 5, which also has a rumored release date of September(unless you count the most recent rumor of late August)
My appologies if I am horribly wrong, I can only hope I am.
Have a good day :)

Unfortunately i'm thinking you may be kind of right... If you look at AT&Ts website:
Android Smartphones - Motorola, HTC, Samsung - Wireless from AT&T

They are only advertising the LG Thrill 4g as their "coming soon" phone. I don't know about how they released the galaxy S series last year, did the carriers advertise the phones a few weeks before??

I'm wanting this phone so bad but since they are making us wait this long for it it is almost not even worth it anymore.. Might as well wait til the SG3. But then again, I am upgrading from the ORIGINAL iPhone 3G. Yes thats right not even the 3gs... Im in need of an upgrade, especially since i've never owned an android phone its like they are waiving candy over my head. I've been patiently waiting since they announced it in February and my patience is crumbling. Maybe i'll move to canada.

there are already some cell phone service providers saying that they'll release the phone sometime mid-July. For some reason, the big name providers like AT&T (U.S) and Rogers (Canada) still haven't said anything yet.

And who are they? I've kept up with Sprint and Verizon and haven't heard crap other than the same "late july" rumor as AT&T.

Also, I would not be surprised if the delay is related to making Attain 4G capable. The buzz on the Function forum is the same theory..LTE...

I would think the Sprint Within is already scheduled to be 4G.

I can't speak for AT&T and Verizon, but Sprint was definitely pushing Epic weeks in advance. Then a two week long presale before the official release.

There's no way this phone is coming out in 2-3 weeks.

Well I know what I'm going to do now. If the Attain doesn't come out after my 30 days, I'll just sell my Infuse on Gazelle.com and use one of my other family member's upgrades to get it :D I really hope it comes out late July like the other S II phones but I'm starting to lose hope :(

When you talk about 4G on AT&T, please clarify what it is. HSPA+ or LTE? If it's former, SGSII Attain can hit AT&T and rock any time soon technically. This is because AT&T 3GSM/HSPA is globally compatible requiring minimal changes to SGSII if any.
There are some reports that what's holding SGSII back on U.S is pricing negotiation between Sammy and wireless carriers.

Even over at Function forum, buzz is slowly going down as there is no sign of it coming anytime soon yet. All sorts of negative pessimistic speculations are floating around like November release at the earliest, dumbed down spec like Tegra2, or not coming at all due to Apple lawsuit or disagreement on pricing, blah blah, etc. I will stay with my 3G phone a bit longer until any sign of it from any U.S carrier surfaces. It might be closer than we think.

I can't say that I frequent this forum much (some might recognize me from xda from my themed Market and various batteries), but I just had to sign up to say how cool the op is :) Smokin' hot racer chic! Waaaay cooler than a phone any day ;)

I don't have any intel on possible release dates, but I just wanted to vent a little :p I know it's hard to swallow spending $600+ on a phone, but somehow we've got to get out of this subsidized model we have here. It's the whole reason why we don't have this phone. The oem's have to cater to the whims of att/verizon/et. al. because that's the distribution model here. I bought my first phone ever off contract with the Nexus One last spring. It has been by far and away the best user experience ever. The hardware has a lot to do with it, but also it's been so nice not having to deal with att's crap. I had froyo on my phone last May, and have been on gingerbread since early December (albeit w/o a camera until Jan.) I can receive video calls with the new gchat app that's in 2.3.4(just no ffc on the N1).

Samsung and other oem's have half heartedly tried before to get us away from the subsidy model, but the carriers didn't really want to play ball. I haven't read this anywhere, but IMHO that's Samsung's motive behind sending 4 sgs2's to cyanogen here recently. Helps generate more buzz around having a device that's not weighted down with att's extra crud. They basically just gave them 4 phones and said "Let's see what you can do"

I wish it were already here for sure, but my gut's saying it's sometime in August. We will have plenty of notice when it's coming.....there's no way that it's only 2-3 weeks out.

Found an interesting article that gives some hope on maybe 1-2 months from now release.

"Yesterday, a Samsung smartphone that could be the Samsung Galaxy S2 Samsung Attain with HSPA (4G) was being approved by the FCC, suggesting a July or August release data."

Samsung Galaxy S II News: Attain, Within & Function Information Attained from Within U.S. Trademarks Fit to Function Soon? - WIRELESS AND MOBILE NEWS

Last year, the Epic hit FCC around the second or third week of July, and was released August 31.

I can't agree more on this. We really need to get out of subsidized pricing model for phones. But then we are looking at laptop, tablet like prices for phones. Many folks would have hard time paying that much when they got used to paying less than 200 for phone.

I'm in the exact same boat. My previous smartphone was an iPhone 3G, that I purchased about 3 weeks before the iPhone 3GS was released. Not wanting to get into the race a lap behind this time around, I've been waiting to jump on the latest n' greatest.

Now I find myself in this deadlocked game of chicken between major cell phone manufactures and the carriers.

It doesn't make sense to me that Samsung would release the Infuse in May, only to trump it 2 months later with no changes other than a dual core + more memory + upgraded software. AND THEN now I'm also reading information on a potential release of a Galaxy IIS Plus that bumps from 1.2 dual core to a 1.4 dual core....and again, upgraded droid software.

Anyhow....I've seen performance benchmarks between the Infuse and the Galaxy IIS. The numbers are WAY different, but the practicle tests of loading pages and apps side by side wasn't that much different. Still....if I'm going to spend $200 on a phone, it might as well have the latest n' greatest.

Here is to a quick end to all the speculation.......and market canibilization for that matter.
